If the brake pads are not worn out to the limit, then the squeaky noise is usually due to dust/sand/dirt between pads and disc. Washing the disc with mild detergent + water and rinsing well with water (using a garden hose) will solve it. If the pads are worn, replace them otherwise they will eat the disc.

It's the drum version, not the disc one. I was planning on getting the disc version, but got a very good deal on the drum one.

Contamination (rust of drum+brake shoe material) of the lining, nothing else. Needs to be dismantled, lining cleaned and pads de-glazed if necessary.

        • Suzuki Gixxer SF : Service centre in Mumbai

          Hello Mumbaikars...
I own a Gixxer sf since October 2015 and now its almost three years. Till date, I couldn't find a proper service centre.
          A. Initially there was a problem with hard gear shift, but the people at the service centre (Kiran Suzuki, Goregaon) refused to accept so and hence, I had to write to Suzuki and they then asked the service centre people to check it out. And on my suggestion, they opened the gear box and changed the gear shaft, which had a slight defect. Even then, the hard shift is still present but way better. Now I am also using Motul 7100 10w40. Good engine oil.

          B. Since this episode, I basically don't trust any service centres but because I don't know any other mechanic, I am forced to service my bike with the SVC's. Last time I serviced a month back and they didn't even check the tyre pressure.

Can anyone suggest me a mechanic or a good service centre, for regular servicing and maintenance activity for my 'chuchuki'.

          Thanks in advance.

            • Re: Suzuki Gixxer SF : Ownership thread

Just wanted to update the forum regarding my problem of vehicle pulling I mentioned in #4360 and earlier posts.

Every time i took the bike out to ride i noticed this vehicle pulling and it was very frustrating. So i decided to take the bike to a chassis expert mechanic. He took a ride and said that he thinks there is some misalignment to the front wheel when looking from the riders position. He said only way to be sure is to check the front fork assembly on the Lathe machine. I asked him how much it would cost but he told me to take this to the service center because if he touched it the warranty would go away and the service center can replace the whole bike if necessary. I was not too keen on going to service center as my experience with them was not good. But he said he has a friend at the service center and take the bike to him.

So I took the bike the service center and they took the test ride but they again said there is no pulling then i told them to observe the front wheels when the vehicle is on main stand. The tilt on the front wheel was clearly visible. Then they checked other Gixxer bikes and they did not have such issue. Then the service technician and I rode to the chassis mechanic expert and they chatted a while. Then we rode back to the service center and they agreed to check the front fork assembly on the Lathe machine. They said Suzuki Engineer would arrive next week and the changes would be done under his supervision for which I agreed.

My second service was also due and I gave the bike for servicing. The service center then removed the front forks along with T plate assembly. The Suzuki Engineer, Service Technician, Service manager and I rode to a Lathe machine workshop which does all types of motorcycle chassis repairs. The expert at the chassis workshop who was quite aged took the front fork pipes and checked them on a machine for any bend. Both the pipes were fine. Then they slid the T plate assembly on the front forks. It was sliding smoothly in both usual and reverse positions. He placed the forks on the Lathe machine and there was no wobble in the assembly. So they all concluded that there is no issue with the front fork assembly.

Later we went to the service center and they put the parts back together. Once done they took the test ride and said everything was now ok. I then took a long ride and I could definitely feel that there is no vehicle pulling. I rode long stretches with my hands off the handle bar (on empty roads!) and the bike would track perfectly in straight line every time. I was happy with the bike but then I could not understand what was the problem with the bike. Later on with discussions they concluded that it could have been a front fork fitting/alignment issue or something with the bearings. I thanked them and rode off happily with the bike. This problem was continuously troubling me and finally I think the bike is good. At home I parked the bike on main stand and observed the front wheel, it still looks tilted but it is better than before! So it could be something else because the chassis has no problems now. Whatever issues now are just visual/cosmetic. Weird but and I can live with it

All the costs related to materials like fork oil, bearings and labour charges at service center and Late machine workshop were taken care of Suzuki Service center. They always denied the problem since day one and said they would do these checks just for my satisfaction. But would they go this far if they thought there was no issue at all? All in all I think the Suzuki Service centers are used to only Access scooters and they are clueless when it comes to service for premium motorcycle like Gixxer. So if there is any problem you need to fight and persist with them to get things done otherwise they coolly deny the issue and get on with there chores!

I'll be taking my bike for servicing tomorrow at an authorized SVC. I don't know when the previous owner has serviced it, and what parts he has replaced and all. Since I got the bike from a dealer, he too wouldn't know.

So my query is, what will they change/clean during servicing? Do I ask them to change a specific part or anything? Also, how much will it cost?

Without knowing the mileage of the bike, it's indeed a difficult job to predict what needs to be replaced. Secondly, only a user knows how his/her bike behaves which gives cue as to what part needs to be replaced or if it's time for a general check up and service. Usually when "servicing", primarily all they do is check the oil level, how slacked the chain is, how the clutch lever play is and little things and then service the bike after an oil replacement has been carried out, this the basic procedure most follow.

Now, if you're sure a part is defective or is worn and needs to be replaced, you can mention them during your service period and the checks will be carried out and parts replaced.

                      Cheers!

                      The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

The owners manual will state everything important in the scheduled service table.

Came back from the servicing, and this is how much I was charged. I had to change the rear fender since the old one had a crack.

They also asked me to change the sprocket. They didn't have it in stock, they said it would be available next week. They are charging 1.6k for that.

                          So, are these prices right?

The only thing not necessary here is the 3M oil additive, of course if they asked your permission then it is a different story. Go ahead and change the chain sprocket kit if it is worn out. Owners can tell you cost + labor.

How many Kms have you done on the bike so far?

I never told them to add the additive,I only asked them to change the rear fender. Don't know why they added the chain lubricants and all.
