    You may want to:
    1. empty fuel-tank
    2. remove that tank-cap using hex/allen keys
    3. cover the tank mouth with several wide cello tape in criss-cross pattern (to prevent dust from entering tank)
    3. clean both cap and tank mouth area clearly; perhaps use fine emery.
    4. paint it properly (black enamel, paint thinner), apply double coat.
    5. let it dry and refit tank cap after cleaning it too.

Yes, it's air-vent that aligns with vent in tank-cap.

Took the bike to a local mechanic and emptied the fuel tank and cleansed the tank.
Should I take it to a local mechanic for painting also or to Suzuki SVC.
Asking or complaining about the painting of the tank or replacing the tank as a goodwill gesture as suggested by ashwanth.r

If you're getting it done, then guys/mech who rebuild old motorcycles are best bet. Any other mechanic might/will mess up that tank-mouth work.

          Hi Guys,

Can someone please guide me to where i can do the coil rewinding to convert to full DC on our GS150r? Im from Chennai.

Also, i bought the bike on Sept 2014 and have faced poor lighting issue...(recently had a fall as i couldn't see a huuuge pothole in the rains!). Since a week, my Horn is also not working properly...could this be because of battery?

i've clocked 23700+ currently.. should i wait till 30K to get the rewinding done? kindly help!

I did the rewinding myself at home. It's fairly easy once you get a hang of it for the first 20-30 turns. But it takes a lot of patience. It took me close to 3 hours to wind it by hand.
I think some bike mechanics who do electrical jobs on bikes can help you. Or there are shops who specialise in coil winding. Electric water pump or table fan repair guys might tell you where they get coils done from

Thanks to @ashwanth.r for the find. I replaced the air filter today after ~25k km. Having some time to spare and curiosity I opened the old filter up. But I didn't find no sign of any paper. It looked like cotton fiber. Not sure if it could have served few more KMs. I just thought 25k was much more than OEM recommended.

Also notice the tubular structure inside the filter. Had it not been there filter life could have been better. The lighter grey clearly indicates lesser dirt on the part covered by this tube. But it must be there by design. Probably to better support the filter from collapsing.

Internet says "paper air filter" is a misnomer. You are right, its actually similar to cotton - manual says "non-woven fabric element". Vacuum cleaner at home will be of little use since compressed air (I take it to a puncture shop for spraying compressed air on mesh side every 2000-3000 kms) itself cannot clear the "pores" and the difficulty in cleaning is also partly due to the design.

Gixxer's filter is "paper" too but this design - similar to Hondas and FZs is easier to clean at home using a vacuum cleaner.

Am thinking of shifting to Apache's Oil-Foam combo but right now a little busy with shifting my house. Also, most TVS SVCs only have the foam and not the mesh housing - so will hunt leisurely later.

This site below says foam is better than other types of filters but I think they sell foam filters mainly, and hence promoting the same.

                        Hello Sparkot, fellow GSpians,

I was browsing through xbhp in order to find information regarding the alternator unit on GS and I found your answer regarding the capabilities of the unit on GS:

                        1. Will the alternator be able to provide sufficient power to the 55/60 bulb? (without rewinding the coil or upgrading the RR unit)

~Stock RR should be able to produce at least 100W of power @5000 RPM.~
Does this mean we can use 55w bulbs on our Gs?

Thanks for informing about the battery, i was thinking ours was non MF battery, i had no occassion to see it personally.

I would like to connect my pilot lamps to battery in order to save some watts for the head light, but I do not know how to do it. Do you know the cable colors / numbers that are involved?

                        Thanks in advance for sharing!

                          Hi,

Yesterday one moron stole the tripmeter button (which is the rubber one) when i parked it outside. When i checked with Suzuki for spare parts, they said it is not available as a seperate one and i have to buy it as the total unit which would cost 4.5 k.

Could you suggest any other way i could get it

                            Hello G-Sapien

Hope all you are enjoying your ride. I am not an active member of this blog nowadays but this forum helped me a lot in initial days to make a decision of purchasing this bike and how to make most of it in and out.

I have been riding this from last 20 months clocking nearly 23000 km. I would say one of best motorcycle anyone will ever ride. I specially chose GS150R coz I liked its characteristics on Highways. Its built quality, maintain erect postures-support your spine, pillion comfort, no vibes at all at the speed of >>100 kmph, and many more…!!

Today I just roughly went through xbhp forum and thought I should comment on what you guys actually discussing above.

6 months ago, I replaced my stock headlight with LED and also installed Pilot fog light on leg guard. I also replaced stock yellow color stock pilot bulbs with new blue ranger color LEDs.

Initially I didn’t think of replacing LED headlight due fear of battery drainage however after certain research and electrical circuit examination of GS150R with help of my friend who is an electrician, I conclude that replacing LED is lot more better option than any (unlike converting AC to DC). I think converting AC into DC light is time consuming and expensive.

LED fog light on leg-guard are add on and provide much visibility on highways. You could do the setting in such way that light focus will project on 1-2 meter with high intensity (here it act as a dipper). Moreover you can use them while commuting within city and no need of main headlight (energy saver).

Main light + Fog Light covers maximum area on highway and riding is much pleasurable. I personally notice that people presume it’s a car/big vehicle and provide you sufficient passage for overtake.

About battery consumption I did not notice any major difference although I use both light many times for longer duration (3-4 hours). It’s just you need to recharge/top up battery during servicing.

                            Overall expenses as below:

                            1) Mail LED Headlight : 900 Rs. (Manufacturer name as in pic but no price mentioned on it)
                            2) 2 Fog lights: 400*2= 800 Rs.
                            3) Clamps + Clips for fitting + Cables: 50 Rs.
                            4) Projector Bulbs: 70*2 = 140 Rs
                            5) Labor + Installation Charges: 400 Rs.
                            Total Cost: 2300 Rs approx.
Below are few pics I have attached for your reference.

Thank you for your thorough response! Only a few questions remain concerning the information there:

                              * Now, I understand, you are running 35W HEADLAMP + FOG LIGHTS + PILOT BULBS on battery?
                              * If so, could you please mention where the energy was drawn from? Is there a switch that was added to control the fog lights?
