Do you mean Suzuki India Customer-Care or some SVC in Bengaluru?

    r.

Don't throw that front(gs150r) at corners, esp if tarmac is in poor condition.

I remember reading about rubber mounting set-up for the silencer/muffler, which was the cause of this vibration. I think it was rsk_kelkar who did it.
I called the Suzuki India Customer care only, they said the model is discontinued. But then, when i mailed Suzuki India customer care id , i got a reply from 9star, saying the model is not discontinued. My bike is a July manfuactured bike which i got in August this year

Yes it is a hard lesson learnt . But is it because of the MRF tyres? I think the brakes of Unicorn was much better with much better bite. Will upgrading to better tyre will help? probably a ceat?

Yes, i have read about it. Will try it. But few people in the forum have said the vibration gets reduced, if we ride more kms say 10k or 20 k. Is that true?

      That's really interesting.

Tyre upgrade totally depends on the terrain.

It may reduce over the years but won't die down completely.

Dear Freak and fellow XBHP GS150r riders,

I truly appreciate your inputs throughout my past 3 or 4 months of GS ownership. I would like to report a successful (and inexpensive) fix to the following issues on my GS:

        * Missing at 7500 - 8000 RPMs and subsequent lack of power at higher speeds - SOLVED.
        * Annoying backfiring - GREATLY REDUCED.
        * Overheating after long distance riding - SEEMS TO BE GONE

Last weekend, after thinking about it for a while, I decided to see my local (non-Suzuki) mechanic for some help solving the problem(s) my bike was facing. His solution was recalibrating the carb for a richer mix on top of the RPM range and changing the plug to Iridium.

The motorcycle now keeps a steady pace from 90 to 110 Km/Hr (sometimes passing the occasional 150 or 180cc bike without any problems) in fast traffic without downshifting. Now downshifting to 5th gear is only necessary below 75, if I need to pull strongly in traffic. Top speed is around 125 Km/Hr and so far fuel consumption is about 40 Km/L, which is not great, but cool considering I do a lot of my riding in heavy traffic and usually keep the revs around 7k-8k.

The engine feels so smooth that I sometimes have to remind myself of the lack of ABS on our bike when cruising between 70 and 100 Km/Hr and the little black monster wants to keep pushing. An additional immediate benefit was that RPMs now stay pretty steady between shifts, and the front end of the GS feels more planted as a result. 6000 RPM shifts are now just pleasurable.

Mechanic said, however, that there is a [natural, his words] tappet noise coming from the engine when it is hot (perceptible without any instruments) but nothing to worry about. He said basically all Suzukis are like that. I will probably have the valves and tappets checked at 10K Kms.

Something I found surprising was that he used NGK CR9HIX instead of 7. I checked and the thread does not go any further than CR7HSA, which the mechanic at Suzuki refused to replace.

Total fix was 250 MXN or 660 rupees.

Attached to this message is happy GS with a couple of girls from work.

Thanks again, guys... have a great weekend!

        Gilberto

You meant passing other 150cc or 180cc motorcycles not 150/180 km/hr speed, right

Hello, Freak. Yes, I meant other 150cc or 180cc bikes. But I mean, I have gone basically side by side with other bigger (200cc - 400cc) bikes going UPHILL recently and the only chance they get to pass me is when the road gets steeper or the traffic clears. GS is a pretty good performer and most people here think it is a 250cc motorcycle. It is a shame they are killing GS here after selling it for less than 3 years. The result of their marketing strategy, if any, is very few GS150r's on the road. I have seen less than 10 in the whole Valle de Mexico (Mexico City and the surrounding state) over the past 2 years. But I guess that is life.

I did not know your country looked like this part of Mexico! The place is called Cuautitlan and is about 25 Km away from Mexico City.

            Cheers...

              Just a question.
Of late, the executive kind of bikes like Unicorn, GS 150 R, CBZ are not selling well, and sports bikes like Gixxer, FZ , Pulsar AS are dominating the sales charts. Does it mean that the middle aged people who use bikes are very less in the market and it is flooded with college goers/less than 25 aged people?

