4. Forks should have been replaced
5. Why was it necessary to replace muffler?
6. Are you getting all the replaced parts to take home?
All I want to know is the Suzuki nuts and bolts are of cheap quality to be replaced often,Are the labor charges normal..can I fight for this two things and succeed..??

1.Yes I agree.
2.Mine is Zero Dep From Bajaj .Claim covers as follows "Consumables -Nil ,Metal - 90%,Plastic - Full, labour = 50% as the surveyor thinks the charges are pretty high.."
3.Not present at the time of repair replace. kept the bike for 50 days,(must be loving my bike)
4.They told fork can be repaired..
5.Body muffler = silencer (crushed: from round to oval) so replacing it.
6.Will take home those parts ,few are missing.

Am very happy that you are still a-l-i-v-e and writing here.

To answer your previous query, yes, it is necessary/advisable to replace most nuts/bolts/fasteners/cotter pins/washers as new rather than trying to salvage old ones which might be slightly bent or damaged.

They are usually replaced in these circumstances.

Suzuki's nuts and bolts are of very superior quality AFAIK but they are usually over-tightened and get damaged the next time we try to use a 12-point socket.

In fact, Honda plays a miser by giving 2 nuts (one is for locking the other) for each chain adjuster. It also uses a Castle-type nut and cotter pin combo for torque link nut. Same is true for Yamaha. Suzuki is one step ahead by providing a self-locking nut for these places. Our axle/swingarm nut is also a self-locking one.

Yes, the labor seems to be a little high but don't quote me on that. Have no idea why they replaced throttle, choke and clutch cables !

Once again, good to see you a-l-i-v-e. Drive safe.

Yes I ALIVE Thank you ..

Changing Damaged nuts and bolts is necessary. But changing each and every nuts and bolts, cables is unnecessary merely for profit and sales thing i think..

Labour quotes and frame bent removal charges are pretty high..

What is hourly repair charge for gs150r?? And curious to know what bend did the remove for 2350rs?

Small update, and a question:

my gs150r (the gorgeous ghost) is 10 months old, completed 7550 kms on odo, has only been in service center for planned servicing, no problems and decent mileage of 53-54 km/litre with mostly decent and relaxed riding.

Recently I did a saddlesore1000, road trip from bangalore to Navi Mumbai via Pune. Start to end distance was 1151 kms. bangalore to Pune = 14.5 hrs, slept at Pune for 7 hrs and then Pune to Mumbai another 2.5 hrs. Very nice roads, so, I was doing almost 80km/hr throughout, but let's say range was 70-90 km/hr, maximum speed 116 km/hr (for maximum 5-10 mins at a time, then reduce to 100ish, and then increase again if I feel like later on). Based on my calculations, fuel efficiency during this trip was between 42-44 km/litre.

After reaching Mumbai, I have got chain lubrication done from GC Suzuki. Got the bike serviced just 2 days before leaving from bangalore, so, the oil is new (ie now it is 1200 kms old).

This was the update, now the question: I don't know if it's real or psychological, but I feel bike is running slightly heavy (air pressure ok) and I feel hot air around engine area at traffic signal despite running only 4-8 kms. Should I get the engine oil changed? Right now it's the basic mineral oil as recommended by Suzuki. Also, why is the bike feeling heavy? Choke is off, idle rpm 1200 in warm condition and norm running is okay.

please advise.

thanks
Dear friend,

I have been battling with about the same thing with my GS, but in my case altitude here in Mexico City (about 2,300 m above sea level) has been playing a major role. I have been getting higher quality riding by always checking chain adjustment and lubrication. I went through the whole transmission set recently, cleaning, adjusting and lubbing everything I could. You could also check your spark plug; mine was becoming a bit too brown after 3,000 km, but it is going to be changed with the 2nd. service within 3 days, so there's no poing in just changing the plug. I believe your oil can go safely between 2,000 and 3,000 km (perhaps more) depending on the type. Synthetic, I understand, should give you at least 2,500 km without any problems. Some people change the oil after 2,000 km, though. Talking about tyre pressure, I get good results with 30 psi instead of the recommended 25 to 28. Your idle rpm seems fine as well. Anyway, have you checked your throttle cable is properly adjusted? The feel of the bike will definitely be better if you get the right adjustment. Other than that, I can only think of the filter being a bit dirty after such a long trip.
Greetings from Mexico!

Hi,

i have switched to shell ultra 10w40 FS today..

it costs around 702 which i bought in amazon.

this is the first time i have switched to shell FS ..the engine and gear shifts seems to be smoother than before..

previously used Suzuki oil ..

is it OK to change to FS and how many kms can i run with FS..is it necessary to change oil filter every time ...i changed oil filter now...

also i hear tuk tuk sound from chain when i move the vehicle from first gear..it gradually decreases with speed increase..but again appear when bike slows down.

should i change the sprocket now.. also the battery start doesn't work some times..

kms run: 19045kms

26months old..

kindly reply guys.

Sure, you can use FS if you can easily afford it.
No, you can change once every two engine-oil changes. But if you're into FS, why not change during every oil change. may be 40/- to 50/- more bucks.

Depends on status of front and rear sprocket teeth combined with chain wear. You need to share photos of front sprocket and rear-axle-bolt area for chain-wear marker.

