I checked with the Suzuki SVC where I take my Gixxer SF and they said that it is possible to upgrade the read brake to disc brake for existing bikes, however the cost will be around Rs10000!!!!

They said factory manufactured new bikes are cheaper due to being mass produced, whereas if you change the pasrts on your bike a lot of things will have to be changed.

And they said it will come next month.

SF yes, its an amazing bike but I urge you to wait since there was a sighting of a Gixxer with Rear disc brakes. So wait for that option to hit the market. Also if and when you get the Bike make sure you remember to install Frame Sliders. (off topic: Try considering the R15-S)

And about the waiting period dont try to rush it. Chances are if they are readily agreeing to drop the waiting period it means they are giving you a field tested bike not factory new. It may even be a Test ride bike that they may force you into buying. So be careful about that.
Yep... I forgot to mention I am selling the Pulsar.

Yea I checked out that news feed too. That makes my decision much more difficult. Also would I get frame sliders as part of accessories from the SVC.

Well I called the SVC up and they were ready to give me the bike in 20 days. I could probably have some patience on the waiting part.

Even though R-15S is a great option I wouldn't be able to stretch my budget.

Last time I asked in 2 showrooms about Frame sliders, they said they dint know what those were. Fortunately I went around in teh SVC area and some workers knew what it was and confirmed that it doesnt come as accessories. What is your budget at the max?

Well I have already stretched my budget for the SF from 85k to almost 100k. So 100k +- 4k if the rear disc option comes around would be max

Budget doesn't matter if it was good and useful

Jenson dj- I would recommend that you get the SF in MotoGP edition only. Trust me that the bike looks biggest in that colour and a bit too sleek in the black colour even though its otherwise a great color. Rest depends upon your taste as looks are highly subjective.

You can add Suzuki livery from outside shops but they may not look as cool as that on Metallic Triton Blue color.

I have driven Gixxer and its vibration free with good performance.

10k is way too much.. Suzuki should have thought about this .. May be I will test ride the bike with disc brake once it comes .. We can bother if it really makes a difference .. How much difference does a drum n disc make really for the rear wheel?

1 negative point of rear disc that one of my friends faced was when his tyre was punctured and the local tyre shop did not know how to remove the tyre and put it back.
This happened about 2 years back. So I suppose most tyre shops might be well versed by now to deal with rear disc on tyre.
Anybody else faced any similar issue recently?

Significant difference, imagine 70% of the front disc brake performance in the read brake.

FYI right now I measure the rear brake performance as 20% of front brake, so in any case a 250% improvement over current(Mathematically :P)

Even I will test ride before thinking about it,

Right now under hard braking the rear tyre always locks.

Not an issue anymore, atleast not in metros.

                                Best way to check mileage,
                                1. Fill tank up to brim
                                2. Check ODO and note it down.
                                3. Ride till it reaches reserve (which many say 2 liters but hasn't be listed on suzuki website)
                                4. Check the odo and Fill it up to brim again and note the volume of fuel filled.
                                5. Divide distance covered by amount of fuel filled and thats as accurate as you an get.
