• Unicorn 160 problem

Hello. I had purchased my unicorn 160 just last month in october 2016 and i am now at 450 kms. I have some issues like in 2nd gear when i accelerate my bike jerks ahead and when i leave the accelerator it jerks back this happens only in 2nd gear. Why us it so? And also my engine stable speed changed after the first servicing. Why is it so? Am i riding it wrong or is it the bike ? And i feel there is a slack in the chain. Also the engine sound has changed from when it was new to now. It has become more rough sort of. Plzz help.

• Honda unicorn 160 engine oil

Hello, I have Honda unicorn 160. Have been riding it for a year and half. It has clocked 4500 kms.. done with the free services. Now I thought to change engine oil. I have two options 1. Shell AX710w40 2. Motul 3100 10w30
Honda has set viscosity 10w30.. shall I go for shell ax7 10w40?? As it's is semi synthetic. Because she'll 10w30 is a mineral oil. Please do suggest

Hi All,

I am a new member of the club. I have a unicorn 160 which I bought last year (Feb '16) & till now have ridden only appx. 2700 kms. I carefully saw to it that I did not cross 40 kmph for the first 1000-1200 kms. Since then I have been riding at 60-70 & because of the route (highway). I have mostly ridden the bike on 4th & 5th gears.

Now after 2700 kms what I feel is that the bike is not that smooth in 2nd & 3rd gears, as it used to be earlier. Last oil (Honda 10w30 - mineral oil) change was at 1300 kms in March '16 as a part of 3rd free service by Honda. Could it be because of the oil ? Do I need to change it (after 1400 kms of running after oil change) ?

Also what I have observed is that Honda guys do not perform the activities & checks that are mentioned in the manual like:- carburetor cleaning, oil strainer screen (filter) & centrifugal oil filter cleaning, fuel strainer, spark plug cleaning. Till now not a single time these things have been done which is shocking as the first thing that local mechanics do is clean the carburetor. Could it be because of this reason ?

Also should I change the air filter element yet ? Mileage that I am getting is appx. 50-52 kmpl.

All I hear from Honda guys all the time is to do engine flush (which I had done only during 1st service) & fuel line flush (not done even once because I don't trust what they use). Should I get engine flush done once again & fuel line flush once ?

I am planning to buy a unicorn 160 BS4 version real soon. can you people confirm 2 thing for this bike

1/ what is the mileage of this bike in city?
2/ what is its ideal cruising speed?
All My friends has either RE c350 or RE tb350 and we are all grown up family men. so I need a good reliable bike which can cruising at around 80km/h comfortably for around 300 km.

Hai PDEBANSHI..

I am glad to hear that, you are planning to buying a Unicorn 160 instead of RE350s, you are saving a lot of money and you are getting a far better motorcycle indeed.

As far as the performance is concerned, Unicorn160 will offer better performance than RE350s.

No issues, you can easily cruise at 80kmph .
I would also suggest you to get the Hornet as its selling more than the Unicorn160,so in longer use, it will be better.

But where the Unicorn160 excels over the Hornet is by offering better ride quailty.

Enjoy the ride, 👍
Ride safe. ☺

----consecutive posts auto-merged-----

At that price point (around)
I would also suggest you to give a try on Avnger 220 (bigger oil cooled engine, comfy ride), this suggestion is only because your cruising speed is 80kmph, and you want to ride for around 300kms.

first I thought for hornet160 but after researching, found that it has many problem about engine heating issue so....
secondly about avengers, they has a peculiar problem about rear wheel. When break heard in high speed rear wheel wobble and whole bike loose its balance.
generally my wife travels with me and she like plane long seat so that we can move around on it.
I wise Bajaj had launch a Dominar 200
If there has any other bike in your mind that I can look for plz inform me...

Unicorn 160 is a practical bike , considering riding with pillion. It's suspension is quite good when with pillion. I have ridden over a year and I literally had zero issues with the bike . Hornet definitely looks good , but the fat tyres makes low agility in traffic . Unicorn is super flick able in traffic.
I ride in Highways @5000 to 7000 RPM in 5th gear with 75 to 85 kmph depending on type of helmet and winds .
I have do long rides of 200 to 300 km mileage is 45 - 47 kmpl .

Mine engine and gearshifts was rough till 3000 then after changing engine oil to motul , mine is now super smooth and totally vibes free.
The engine is super reliable compared to REs

Honda service all over is flooded with volumes especially in Fridays and Saturdays . If u want to give only in Honda service then try a less crowded one on a weekday . I take my bike to a nearby small village and for the first time I saw service center guys opening wheel for greasing and shocked to see no lubricant in bearings yes the city service centers are pathetic , 10 guys attend 300 vehicles in a day and they have time to do just a water wash and minor jobs . I took 3 to 4 hours to attend lubricate wheels , chain clean and adjustment , spark plug , carburetor clean in front of my eyes . Not at possible in normal service center

PDEBANSHI , i would suggest you to take a testride of Avenger 220, the braking issues and bottoming out has been rectified in the newer models, Bajaj will launch soon the BS4 (sorry if they are already launched).
You should test ride the BS4 models.
When taking test ride should take your wife also, ask her how she feels on the pillion.
I have done long rides 200-300 kms on 125cc scooter Swish(owns , 150cc honda Dazzler( still own)
and RS200(owns),
a 200cc engine makes the journey realy effortless because i has more than enough power for anything, climbing steep hills, and especially with pillion, 150cc bikes will struggle alot in comparison.

And talking about Dominar, it won't be as comfy as an Avenger, the suspension set up is quite stiff on Dominar400 for aggressive riding.

Other option is Pulsar220 itself, take a testride and see it for yourself.

----consecutive posts auto-merged-----

Test ride must be done on a BS4 model.

I own a Hornet. Its suspension is quite stiff and not comfortable for bad roads. Its seat is shorter than that of Unicorn 160/150. But Hornet is a looker than being practical. Quality level of Bajaj bikes is much lower as compared to Honda. You should go for Unicorn 160/150 considering your requirements.

Adjust the drive chain tension. Check the fuel screw position, idle rpm and air filter condition.

After being an Xbhpian i understood that Bajaj bikes are of much lower quailty, is a myth.

The current Honda motorcycles also have their own issues.
Just go through the Hornets thread itself, one can understand it.

Am not a bajaj ,suzuki, honda or a yamaha guy.
I have currently a Honda,Suzuki bajaj and Hero Honda (before hero version)

And sir juts go through Unicorn150 thread, swing arm got broken, because of the rust and personally my friends dad owns one unicorn150, the part where monoshock connects to the swing arm part go rusted and broke.

And quailty?
What quailty are you talking about?

Honda from selling good reliable jap machines have turn into profit makers.

Why I said so?

See the switch gears of Cbr150, and even the latest Hornet?

See the foot pegs of CBR150?

Both this bikes don't even get a Kill switch ?
How ridiculous is that?

And the biggest thing, Honda brought the brake lock feature om scooter with the first generation Honda Activa 102cc .

Now no Honda Scoters offer it, Why? Cost cutting?

One more thing about switch gear is that, you should see the switch gears of HONDA UNICORN DAZZLER, they are big and of good quailty , unlike Hornets, although it doesn't have a kill switch.

See the price of HONDA scooters?
What do they offer? Nothing.

Except for the engine, nothing else, they dont even provide a telescopic forks?

Bajaj has come a long way and it shows..
I realy support Indian engineering, and after going through a lot of search, and asking the users,
I can say that a Pulsar 150 will run as good as Unicorn 150 in longer run.

This is from my perspective view.

Cheers ☺