I guess many middle aged persons are moving towards scooter. Sales number of scooters can tell you that.

Thats true. But the fun you will get in a bike is not matched with a scooter. Does it mean middle aged bike enthusiasts are lesser or bike enthusiasts who get middle aged lose their enthusiasm in bikes. Whatever it may be this trend has lead to the demise of icons like Unicorn 150 and our own GS.

                    Hello!
Personally I think a lot of people looking for a "wow!" factor OR as they say "pose factor" are inclined towards the naked styled motorbikes. I can't comment on the age group split, but it's safe to say that a lot of people get their first ever motorbike between this 18-24 age group and are but obviously looking for a sporty head turner rather than a mature commuter look. Hence, the sales of the gixxers and fzs reflect the same. I don't think it can be generalised to a particular age group though cuz a lot of people also upgrade from existing 100cc to 150cc or 150cc to 200 or higher cc with time and it is very unlikely that these people are below 25 yrs of age...

One year ago on 18th December I got my "Gorgeous Ghost" and in the last one year I have realised how much of a motorcycling enthusiast I am...Ofcourse, having a sturdy, trouble free, quality bike which suits your needs adds to the pleasure.

I would like to add a small information. I always thought the the "Poll" about "which gs150r gives best mileage?" was not accurate, especially with people getting 70+ average from a 150cc motorbike not matter how 'slow' they ride (as per the poll). However, I was wrong.

I commute (on an average) around 25 kms total everyday on Palm Beach Road, Vashi, Navi Mumbai. I have been in the city for around 2.5 months now and I have been getting 65-70 Kmpl mileage quite easily while solo riding, with normal petrol from "Vashi fuel center" (Near Gao Devi Mandir, Vashi) and checking tyre air pressure once every week. Before Mumbai, the average mileage over the last 1 year has been 52-54 Kmpl. I mostly maintain 4k-5.5k rpm and have also used this bike for day trips around Mumbai since I have come here. Really really pleased with this kind of efficiency.

I think it's the best commuter/tourer in the 150cc segment. Existing owners, congrats to you all for the smart decision and future owners - what are you waiting for? :P

One year on, 8821 pleasurable kms clocked, soooooo many occasions of being asked "which bike?" at traffic signal and parking lots, one saddlesore down and hopeful of so many more to go. I am glad to be a proud owner of this lovely machine.

                      Safe riding guys!

                          Hello Roamer, GSpians at xbhp...

Thank you Roamer for the great pic of your ghost! It would be so nice if more people here would share their pic and/or their experience riding this great machine. The Christmas season here (Mexico City area) has stopped me from really riding my GS, but I will be back in the saddle in January, having only ridden my night fury every few days before early January.

A little something I meant to share with you, guys, is that I was going through some GS ownership numbers recently, and I realized riding this bike, compared to riding my 2000 1.6L Sentra to work (about 300 Km per week), will cover the entire purchase money of the bike in about 13 months. Certain facts that account for this include the great fuel efficiency and the nearly maintenance free nature of our GS. And I am not a spiritless rider...

Of course, for some people things should be different, depending on how often they ride their bike, and the number of mods/major fixes they do per year, but I just thought I would share that with you guys.

Anyway, I am not even mentioning the great satisfaction that riding a 'more mature bike' gives to a 38 year old guy like me. I really like what you riders in India call 'executive bikes' (hope that's the term) My GS looks classier and bigger than most small displacement bikes out there and that feels pretty good.

Here is a GS video from Suzuki Colombia that may put a smile on your face! A basic English translation appears on Youtube as a comment.

Hello there! You may send me a private message here or drop me a line at (mail) for some tips. But right now I can tell you our GS comes lean from factory and needs some extra gas at higher revs. Other than that, I have tested the performance with an iridium plug and the fix worked OK. Talk to you later!
