Thanks to gs150r_gilbert, I was browsing the Suzuki's Mexico site.

download GS150R's parts catalog, will be useful for us.

Some of the beautiful color combinations of GS150R sold there, I personally liked the yellow-black wasp !

          Hello friends:

I have a GS which is 22k kms run and 14 months old.
Last time service centre guys told me that sprocket is weak.

          1. Shall I go ahead and replace it ? What is the normal life of sprocket ? What is the cost ?
          2. They recommended to change the brake shoe as well.
          3. When shud I change the tyres ? Though I have good grip marks on the tyre I feel some grip is missing. What is the normal life of a OEM tyre ?

          Please confirm guys. Thanks.

I think it helps being a skeptic to understand things better.

On average 22k kms is good life. But there are people who get above 30k kms out of it.
Cost can vary between brands, like Diamond, DID & Rolon. Can range between 800/- 1100/- depending on where you buy it.
Chain set = Chain, front & rear sprocket.
Share photos of front & rear sprocket teeth. Also a photo of chain-slack adjustment assembly.

On my Dio, I'm using worn out brake shoes for 4,000 kms and the grip is best as ever. Of course I've a spare set of shoes at home & I understand the limitations.

Normal life of Stock tyres depends on the length of each journey and the road conditions, also your riding style. Share photos of front & rear tyres with clearly visible tread-wear markers.

The spark plug wire or cap need not be changed..The NGK plugs are far superior to any other make of Plug from my experience, and that of many who use it.
If the vehicle had been parked and old Petrol more than 20 days is used there is a chance that the Petrol would have deteriorated and formed Varnish like sticky coating inside Petrol Tank, petrol lines, and Carburetor....get all of this cleaned first..

Without knowing the Pilot(idle) jet and Main jet size, the problem is difficult to solve and get a proper solution..
So would request Mr.Gilbert to find out the jet sizes and share here for a possible help....
I guess the GS150R running at sea level has 118 main jet and 35 pilot jet.

Hello again Freak and friends at xbhp.com!

I appreciate your help and concern. Here is what I have learned about the bike and this particular issue over the past 10 days:

              * The cable and spark plug cap should be ok, but I will still consider upgrading them because I may be also upgrading to G-power spark plugs within a couple of months (I have found an importer near my area who can get them!). The dealer refused to make comments about testing the spark plug set at their shop.

              * Thanks a lot for your idea on warming up the bike, Freak! I think it helped the overall first feel of the bike every morning.

              * Elevation (around 2300 m above sea level in my city), I have learned, plays an important role in the way the bike uses fuel and air, but I will wait another 500-1000 km before making any changes to the carb, as suggested by the dealer --they hope the issue will go away as the bike gets fully broken in (2900 km on the odo right now). Spark plug is not that white anymore, but it looks good, mostly brownish everywhere--no carbon deposits whatsoever.

              * I may ask the mechanic to check the fuel lines--carb has been carefully cleaned already--but as far as I know, the gas tank is clean as the previous owner would use the motorcycle a few times pretty much every week.

              * What I know is, the bike is exactly the same as the one sold elsewhere in Latin America and India, and I am sure it would shine at a lower altitude. Note: I think the sportier colors and decals look great, but the personality of the bike itself is not exactly akin to such looks.

I just hope with time (and/or the right mods) the bike will reach the desired 110 kph cruising speed I need for a couple of stretches within my route. Right now I can take the bike at around 95-100 kph without any hiccups, but this motorcycle really begs to be ridden faster, it just feels rock steady. Anyway, I just need 110 kph to feel safer in the fast traffic of the Metropolitan Area.

              * I am planning to get a Fiero air filter (I believe the closest here is the filter from EN-125) to have the ability to periodically wash it and probably improve my bike's breathing. (Any inputs on this, anyone?)

I hope I will be able to report a successful fix as I continue to learn more about this awesome machine.

Thanks again everyone, have a great weekend!

Dear Mr.Gilbert, Thanks for the updates. The present color of Spark plug being slightly brownish, indicates a balanced AFR. Hope it continues to become better and you have a great time with your GS150R.

Have you recently removed your Petrol tank for any purpose and forgot to fix the sensor wire back in Place ?

Contrary to common belief, paper-type air-filters are little or no less efficient than foam-type filters.

However, if Fiero/EN-125 filter is easily available to you at cheaper prices than that of stock gs150r's filter then go for it. I assume they're direct fit, at least Fiero's foam-type filter.

Somebody tried it before over here:

It is a direct fit. Thanks to Suzuki. Tried a test drive and there is a good push in the acceleration. Can give a complete review only after a long drive. Attached pictures would tell the story. Total Expense. Fiero Air Filter Assembly - Rs 600. Time for the Mod - 15 Mins

I have not changed my Air Filter since I purchased the bike(41000 Kms completed). I remove the air filter and blow air using vacuum-cleaner once a while and it is good as new.

Airfilter used for Fiero will attract more dust if used in GS. In air filter provided with GS, the side open will be facing almost opposite to the wind direction thus eliminating maximum dust.

If something like Fiero's is fitted, the filter will get clogged often.

I think you should change your Air Filter since it had already done 41K Kms of duty and likely to have clogged pores.....The normal Life expectancy is 20K Kms in clean surrounding and 12K Kms in dusty city conditions.

A paper Air Filter is any day superior to all other types of Filters ...

How do you evaluate the health/condition of Air-Filter? 41k kms is definitely overboard.

At working RPMs 150cc, engines suck no less than 3-4 liters of air through Air-Filter per second. Engine will be a suction pump at say @6000 RPM. I agree gs150r's stock filter will be superior to fiero's, but it has little to do with shape/orientation of air-filter inlet port; but more with paper vs foam design.

I am also surprised that 41K is way too much for stock air filter. I have changed Unicorns Airfilter thrice in 40K kms.

When I apply(blow) Air using a vaccum forcefully from the outside of the filter(inside of the filter when fitted), I get dust particles coming out of the hole.

I hit the filter a few times to hard surface and repeat the air blowing process and get more dirt. I am stupid

However i have changed the Spark Plug thrice and change engine oil every 1800-2000 Kms.

Because of the mileage the bike gives (56KMPL) in Chennai riding conditions, I believe everything seems right with the bike.

As per fellow x-bhpians advice, its time to visit SMK to get the air filter..
