1. The thud sound from front - Isn't it a possibility that 37mm diam forks are not sufficient for this heavy bike and BAL should have used 41mm like Gixxer?
2.. I'm a tourer and would be using the bike for a lot of touring . The wind shield is smaller as compared to AS200. Will this effect cruising at 115-120km/hr? Which one is better? RS or AS for touring?
    3. Being an FI, there is no kick and bike depends on good condition of battery. What are the chances of battery failing at critical moment? I have seen honda CBR owners cribbing a lot.
    4. Being a tourer, i'm worried about luggage mounting at back seat with a pillion. Has anybody tried mounting luggage with a pillion? or if you can provide ideas as i see there are no points where we can tie luggage.
    5. I believe plastic has more tendency to get scratched. While mounting luggage, how does one intend to prevent scratches? Also keeping bag on tank? one way is to have tank cover, but around pillion seat, on side panels, how can we prevent scratching?

Experienced and novice alike, kindly advise.

    Hi,

After my first service, I rode my bike yesterday in 120KMPH and touched 9K rpm level. Below are the points I noticed :
Burning smell from the engine due to over heat.
    Excellent grunty sound above 70Kmph.
Bike feels light weight above 5K rpm
Don't feel that you are riding above 100kmph as the ride is butter smooth.
Down shifting the gears is really a big challenge

Never tried mounting luggage bag. In fact, I couldn't even find a place to tie my lunch box

    Hi All,

I had my bike serviced 2 days ago. While taking the delivery, the service men advised me to ride the bike slower for 2 days as the ABS doesn't work properly. Is this true ? As a matter of fact, I felt the brakes weren't working effectively. Has anyone felt this ?

I've been following this post since its inception and have read about people saying the booking period of RS esp. yellow one b/w 30-45 days!! But now the delivery time has actually been reduced by Bajaj!! kudos to them !!

Its strange... I'm here in Mumbai (closer to Chakan - Bajaj's manufacturing center than Hyderabad) ... here bajaj is sending the bikes in color batches... till now they have sent only yellow ones and hardly any red colors... I had to change my color since yellow one are available sooner...

I don't think they've improved by any means... I got the delivery time of 45-60 days.. I booked the bike on 20th June.

I know the post is a bit long. But please bear with me, as I cannot miss out to skip any of the events which led me to my first bike.

Owning a sports bike was my dream right from the moment when I first revved a motorcycle. It was, however, far away from the reach of my wallet, and asking Dad to buy me one was a decision I never really wanted to take. Not that he would have refused, but the pride of buying my first bike and reaching out for my own cheque book to pay for it was something I always desired to feel.

        My Dream Started Unwinding...

It all started in mid-2014, when the urge of owning a bike struck me very badly. I started making plans as to how I would manage the finances and what would my budget be. My decent beginners-income as a full-time blogger restricted my wallet in the realms of Pulsar 135 LS. I started looking for a used LS and most of the well-maintained ones were carrying a price-tag of around 30-35K. I discussed the idea with my friends, but most of them suggested I buy a new one. So I held on to my urge for some time.

Then came the news of the new Suzuki Gixxer and I was all crazy about that naked! I just loved its design and the fact that it was a Suzuki was enough to drive me bonkers over it! After many days of browsing pics and reading reviews, I realized that my finances were not as willing as my dreams. So I had to settle once again with the self-assurance of 'ek-do mahine baad khareed lenge' (will buy it after a month or two)
. It was like giving a large dose of chloroform to the bike enthusiast in me. Till this moment, I had never thought of going beyond 150 CCs (as I thought I would not be able to handle anything above that) .

Then came the month of December 2014 and my luck started favouring me. My income started rising steadily and now I could easily get a Gixxer by saving for around 3 months. But now that I had the money factor under control, I increased the displacement and started looking for a 200 CC bike. I set my budget to 1 Lakh and thought of buying the NS 200. But my plans got postponed due to other important family issues and I only got time in Feb 2015 to finally get back on my two-wheeler dream.

I saw the Gixxer SF coming and that was the moment I decided that this was it! This is what I need! The blue MotoGP edition just caught my eye and I started saving up. It was only in May that I had accumulated 1 Lakh Rupees and now I was already to go out and book the Gixxer SF! Finally!

