Two year anniversary with my unicorn 160. Decided to give her a little make up to match my helmet.. It's a great bike for a sub 200cc segment.

    Cheers,

My bike stalling issue has not been resolved yet. I took it to a local mechanic who said the issue is with a rubber pipe attached to carburetor. He snatched it, cut it smaller and inserted again. It worked for few days and then again started to stall after about 7-8 days. Took it to same mechanic again same solution. He said this will definitely work this time. Again it worked for a week and today again back to square one.
I don't know what is going on. Anyone has any idea then please let me know.

Stalling Issue once happened to me when fuel tank breather hose got jammed / twisted . Stalling use to occur when fuel filled above 50% level of tank .later problem was identified by ASC.

Hi, I am new to this forum and I read each and every msg on this thread before signing up. I was very inspired by your experience with this bike and the number of queries you have answered. But why did you sell this bike so soon, you seem to have had a pretty good opinion of the bike. Which bike have you bought and which thread are you now active in.

Number/Sales-wise, Unicorn 160 is a 'flop', but people do buy Hornet in good numbers - you can see the sales of Hornet in previous months in the same site.

Unicorn 150 sells like hot samosas from Bombay Halwa House, we can see why Honda re-introduced it, it is better to sell 20k units of an outdated model and make profit than lose your share with a model that is not accepted by the masses as much as the 150.

Inspite of the above, I have seen many U160s in my area - hope am not seeing the same riders .

I have seen some videos in the Youtube of water mixing with oil in Hornet's engine - but those riders (mostly college kids to whom Hornet is mainly targeted) revved their bikes under waist deep water for 'fun', how can water not enter the engine? Another mistake is pressure washing the bike with seat removed - again water enters through air filter box via breather tube - these videos too can be seen on Youtube. That being said, even people in places like Colombia are not much happy with the 160 engine.

The initial batch of Hornets did not have much issues, IMHO, it's the latter batches , this might be because a manufacturer will try to localize many components to reduce cost of manufacturing and thats where the trouble might start. But a company like Honda would not damage their reputation by churning out poorly designed and poorly researched products.

I have a wild guess the Unicorn 160 might go the Trigger way, that is, Honda might stop it due to lack of sales, but IMHO, I feel it's a fantastic bike and the best people to endorse it are owners not SVC or local mechanics.

If still in doubt/not satisfied with all of one's investigations, but want only a Honda, one should go for 150, its gold.

              Thanx for the replies, guys.

Is it worth getting the extra 3 years warranty for 700?

I am very doubtful I'll get my bike serviced by official Honda service center (VJ Honda in Ulhasnagar). They are so busy that they don't do the servicing properly. Pretty sure they screw up free services. Hence, I've just lost faith in them. I prefer my local mechanic.

              What's your opinion?

That 160 engine had issues since day 1.
If an engine is submerged, water shouldn’t enter the engine. Engine packing and design should support this. The oil inside engine should provide enough resistance from water entering inside. (From sprocket area or oil filter area)
Water should enter only when air filter box is submerged. That’s the design philosophy of all manufacturers since 1900’s

Water shouldn’t enter through exhaust pips too when submerged. But engine should choke in such a scenario. Valves should close all gaps to engine core.

Getting submerged is different from taking the engine for a swim. Both have drastically different meaning. Saying for those who want to attack my comments.

                    Hey guys,

Does the Unicorn 160 have an oil window I can look at to check the oil adequacy before accepting the delivery?

I can't quite figure it out from the pics.

                    Thanx.

I think Honda’s have the gauge etched on the oil plug. Take out the plug, from where you pour oil. Clean the plug. Put bike on center stand. And measure it.

No. Hondas usually have a dipstick. Some costly Hondas like the CBR250 has an oil level sight glass. Only exception is the Hero Honda Glamour where the 125cc engine (not the engine shared with Shine) didnt have the space for a dipstick.

Personally, I find the oil sight glass easier to live with. Dipstick in no way is a negative though, most of us check oil only once a week while washing the bike.

                        You going for Gixxer, no?

Guys, I have a query. Does the Matte Grey color lose it's "shiny-ness" overtime? I wanted to get the Matte Grey color, but the showroom has only one, which is a little dinged up, so I rejected it. Now, they're saying either I choose another colour or I wait for a month when the next lot arrives on January 25th.

They're also saying if I wait till next month, in the new year, the price might go up by 1000 or 1500.

Just wanna know whether waiting for a month is worth it.

                          Kinda in a dilemma

i have seen many matt color get faded with time, rtr 200 and bullet being the recent ones.
I would suggest to go for the normal variant

Yes, initially that was my thought. Even now, my heart says go with Gixxer, but I'm 35 years old, married, about to have a kid (in a year). I have to sacrifice and get the Unicorn coz of pillion comfort. Another thing is I'll be riding almost 45 to 50 km every day, and Unicorn is said to give 5 kmpl more than Gixxer ( Uni gives around 50+ kmpl), hence that is also one of the points. Another is, Unicorn is no less powerful than the Gixxer. So, all in all, I am checking all the three important checkpoints on my list...

                              Power, mileage, and comfort.

I know I'll be missing out on the beefier front shocks, better monoshock, rear disc brake, gear indicator, peppy engine, etc. But I am gaining little bit more mileage, pillion comfort, better resale value and a little bit more of my wife's happiness

She'll be really happy when she sees the Unicorn coz then she knows she'll be able to properly sit with me at the back and go for a ride. I've also taken a promise from her that she'll learn to ride a bike She rides an Activa now so should be easy

Thanx for the input. Will do that I kinda knew it coz the other day I saw a Matte Grey Uni 160 riding on the road and it really looked faded. It was old. At least 2+ years.
