Before I sold it, I was using Osram Silverstar 35W. It was better than stock, but not a huge difference.

55W bulbs do not work well.

It ticks all the checks that i need in a bike but when i saw the ground clearance of 150 mm in unicorn 160 i was disappointed, i live in Gurgaon and we have lots of speed breakers in the city.
Has anyone faced issue regarding the ground clearance of unicorn 160 ? please reply
Shouldn't be a problem till you ride with only single pillion,,,,,

If 3 people are sitting you may hear the "thud" sound,,,, again it has an engine guard,,, no need to worry

Hi everyone..I have a Black BS4 version..i am enjoying it..1500K kms done from February 28th.1st service done after 500 kms and again one oil change done after another 600 kms by myself..this time due to the weather as it was around 40 degree so I poured a 10W-40 semi synthetic...now I wish to attach a side box, my choice is Studd's cruiser box..if anyone has any experience please advise..will it look awkward?

                • Tips on maintaining a new bike : Honda Unicorn CB 160 Combi Brake

                  Hi all,

Firstly my thanks for reading this post and whatever help/guidance you may provide..

To the senior members of xBHP my greetings...

I recently purchase (24-Jun-2017) a Honda Unicorn CB 160 Combi Brake (Matte Blue).
I reside in Mumbai and primarily use my bike for the daily commute to workplace (approx: 54 KMS)

I am quite a reasonable rider, and reaching out here to seek your best tips on bike maintenance, with the intent to maximize the life of my bike along-with the pleasure of riding one.

My impression after 300 KM is very good and the bike does have the efficiency that has come to be associated with Unicorn...

                  Please suggest/guide:

                  1. Ideal speed to maintain until 500 KM (heard that I should not cross 50 KM)
                  2. Is there a more comfortable seat cover, that I can buy apart from the stock supplied by Honda?
                  3. What solution to use for cleaning and Polishing the bike, as the color is Matte, I believe specific options only apply?
                  4. I have noticed that the bike responds well at Under torque i.e. Cruises smoothly at 5th gear on 40 KM
                  (is this advisable)
                  5. Any other tips?

My warm regards and Thanks in Advance...

                    Suggestion-
                    1. Shift gears around 3.5K rpm before 1st servicing.
                    2.Visit a roadside seat cover shop..and choose..
3.Any branded car shampoo and a wax for polishing, and Dashboard polish for plastic parts..(I am using Motomax creme polish, and waxpol protectol for the plastic parts..sometimes I even use the protectol on all surface gives a wet look)
4.Always try to use the appropriate gear.
5.After 2nd Engine oil change try to use the Honda throttle..it made my bike more obedient.

Hows the 'Throttle' experience compared to Motul ? I am using Motul 5100 10W30

Hey Alok, Mumbai has quite a few potholes during rain and I have stayed in Gurgaon for 8 months, so I am with you about the speedbreakers, except in case of an odd speed breaker (really humped ones), I can assure Unicorn 160 will rollover...

If you do buy it, Welcome to the club...

                        Take care...

                        ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I need help with two queries:

                        1. Best technique to downshift i.e. from 5th to 4th and then to 3rd..
                        a) Downshift continuously, i.e. keep the clutch pulled/engaged, go to 4th (click) and then to 3rd (click)
                        b) Shift down from 5th to 4, disengage the clutch slightly - then pull completely again and shift ot 3rd...

                        2. I notice a certain hesitation in downshifting, it is a bit hard..what could be the potential cause?

                        Thanks once again guys....

Downshifting would be quite hard with Honda oil (Mineral) Switch to Semi Synthetic / full Synthetic oil would make it smooth.Mine has improved over time and now it's very smooth. There are many posts earlier in this forum regarding oil change , oils etc.,

Actually I was using 10w40 Motul..like many bikers I didn't believed Honda oil..but 1 week back filled a bottle of throttle.. and as I said previously the bike became more obedient, as if now its been tamed properly..but the sound seems little harsh for my taste..may be its psychological cause Motul costs more..and the acceleration i think improved because my speed limit is 55-60, but now frequently i m seeing 70 which is a bad thing for monsoon.

Chain Sprocket gave up just under 12000 Kms . Is it worse ? Or normal ?

Mine had clocked 18000 kms in 2 years and still remains much life in it. I lubricates chain every 500-600 kms.