The Moment I Saw the RS200

It was the month of May and I was reading Gixxer SF reviews to make sure that my decision was an intelligent one. I had not booked the bike yet and was planning to do it a week later. Also, I had not considered searching for other bikes, so it was by pure luck that I struck upon the RS. One fine day, I bumped into a bike-news website which displayed the pictures of the Bajaj Pulsar RS200!

Oh my God! What a bike! The first impression of the RS200 in my eyes was that of a futuristic Bumblebee design. Frankly speaking, I found the Yellow machine so sexy that I started reading all that I could about the bike. Everything looked perfect, but I was still a bit sceptical. The reason for this is that I have heard a lot of 'legends' (possibly myths) about the Pulsar engines and Bajaj quality. But I had also heard that after the NS200, the Pulsar engine had become much more refined.

So I had my final thought in solitude, the thought that would be the deciding factor. I compared the Gixxer SF and the RS200.

Me: Wouldn't 150 CC fall short?

Myself: It's your first bike dude..starting from a lower CC will be better..learn from scratch

Me: Isn't the SF too thin? I mean, it looks good but they have just added the fairing and nothing else.

Myself: It's a Suzuki. Best performance plus class-leading quality. What else do you want?

Me: But the Pulsar looks more eye-catchy and has more features..

Myself: There's no use discussing it if your heart has already decided on the RS.

        Me:

So just before 3 days of booking my first bike, I took a leap of faith and decided on the RS200. Heck! My first bike should not be less than 200 CC and it has to give me a big bike feel! Sorry Gixxer SF, the new Pulsar enchanted me completely !

        Booking and the Waiting...

So after I heartlessly abandoned the idea of the SF and revved my thoughts towards the RS, I was confused between the ABS and the NON-ABS model. I'm not saying that the NON-ABS one is better in terms of braking; the ABS one rules that area obviously. But I still had some financial restraints and there's only so much you can do to raise your budget. I had already raised my budget from 1 Lakh to 1.35 Lakhs, plus I also wanted to buy some good riding gear, which would cost at least 10K. So even that extra 12K for the ABS model was feeling heavy on my wallet somehow.

I finally decided on the NON-ABS one, thinking that my next bike would surely be a fully ABS-equipped one and the fact that I was already investing in riding gear was a good combination after all. So I went ahead and booked the NON-ABS Yellow RS200 on 26th May, 2015 from Dahanu (3 hours from Mumbai)
        ,
where my parents live. The reason behind it was that the Dahanu showroom offered a better price and lesser waiting period than the Mumbai guys.

I knew about the 2 months waiting period, but when the showroom manager repeated it once again, it pierced my heart badly.
Though he did mention that I could hope the delivery to be 15 days quicker, I almost went into a paranoia. With some difficulty, I consoled myself somehow that the wait was worth it and time would pass away quickly.

        Meeting xBhp

It was only after booking the bike that I joined xBhp and wow! What a plethora of information. A heaven for bike enthusiasts!
From that date to this, I still keep reading all the new posts avidly, be it travelogues or owner reviews. I joined the RS200 section and started following all of the updates. Every time an RS200 owner posted the pics, I would drool over it and keep staring for hours, sometimes coming back to the page thrice or more times to see it again. Also, every time an owner pointed out an issue in the bike, I just prayed my bike to be free of any such glitch.

I got a call from the Bajaj showroom after 15 days of booking the bike. The manager offered to deliver the bike the next day if I was interested in the Red one, but I politely declined. It had to be the Yellow beast!

I went to the showroom a week later and handed over the cheque to the for the remaining payment. I dated it for 20th June, just as directed by the manager. He actually is the friend of one of my Dad's friends, so no cheating or inconvenience was possible here. Phew

On the 22nd of June, I received an automated message saying that my cheque had been cleared. I called up the manager and he confirmed the same. He said that the bike was here and I could have a look if I wanted, but will not be able to take the delivery as the registration was not yet done. I know it was a good chance to have a peek at my RS, but it would have been painful to leave without it. So I declined saying that I would see it on the delivery day itself.

        Riding Gear

A week before the delivery, I started looking for riding gear on the web. @rachitsharma2000 was very helpful in the matter and suggested me to visit the Moto101 shop in Khar West, Mumbai. Thanks. I went ahead and bought all the important stuff- helmet, gloves, balaclava, jacket. I knew I was going to do a lot of touring. (Will get a knee-guard after rains, when I start touring).

