    Wow!

Whats the cost of duke's base plate, clip and handle?
Can be done for long tour like Ladakh or cross country.

Please post more pics and videos or tell me where can I get to see more about this.

    • Building Hatsumi: RC390: Upgrades, Issues & Fixes

      Hello Everyone,

I am making a post after over a year, my apologies for the delay but this post should make the wait worthwhile.

Hatsumi, my 2015 RC390 is still with me and has been almost only used on the track, the only time it sees city roads is the commute to and from the track.

      Odo Reading: 27441

      Issues:
      - Broken Airbox - Replaced under warranty
      - Clutch burnt out - Replaced
      - ABS Unit Malfunction- Replaced under warranty
      - Broken rear engine mount- Replaced
      - Collapsed Rear Suspension- Replaced twice
      - Failed head gasket- Replaced
      - Stock exhaust split open at the bottom- Welded and repaired
      - Vibration from the fairings caused by worn out rubber mounts- Replaced rubber mounts
      - Gear guide warped- Replaced
      - Gear shaft bent - Replaced
      - Radiator fan failure- Replaced under warranty

Surprisingly the engine has not given up as yet and is still going strong after over 2 years of abuse at the track. other than regular maintenance and a few upgrades not much has been done to the engine.

      Parts Replaced:

      - Front Disc
      - Clutch Basket
      - Chain & Sprocket kit
      - Gear Shaft
      - Rear Rim
      - Kill switch
      - Fuel pump

      Upgrades:

      - Motul Fork 10w Fork oil, this has now been replaced by the stock oil.
      - Bosch Dot 4.0 Brake Fluid
      - Brembo RCS 19 Master Cylinder
      - Stiffer Clutch Springs
      - Stiffer Valve Springs
      - Pirelli Diablo Rosso II tires
      - Brembo Clutch Lever and Yoke from a CBR 600
      - K&N KT-1211 Air Filter
      - Replaced stock fairing bolts with Skunk Bolts
      - EBC HH Sintered Brake Pads(Might replace with the new stock sintered brake pads)
      - MGP Rearsets
      - Custom made quick throttle

      Fixes:
      - Turns out the front suspension always felt soft because they were following the Duke Manual which recommends 450ml versus the 460ml required per fork leg for the RC. Also good to note that the new fork oil bottles come in 480ml bottles so if the technician tries to fill the whole lot, you will end up blowing your seals
      - We shifted from Motul 300v back to Motul 7100 because of the extremely short cycles of oil change because of the constant use at the track
      - Similarly we decided to stick with the Diablo Rosso II purely because they were cheaper than the Metz, we did try the MRF Revz FC and FC-1 but they extemely long heat cycles did not make them very good for the smaller tracks but on larger tracks like Chennai where your tires are able to retain heat, the MRF Revz FC and FC-1 performed brilliantly
      - After multiple rebuilds of the BYBRE Master Cylinder, I finally decided to take the plunge and order myself the Brembo RCS19 which in hindsight was complete overkill, we are still sorting out the braking system but the feel is galaxies apart. We are contemplating removing the ABS system completely since this is a track exclusive bike.
      - I wasn't willing to spend the extra time to convert to the slipper clutch or a hydraulic clutch so instead I ordered a Brembo clutch lever and an aftermarket compatible yoke. This was a good choice as the effort required to pull has reduced by almost half.
      - I must also mention that the stock visor and mirrors needed to be cut slightly to ensure the clearance of the Brembo clutch and brake levers
      - The stock throttle required you to twist your arm in a weird angle when on full throttle which could get extremely uncomfortable especially in longer right handed corner that required you to get on the gas early. We first replaced the throttle with that of the 2017 RC390 since it had a larger diameter but the angle at full throttle was still off, we modified the stock throttle to a larger diameter which fixed the issue. We didn't want to install an after market throttle because we wanted to keep the stock look of the bike.
      - We shifted from Galfer to EBC brake pads purely because they were more economical, they served no performance benefit, we will be shifting to the stock sintered if the testing goes well.
      - The stock footpegs had several issues, they were very slippery when wet, the heel plates were useless and the they scraped even before you could get to maximum lean. Rearsets were the obvious choice but which ones was a question that led to several sleepless nights. After asking several folks we decided to go with the MGP Rearsets over the Driven Rearsets only because of the ready availability of spares.

I am no longer running the Powertronics piggy back and have gone back to the stock map. I may decide on a custom map at a later time but for now it remains stock.

I am not posting any pictures and will make another post for that. Do feel free to ask me for the part numbers or links to buy the parts if you want to upgrade to the same.

      Ride safe folks. ATGATT

Radiator cost was 2700 without fan.
Rest was coolant for around 200 rs and 600 rs for labor and tax

I have changed/upgraded my master cylinder.

Installed the Brembo RCS19 but honestly it is over kill, the RCS15 would have been the better choice, with the RCS19 the braking isn't as progressive as you would want it but it is still miles ahead of the stock master cylinder.

I had changed to Frando's master cylinder, but I lost it in an accident. I don't remember the model number, but if you want to know, I'll share the details.

I had purchased it from webike Japan website. It costed me around Rs22000 (12000 for the MC and 10000 penalty as they sent the parcel from India Post which should have been sent from a private courier service.)
The model number was 7NB-15R and the company name is Frando.

Thanx for that do you have any idea what would be the extra charge if they had sent it via other courier service

I don't know, sorry. But all I know is that they don't send from any private courier service. They send from speed post only. Try getting this from any other website.

I have a few questions. Just wondering, I guess these are generic master cylinders and what's the price of this MC kit in INR. Secondly, do these come with the fluid reservoir or that needs to purchased separately. Thirdly, is it possible for you to source these on a need basis?

                        Cheers!

                        The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

                          Hey VJ,

Brembo doesn't sell the reservoir with the MC kit and it needs to be purchased separately, I picked up all the parts from Hardracing.com and got it shipped to a friend in the US who then brought it back to India.

The Master Cylinder and reservoir set me back about 370dollars but you can get it slightly cheaper now because it is on discount.

Yes most of the parts, except for the rebuild kit are cheap and be sourced quite easily.

I would however suggest the RCS15 instead if you plan on Brembo

                          Ride safe.

Appreciate the heads up, pizzaboi. Just would help everyone get a perspective in case they are planning to upgrade their braking systems. Did you ever consider to get the brembo calipers both front and rear. IIRC, I remember somebody in our forum doing the same.
