As BlackPanther said, one has to tap the airfilter and apply vacuum/positive air pressure for cleaning it.

• One should either apply vacuum to the filter inlet (the one that is exposed to the road side and is covered by a cup) or apply compressed air to mesh (metal) side.
• Blowing air to filter inlet or applying vacuum to mesh side with result in a clogged filter.
• @BlackPanther, When you remove the 41k filter, tell us the condition of the paper element - usually this will get torn or become "brittle/develop cracks".

• Got a TVS-Girling DOT4 fluid - this is the only one many auto shops have in my area - ok to go ahead? Got a spare bleeder nut too.
• Frankly, am a bit afraid to do the brake bleeding - the same feeling I got before changing the oil for the first time!
• ABS plastic front mudguard chips off after I hit a Karizma's silencer at 5 kmph. Not going to replace as it costs 2000 INR. Either going to leave it as such or going to attach it using super glue.
• Fairing screws were free from the SVC when I got some usual parts !

• Now SVC supplies oil filters that are of the Elofic make. Of course, these are SGP. Previous ones were from Purolator.
• Oil filter cartoon says "factory tested", how??
• Non-SGP oil filter small o-ring seems to be a decent fit.
• The end of the filter opposite to the oil inlet can be depressed (spring action) - seems to be an inbuilt bypass valve mechanism.

• Reason why the fairing screw was logged in as "replaced" in the previous note. Lesson learnt.
• Yes, @13236, rear tyre was punctured.
• Battery is back to normal again as I have started using my GS more. Present ODO is at 16350.

Mine is a Feb-09 GS150R (first batch): ~5 yrs, 54K Kms. Mileage usually is in 50-55 kmpl range with upshifts @ 4500rpm.

No major expense till now (which is good!). Just regular oil changes, air filter and spark plug replacements; clutch cable and brakes shoes -- twice. I had my fork oil replaced 2.5K kms back and I'm feeling that the front forks are very stiff. My arms can feel all kinds of undulations (potholes, speedbreakers) through the handle bar, and as a result, I'm getting slight shoulder and neck pains these days. What could be the problem? Am I imagining this? Or, has the GS' front suspension been designed to be stiff unlike other commuter bikes which have soft setups. I got used to slowing down to 2/1st gear on imperfect roads.

Another problem I noticed recently is: I can take my key off even in the 'ON' position. Can this be fixed?
Six and a half years. 67,000 kms on the Odometer.

I gave my bike for servicing last week, and the bill came out to be 5033/- which included rear right suspension replacement and steering stem replacement apart from others. This is my highest till now.

I've been getting 50-55kmpl consistently in city traffic which is very good. I changed both the tires at 65,000 kms to MRF (Zapper FS + MoGrip Meteor). It costed 4500 rupees.

Ignore.

Some GS (and many bikes) make those tik tik sounds (metals in CatCon contracting/cooling down after a hard ride), others don't. Mine did not make those sounds from day 1. Its normal, not mandatory. I have seen a lot of bikes that do not make these sounds as well.

I don't know any such method. I learn't that absence of the CatCon ticking sound cannot be considered abnormal. In fact, some manufacturers write in the manual "Sometimes a metallic sound .... " Only sometimes, some vehicles only perhaps. I know why you are asking - probably that way your GS looks more "cool/normal", but remember - our GS is already a ticking time bomb with all that 13.4 Nm of torque !

I didn't bother introducing that sound because my GS is fully functional without it, in fact, many members especially punarvasu advised against it.

• Bangalore to Mumbai- 1151 kms

Dear friends,

Small update, and a question:

my gs150r (the gorgeous ghost) is 10 months old, completed 7550 kms on odo, has only been in service center for planned servicing, no problems and decent mileage of 53-54 km/litre with mostly decent and relaxed riding.

Recently I did a saddlesore1000, road trip from bangalore to Navi Mumbai via Pune. Start to end distance was 1151 kms. bangalore to Pune = 14.5 hrs, slept at Pune for 7 hrs and then Pune to Mumbai another 2.5 hrs. Very nice roads, so, I was doing almost 80km/hr throughout, but let's say range was 70-90 km/hr, maximum speed 116 km/hr (for maximum 5-10 mins at a time, then reduce to 100ish, and then increase again if I feel like later on). Based on my calculations, fuel efficiency during this trip was between 42-44 km/litre.

After reaching Mumbai, I have got chain lubrication done from GC Suzuki. Got the bike serviced just 2 days before leaving from bangalore, so, the oil is new (ie now it is 1200 kms old).