My daily routine involved watching videos and pics and reading ownership reviews of the RS. Time was flowing by terribly slow for me. I was really getting impatient and not for a second was I able to get the RS out of my mind. My days and nights were filled with imaginations of me and my Yellow RS going on rides together. In that one week, I must have tried on the riding gear at least 3 times, fully ready to attack the road. Invited a lot of humorous looks and comments from my family.

        The Delivery

Finally, the wait came to an end when the showroom manager called me up on the 2nd of July saying that my bike would be ready on the 4th of June. Thank God, I did not have to wait for 2 full months!

So I was all excited about the date and I told my Mom and Dad about it.

She went to have a look at the calendar and came back saying:

Mom: You will not take delivery on the 4th. Better take it on the 6th.

        Me: WHY!!!!???

        Mom: It's Saturday.

Me: What! Why? So what if it's a Saturday?

Mom: Tradition (I think she meant superstition
        ).

Anyway, there was no point arguing, as my Mom was like -

So I had to take the delivery on Monday, as Sunday was a holiday for the showroom. Well, I had waited 5 Weeks, so 2 more days did not cause me a lot of pain, though they still made my nights sleepless. I somehow passed those 2 super-long days.

I was only able to sleep at 4 AM on Sunday night, the night before the D-Day. I woke up fresh at 9 AM and was more than eager to rush to the showroom. Called the manager and he said that I could come by 11 AM.

So I put on sparkling smart clothes (as if I was meeting my girlfriend after a long time), and drove off with my Dad in our car to the showroom, with my brand new helmet in my arms tightly. Reached the showroom sharp on the given time and finished all the formalities.

        Finally, the manager said -

Manager: Just five more minutes (in addition to the 40 days that you have painfully waited). Your bike is getting ready.

I probably misheard it as - "Your Bride is getting ready!"
(Which was the scenario anyway )

I could feel my pulse rising in excitement and I was all getting nervous. I had to control myself, so as to not appear as a complete lunatic. And after a few minutes, my shining new RS 'Bride' 200 was rolled out.

GOSH! My new Yellow buddy. My beast. My baby. My...okay I just can't stop coochie-cooing about it. In my humble opinion, the bike looks polarizing in pictures, but in flesh, it's totally awesome and menacing. Without taking my eyes off her (yes, from 'it' to 'her', she has earned my love and respect), I went ahead and started the PDI check. It looked more like a make-out session, as I was touching her slowly and gently, with my fingers trembling in excitement. I realized a minute later that my Bike-Sutra was looking awkward to the showroom guys
        .

        Moment of Pride

Anyway, after performing the checks and making sure 'She' was in a perfectly mint condition, I looked at the manager and nodded in approval. He promptly handed over the keys.

Now was the chance to make my Dad feel proud. I held out the keys towards him.

        Dad: What?

Me: Aap le chalo ghar tak. (You ride her home).

The sparkle in his eyes was the thing that I was waiting for. A proud moment for me and my Dad.
I could see the sense of pride in his eyes for me. His son had grown up. Even though I hadn't bought it for him, I wanted him to be the first one riding the bike. Because if it wasn't for him, I would not have been able to stand up in life and live on my own. It was all because of him. I owe everything to him.

So I told him to start riding and I followed him in the car. Heads were turning on the road to have a look at my Bumblebee.
I could not stop smiling, both for my bike and my dad. We passed a Red RS and I caught the rider eyeing my Yellow Bride and comparing the colour with his bike.

We went to the temple first and performed the rituals. I drew a tikka on the windshield and felt like the marriage was complete.
Then went home to Mom and she too was very happy seeing the smile on our faces.

My First Ride With My Yellow Bride!

Now was the time to take control of my RS. I put on my helmet and gloves and brought her to life with a soft touch on the starter. She woke up immediately in respect. The engine sounded so melodious to me; it totally enchanted me and was no less than A.R Rahman's music at that moment. I switched to the first gear and revved!!

        Whoa!
What a feeling. The bike looks heavy, but is totally stable and never did I feel like I would lose control of her. The big bike feel made me feel extremely awesome behind the helmet on the saddle! I couldn't push the bike hard due to the run-in period, but even that 60km/hr ride below 4.5 RPM was enough to make me fall in love permanently with my RS.

