Guys i am facing a issue from past few days , i don't know if its a issue or not. Whenever i pull the choke lever the bike just goes kaput and refuses to start unless its retracted back. The service guys said its fine but i think something is fishy. Can somebody help me with this.

        1. Why are you pulling the choke lever?
        2. When are you pulling the choke lever?
        3. Do you know what the choke lever does?

Guys, I have done 24k kilometres on my Gixxer SF and the rear tyre has cracks which are beginning to show up. Has anyone tried the Michelin 140/70 tyres?? Or is it better to stick with the stock mrf 140/60? Please advise. Thanks.

            1. Winter has almost arrived and the bike refuses to start in the morning. It almost 4 to 5 kicks to crank the engine without choke.

2.I am pulling the choke when i cold start the bike in morning.

3.I don't know much but from my previous bike experience, a choke is valve when opened it intakes more air and the extra air draws extra petrol for better combustion to cold start Tye engine.

Complained the SVC about the issue and they pulled the choke and completely opened the throttle and replied see the choke is fine.

After this i shot a mail to Suzuki stating this issue and another issue (of timing chain tensioner) that is bothering me since my 2nd service done about 3 months ago. But then i thought is the choke suppose to be like this, thats why i raised the query

P.s Sorry for my bad English

I have been riding on the gixxer sf for past 2 years and 24k kilometres. I have been to ooty and kodaikanal, i have never had this issue of choke, infact i have never used the choke till now. Hence, i guess there is something wrong. Better take it to a good local mechanic or shot out another mail to suzuki.

I want you to do a small troubleshoot and see if it helps.

Dont kick. Use the electric start. When you do the first start, give a slight throttle along with it, I would say 1/8th or 1/12th of a turn depending on your free play. Let it then warm up. Ride it as you normally do and when you reach your destination before you turn off the engine, check your idle RPM. Set it properly according to the manual. Dont listen to anyone else. If this does not work, then you might need to get a Carb overhaul done at teh SVC.

Choke valve restricts the air flow so theres more fuel going in. The mixture becomes rich. This does help with Cold starts but its not required with this bike. (Also extra air does not draw extra petrol. Thats not how a venturi tube works. Restricting air inflow creates vacuum which sucks in more fuel)

How did you come to the conclusion that you're having an issue with the CAM chain tensioner?

Also if you had your 2nd service 3 months ago, arent you due for your 4th service?

I can't use electric start in the morning my battery is down and needs to be replaced but it can't be replaced in warranty as am using bigger horns and led headlight.

I did my 3rd servicing yesterday and it was really annoying.

As for the cam chain tensioner there was a slight "chik chik" sound coming while decelerating the guy at SVC during my second service messed with the tensioner the sound was gone but engine became rough, may be they over tightened it. Recently i rode a naked bs4 gixxer and found the bike to be lot smoother. Yesterday i complained them about them about the harshness of the engine and they again messed up the tensioner. The bike is much smoother now but after running few kilometers the "chic chic" sounds appear. I have no clue whats wrong and neither the service guys, thats why in utter frustration i shot a mail to Suzuki regarding the issue.

Can you please check, if your bike starts with the choke pulled on. Usually the rpm should increase to about 2.5k when the choke is pulled. But its quite opposite in my case i cranked the bike revved it pretty hard and then pulled the choke to see if rpm increases but instead the bike shuts down.

                      Yes you can Install it.

The owner manual says one among MRF/ceat. Regarding michelin I don't know about 140/70 but in general they making amazing tyres which are soft compound.they provide excellent road grip but life is very less compared to MRF

                          • Re: Suzuki Gixxer SF : Ownership thread

As tyre talks are trending recently, here goes anotheer tyre query for any future replacement, even though my tyres are still golden . I like the feel of the stock ones (specially the overall flickability and the grip). I don't want to mess with the sizes by going for other makes (The Pirelli Diablo Rosso II having same sizes is another story). The manual lists the following as the stock

                            Front : 100/80-17M/C 52P
                            Rear : 140/60R17M/C 63P

However as per https://www.mrftyres.com/products/tyres if one selects Gixxer/Gixxer SF we get the following

                            Front : 100/80 R17 TL or 100/80-17 TL

                            Rear : 140/60 R17 TL

Now I understand the difference between the (M/C) being "Specified for Motorcycle use" as specified in the manual and the (TL) being "Tubeless Type" as specified in the MRF website being mere terminological differences. But the stock front tyre as specified in the manual misses the 'R' unlike the rear. Isn't the stock front tyre radial then? However, MRF is providing both the R and without R front options in the website. If the stock front tyre isn't radial, does replacing it with a radial provide any added advantage? I also see the 52P / 63P values being missing in the website product info too. What are these? I hope we do get as-is tyre replacement from MRF as Suzuki provided for Gixxer

P.S : a) Can anyone list the approx prices of the stock MRF tyres along with the Pirelli Diablo Russo II of same sizes and possibly the rims too?

                            b) Differences between Stock MRFs and Pirelli Diablo Rosa II
