Today again took it to office. Random questions thrown from Public as usual - Is it legal to drive this bike, what mileage, what price..etc etc etc..Was given a Thumbs-up from a Z800 guy who just finished his registration and was heading back to the showroom.

best part - Police was smiling at me and I waved back at them

Temperature soared upto 106, stopped for few minutes and got it back under 98 and remained the same, Going to get a riding pant this week, My thighs are cooking.

      Odo Reading - 110 kms

PS: Does the first gear always make that thud sound when shifted from neutral or am I hallucinating.

Yes most of the big bikes have that characteristic....as the chain is at slack and once the first gear is engaged it adds upto the tension of the chain which stretches and makes that thud sound(Big bikes have thicker drive train). Also do check for chain slackness if the thud is a lot.

Anyway guys have a few more queries.....Does the stock exhaust get excruciatingly hot from outside, as in are there possibilities of it burning the saddle bags if i strap them during touring? And also are there possibilities of the rear seat getting hot say after a 100kms ride? Coz i plan to tour with a pillion.

PS: Id be getting metal frames at the rear cowl so the saddle bags dont touch the exhausts but still though of asking.

Buying a bike these days is easy (Soo many EMI facilities, good competitive interest rates and a fairly good salary for someone working for about 3-4 years in the corporate) but the part prior to it (Convincing parents) is the one that requires some financial planning and convincing power:-)
Just see that you have got your finances in place...Prioritize the things and then im sure you would be able to convince them and they will understand:-)
Dude I dont think having the saddle bags is an issue as the stock exhaust doesnt heat at all, there is a guy names Mario who is travelling from Indonesia to Italy on the 600i with his girlfriend, with the saddle bags mounted on the bike. A few journalists including xBhp has done an interview with him, you can check it out. Ride safe bro!!

Hey Bro, congrats on the ride. the temperature going up is no worry. A piece of advice since its a big engine, if you keep the bike running at a signal the engine heat will mount up as there is not additional supply of air to cool the radiator, which it usually gets when riding. Best thing is to cut of the engine whenever you are on a signal or stalling somewhere for a long time. As the radiator mechanism is designed to basically cool the hot engine oil in a better manner.

Yes the first gear makes that thud sound, its normal in all superbikes, nothing to worry about.

Thanks Bro and thanks again for the info. One worry to keep switching off and on the engine is the time it takes for the Fi to cut and engine available to start. That takes about 5 secons. So, yeah I am having to look out for the vehicle movement whilst struck in traffic and keep doing that. Little painful, but have to do that

yeah..checked that with the service guys..they said no problemo unless it gives a weird noise. So, I hope nothing to worry about.
Planning to take it for a short spin...may be till Chengalpattu to see the vehicle stability on long roads...It should cope up fine. Just that I want to see it myself and have a nice breakfast as well.

IMO it's better to let the engine idle for a few seconds (30 to 60) before cutting her off. Flowing coolant liquid will help cool her better. If you are switching her off straightaway it does not get the chance. I have noticed temperature rise if you switch the engine off immediately and temperature fall off significantly if I idle her for a few seconds.

Here we go ! The Archer is flying
Btw, did you get the radiator guards ? Else, in no time, you will start to see bent fins all over. At least you are lucky to have better roads than here at Bangalore !!!
The 'thud' is completely fine. Do keep an eye on the chain slackness, as per manual, every 1000 kms or so.

Also, regarding heat, please do check your manual for safe operating temperature for the machine. For the Z800, 115 degrees is warning and 120 danger and highest I have seen is 104 at Salem in the afternoon a couple of weeks back.
You should not be reaching those numbers and be fine to keep riding provided 'tandoori thighs' are not ready to be served