I rode merrily for 20 minutes along the vacant roads with green fields on both the sides, a view every rider will cherish, especially someone like me who is riding his first bike, and that too a RS200! I returned home and parked her safely in my garage beside my car. And since then, it has been two days and I never miss a chance to pop into the garage and admire my new partner. It's the start of a new love story.

Dude... Congrats for your beautiful girlfriend... she is just awesome...

It's similar story here my friend ... except that it won't be my first bike and its little swapped...

My heart is still all the way with Gixxer SF and I still feel that its the best looking motorcycle in the country today (for affordable bikes)

I was in big confusion over which bike to choose... RS or SF... so much so that I've booked both bikes as the waiting period for both of them is 60 days... will cancel one of them once i decide...

I owned Karizma before... so looking for more power in my next bike... Hence i was sceptical for Gixxer SF.. and RS has almost everything that I want... it's a tourer... powerful... ABS and good looking too... But then only thing came in my mind is Bajaj... Harsh n vibey engines, below par build quality etc...

As of now I've decided for RS just for overall package and I feed it would be good upgrade over Karizma rather than downgrade (gixxer sf)

So it would good to hear from you that you are happy with your RS as hopefully I will get the same experience...

Can you help me with the engine smoothness and vibrations... is it too much or manageable...? I love touring and it shouldn't uncomfortable for long rides...

But my heart is still with Gixxer SF... had it had more power... even 17 ps (equal to older karizma)... there would not have been any confusion...

        Ride safe!

          Hi Guys this is Jason,

I have a question and i hope you guys would help me with this. I clocked 410kms on my RS and 1st service is due between 500 - 750 kms or 30 - 45 days whichever is earlier. I recently purchased a bajaj dtsi 1000 oil 20w50 thinking that would ask my local mechanic to do an oil change since i would not get time to take it to the workshop anytime soon. Was planning to due the actual 1st service between 700 and 750 kms and do an oil change right now thru my local mechanic. The only concern is the oil bottle reads 1.15L as quantity so does that mean its 1 litre and 150ml. The user manual states we need to replace oil with 1200ml and during engine overhaul its 1400ml. So should i do this thru my local mechanic and use the 1.15 L oil bottle or should i service it at the service center as soon as i clock 500kms. Please help guys

Fairing gaps are normal on faired bikes. Even CBRs have fairing gaps. You can ask the mechs to remove the fairing and fit again properly. If the gap is still there. This is how they are built. No need to worry on that.

Now the scratch on the exhaust you will have to live with it. You can do some stickering job or paint that surface with a can of silver paint and hide the scratch be careful though if you use the spray in a uneven manner then you might screw up the looks further. If that silver part on the exhaust is available as a spare, you can purchase and replace it.

My opinion would be to get a small stickering job done.

              Cheers,
              Sanjay

                Hi Jason,

Since it new. I would not fiddle with it. Its better to go to the service center. It will hardly take an hour to change the oil and the oil filter.

You can do it outside as well, but better to go with the svc. And do not use less oil, use the amount of oil prescribed by the manufacturer.

My question is why that bajaj vegetable oil, there are other oil which are far ahead in quality. Get in touch with other RS owners on which oil they are using against bajaj 20w50.

                Cherrs,

I too had a Karizma before RS200 and believe me, you will not be able to live with the lower power of SF. As they say, there is no replacement for displacement!
No doubt that build quality and engine smoothness is superior for SF but the engine is just 150cc. That was the deal breaker for me!

Engine is not as smooth as a CBR but still it goes better with time. Regarding vibrations, I face them only between a band of 4.5-5 k RPM. Beyond 5k RPM, the engine becomes very smooth and there are no vibrations. It is a charm while touring and if touring is your objective, I would strongly suggest to go for RS200 rather than Gixxer SF. For city rides, Gixxer SF might be a better package given the cost.