This was the update, now the question: I don't know if it's real or psychological, but I feel bike is running slightly heavy (air pressure ok) and I feel hot air around engine area at traffic signal despite running only 4-8 kms. Should I get the engine oil changed? Right now it's the basic mineral oil as recommended by Suzuki. Also, why is the bike feeling heavy? Choke is off, idle rpm 1200 in warm condition and norm running is okay.

please advise.

thanks

bullshite... which SVC was it?

sales of gs150r is increasing lately... they were selling 50-60 few months back. Gixxer effect has carried over to other motorcycle models a bit.

Ride for longer say 30-40 kms.
What's your average journey length?

cold start idle RPM : 1400
hot engine idle RPM : 1600

Which engine was it? the new Idemitsu boxed in as 10w40 with MRP 390/-?

it's the standard mineral oil 20w40 which is recommended by Suzuki for gs150r. Should I renew the oil? Maybe because it's run 1100 kms within 24 hours, so, maybe the oil lost some of it's properties... I Am not sure..

And hot-idle-rpm not to cross 1600.

Let's assume it's Idemitsu 20w40, ride another 1,000 kms and then replace. Just not rev high when engine is cold.

Even I wanted to ask this.
Since the bike has done 67k, it was good to have both replaced.
Now the dampening of each shock(old vs new) would be different, affecting ride quality and handling.

Hope all of you are doing wellJ, Thanks for those helping hands in times of need. It has been a long time since I logged into this forum (ran through many hardships personally, Hope things will be fine sooner)…..

MY MILEAGE PROBLEM IS NOT RESOLVED YET L.*.8058 kms on odo

Now another mishap..

#(3 Sep, 4 a.m. approx.)started from my home to Elliot’s beach. The actual plan was to watch the sunrise and relax while watching Mr big daddy spread his golden rays with grace over the beautiful mother earth. Was Heading towards Elliot’s enjoying the lonely road and chilling breeze, Awesome right..
#4.10 a.m. approx... Barely made 2 km from my home. Now riding parallel with a blue 407 Truck with a classic romantic melody in sedate speed,.
Shit! A dog from nowhere came in front of me. Steered to avoid the dog but got skid and stuck between the wheels of the truck and centre median with a heavy blow in my head. Total blackout. Had no clues what happened until the truck driver separated me from the bike and helped me to get back to sense.
#4.11 a.m. approx... Gained my senses after few seconds. Checked my Body spares, everything is working fine except a few bruises here and there. Slight ringing in head and shoulder pain.
..The dog is unharmed and disappeared, Can’t blame the dog as it was unintentional (poor creature).
..Truck was solid .Can’t blame the driver since it isn’t his mistake.
#4.15 a.m. approx... The truck driver and a unknown soul helped me get my bike away from the road. Now relaxed a bit and checked my helmet – heavy deep scratches near the visor nut. Planning to return back to my home I got on my bike and noticed my L.RVM is missing. GS got back to life after few tries. Thank god..
Released the clutch and raised the accelerator and engaged first gear, Lets GO.. Wait a minute my bike isn’t moving. GOSHHH! Stepped down to see what’s wrong. OH MY GOOOOD!!!The rear bottom is completely crushed…This is seriously a bad day. :-(
#4.20 a.m. approx...Got My friends to help .I went to my friend home Leaving the GS at my friends place..,didn’t inform my parents As I don’t want my parents to see the bike's condition and get frightened ….
# 10 a.m... .loaded my GS in Tata ace and headed to SMK SUZUKI, PORUR
The initial Observations are as Follows..
Saree guard crushed, chain guard crushed, silencer crushed, Wheel bend, R.Shockx broken, Swing arm crushed, Crash guard (life saver)bend, handle bar bend, head lamp scratched…Let me breath..

The SC people Reported the bill would be anywhere around 25K .Reported to insurance people..

It has been Nearly 50 days .Till the 45th day the answer I got was “Some parts are yet to arrive”.

Now the Bike is ready and the bill amount is 35,100.00 RS.(thirty five thousand hundred Rupees only/).Seriously???

is it necessary to change every bolt, nut, washer, and cables? The labour charges seems to be a daylight burglary

How can I get these things down..??
1. It's easy to beat a man who's already down.
2. How much of that amount is covered by Insurance?
3. Were you not present at the SVC during the repairs/replacements?
4. Forks should have been replaced
5. Why was it necessary to replace muffler?
6. Are you getting all the replaced parts to take home?

I've zero experience with Insurance.