Stop by nearest battery shop/showroom to check the battery health checked. On average you get 4 yrs service out of stock battery.

Totally depends on how you ride.

3000 km : total throttle frenzy, average RPM is above 5k
4000 km : sedated riding, avg RPM below 5k
5000 km : disabled riding, avg RPM below 4k & not crossing 5k RPM

we can go on speculating, like health of internal moving parts play a major role too, like worn out piston rings; weather conditions etc.

Like you said, gear shifting has become smoother. When you sense it becoming harder, it should be a sign.

Mine's too after 3 years and 17000 kms. I won't blame it as my driving is a crazy 5 kms/week to 300 kms/week ! Yesterday, when I put the ignition to ON, even the neutral LED was dim !

But can we try charging it before replacing .. In your case, its just ~2 years old.

Am planning to go for a MF-type next time.

Hello guys,
This my first post in GS150R thread. I watch this thread regularly it is really very awesome and helps really regarding every aspects to bikers. So coming to the point . I have a Suzuki GS150R 2011 model clocked 39,350 KMs. Actually I got an issue my bike was serviced only twice in Suzuki service centers in 2011, its 150 kms away from my place so I was not able to get it serviced their just used local person from oil change , battery check , air filter cleaning., chain and brakeslubrication, That's all. My air filter was changed once on13k kms whole chain set was change on 20.7k km . Disc brake pads were replaced at the same time as well the read drum pads also,Valve clearance was also done once at the time of 2nd service on my demand. But now I'm facing issue with unwanted engine noise when it's hot, I noticed pick have really got worse and mieage has been dropped a little giving 40-45 before was 53-55 kmpl. The strange thing is when my engine is cold it's runs very smooth but when it gets got it starts acting really harsh. I could notice unwanted kind of sound from left side of the engine whn it is hot. I ' m going to get it serviced inSuzuki service centers in couple of days. I just wanted to ask what things I should demand to service engineer for my bike checkup. And their is a noise coming from rear drum brakes always. Also I have to apply front disc brake harder for making it in process. Please help me guys.. Also it has clocked this much kms please tell me all the necessary checkup and the adjustments for getting my beast in its original state...

Ignore it if braking is fine. If you clean it now, there is always a chance for dust to get it and start making noise.

bleed the the braking liquid, DOT 3 or 4 (DOT-4 is preffered).

blackmonster, my replies in blue color.

I have a Suzuki GS150R 2011 model clocked 39,350 KMs.

39k, Fantastic.

Freak inExile has already given a list - I will try to add/emphasize a few other things.

Actually I got an issue my bike was serviced only twice in Suzuki service centers in 2011, its 150 kms away from my place so I was not able to get it serviced their just used local person from oil change , battery check , air filter cleaning., chain and brakeslubrication, That's all.

It is perfectly okay to get it serviced at a local garage. Any sane mechanic with common sense and experience of handling similar bikes will do the job. So your mechanic buys the spares ? Just make sure they are Suzuki Genuine Parts (SGP).

My air filter was changed once on13k kms whole chain set was change on 20.7k km .

Replace air filter no matter what the argument from your mechanic/SVC is - ideally, in 36,000 kms, the vehicle should have seen 2 changes. It is a known fact that most of us are able to extract only 19000-20000 kms on DID/SGP chain-sprocket set. Weekly lubrication, gentle right hand and regular adjusting at least every 2000 kms might give it more life. So, check chain set again.

Disc brake pads were replaced at the same time as well the read drum pads also.

Check disc pads again since for your pattern of usage they last 20k kms. Replace brake fluid with DOT4. Check fuel/brake hoses and replace if necessary - Suzuki recommends to replace these every 4 years (usually no one replaces but just inspect yourself if they have cracks or leaks). Rear brake shoes usually last more than 20k kms - check if the pads are glazed, if so, rub them lightly with emery paper and refit.

Valve clearance was also done once at the time of 2nd service on my demand. Check valve clearance again. If they are to be adjusted, make sure your mechanic/SVC uses a feeler gauge. I feel the drop in mileage could be also due to clogged air filter as you changed it only (?) at 13k kms and second one has done duty for more than 24000 kms !! The engine, silencer and crash guard mounting bolts have to be re-torqued.

And their is a noise coming from rear drum brakes always. Also I have to apply front disc brake harder for making it in process. Please help me guys.. Also it has clocked this much kms please tell me all the necessary checkup and the adjustments for getting my beast in its original state...

Change fork oil and if necessary, repack grease in steering cone set. Drum brakes make noise (similar to old buses/trains coming to a stop) when the lining is contaminated with rust (bike/brake not used regularly or water has entered due to rain) or brake shoe dust (normal). Clean lining and de-glaze pads. Replace pads if worn.

Replace spark plug.

Replace oil and oil filter. I hope your SVC doesn't miss the small o-ring in oil filter compartment like mine did. If I were you, I would clean oil strainer too.

Adjust clutch free play - inspect for damages to the cable at both lever and engine ends (the finer metal wires that make the cable start to come off) and replace if necessary.

Expect: "Not required saar !" as reply to most of what we said by the person filling the job card. If no, expect a slightly hefty bill.