Also i noticed if you change gears quickly while reving up like going to 4th gear progressively and reaching speeds like 40-50 the sudden noise starts coming in the back like a plastic is stuck in the back tire. Its directly related to you revving and changing the gear quickly . On a postive note the front brakes have become so good after first service ,they are nothing like how the bike was first. They respond smoothly and progressively instead of the sudden bite it had before. Also i got a phone call from sai service saying they "may" have given me the wrong bike number and i need to come to their sai andheri showroom and correct it out. How do i check what my vehicle number is (which document has it ?) In my main documents i could find chasy number and engine number nothing else was clearly visible(i have yet to go through it completely). The bajaj guys are really inefficient man ,one thing after another keeps poping up. I also noticed another thing when i release my clutch when i start my bike i need to just rev it to little above 2k rpms for it to start without stalling ,but on the go or in traffic i need to do it to 3k sometimes 3.5k to prevent stalling(on a straight road with marginal or no incline). I dont think there is any fix for the thud sound ,other than to increase the height a few mm and see if it reduces/stops if any1 does find a fix to the problems to do let me know(vibration,thud,coarse/grindy noise)
Regarding the feeling of engine grinding, this will go away as you munch more and more KMs. The engine is still corse. By the time you are done with the run-in, engine will become much smoother.

Regarding gear change query, is you chain properly lubricated? Check if the chain is running dry as it happens during monsoon season. I lube my chain every week/2 weeks during monsoons.

The "wrong" registration thing happened with me too... 3 weeks after the first service I got a call from the service workshop that I gave missed the first servicing. I said "no way" and gave them the details of my first service, even the name of the mechanic who did it. They checked again and reconfirmed the registration number. When I gave my reg number, they said they have a different registration number with them against my name! These guys

BTW, have you received the RC book yet?

No doubt that build quality and engine smoothness is superior for SF but the engine is just 150cc. That was the deal breaker for me!

Engine is not as smooth as a CBR but still it goes better with time. Regarding vibrations, I face them only between a band of 4.5-5 k RPM. Beyond 5k RPM, the engine becomes very smooth and there are no vibrations.

This is how they are made, a wee bit of gap will be available on every faired bikes. You can use a double side tape and try to reduce the gap. But nothing can be done you have to live with it. And I guess upon microscopic inspection the gap is visible or else it won't be.

These small small inperfections are always there, dont spoil your mood for that. Enjoy riding.

                      Cheers,

                        Hi,

Gap between the fairing and the petrol tank is normal in RS200. Some bikes will have the gap on the right side and some will have it on the left. I have it on the left side. but the right side is accurately fit. Not sure as to how to remove the scratches.Sorry.

                          Ride safe!
Thanks buddy! Yes, I too believe that below 1 lakh, SF is the best looking bike in the country and no other company is offering a fully-faired bike in that price.

However, I am of the same opinion too that it lacks in displacement. Come on! Touring on a 150CC? It's not like 150 CCs are not capable for touring, but it would feel out of breath quickly. Whereas RS200 is a perfect sports tourer in my opinion under 1.5 lakhs.

About the Bajaj quality, I too was a bit nervous at first, but all my doubts have been resolved as this is the smoothest Bajaj engine till date. Very smooth. My Bride feels cheerful and peppy, eager to rev always. It isn't harsh, but you might find it a bit unrefined till the first service. I say so because I have clocked more than 250 KMs and changed the oil and oil filter just today, and I'm already feeling the smoothness increasing, as the engine does not show any signs of harshness and gears have become smoother. This brings me to say that as you complete all your three free services, you will find the engine buttery smooth. Don't worry man, Bajaj has a come a long way and the new engine is a lot more refined and smoother.

Regarding the vibrations, 4.5K to 5K RPM is the space for vibrations. It is only in this 0.5K band that I will a bit of vibrations at the footpegs and the tank. But these vibes are very minor and go away after 5K RPM, so nothing to worry about.

I would strongly recommend you to go for the RS200, as the SF will beg for more power in case you plan to do a good deal of touring. The RS is more powerful, more stable (thanks to the added weight), comes with more features, and, no I'm not selling the bike for Bajaj, but RS200 is the winner in the comparison.

Two tires feel better than four. Period.

Any information regarding their availability will be greatly helpful.

                                Hi,
As far as I have experienced it doesn't !

However, After the first service my bike started to heat up for no reason. I took it to the same service center where I got it serviced for the first time and per the service men, it was because the chain was tight. He said the engine was taking heavy pressure due to the same and he corrected it by loosening tightness of the chain.
Now, the bike doesn't heat up much.
