  • Re: Suzuki GS150R

Changed over to Shell Advance Ultra. I could feel the difference, but its just subtle. Next time I will try AX7 and might stick with that.

Upgraded stock horn to Roots Vibro Mini. This fits perfectly and is better than stock horns. Also replaced stock headlight with Philips Blue Vision 4000k (12V 35/35W).

I have lost the manual. Can anyone tell me after how many KMS the spark plug has to be changed? Also suggest me a good brand/make. Thanks

      • Why downgrade from FS Ultra to SS AX-7 - cost?
      • I find the stock horn just fine and its nice and loud - How much did the Roots cost?
      • Maybe the manual is still lying in your house. Suzuki recommends replacing stock plug every 8000 kms.

That interval can be stretched with Platinum/Iridium plugs. Stick with stock plug if its keeping you happy.
      • So the free service coupons are lost too?

My sprockets are fine and I expect them to serve atleast 25-28k. But the OEM chain is “stretching” very madly. I think I will end up replacing chain before I change the sprockets.

You mean a squeaking sound? Might be dust. Also check if there is enough juice on the pads.

I see you have removed the chain covers - this will make frequent cleaning and lubing the chain a must. Otherwise metal will eat metal, not to mention the coarse “grinding paste” formed by sand and old grease.
I do not remember the Oil's exact name it was Shell, costed near Rs 700. Every once a week or when I wash my bike I use chain sprayand this is my second chain set (first one lasted 10,000KM). For the chirping noise, already got the caliper cleaned , it didn't help, though it was gone for a little while, with bad breaking for few kilometers , thinking of replacing both disc and caliper. And it is said by mechanics that replacing the whole chain set is better than replacing a single part.

          • Cost not an issue. But primarily, I didn't feel much of a difference with a FS oil. I will try SS once, if it is not upto my liking, I will try Motul FS
          • Roots costed me Rs800
          • I will then have to replace my spark plug.
          • I am sure the manual is lost. All the services are done for my bike. But I have driven only 9K KMS in two years.

              1. Shell Ultra 10w40 seem to shear too fast in shared (engine/clutch/transmission) sump. Try Motul 7100 10w40 once if you can.
              2. As discussed few posts back, NGK-CR6HIX might be a better substitute for stock/default NGK-CPR7HSA

              1. What's make & price of new chain set? Did you purchase chain-set at the SVC(DID make)?
              2. Switch to EP-90 gear-oil(API GL-4) from chain spray.

              1. check if front wheel rotates freely & braking is good.
              2. Brake Disc is expensive per spare parts list.

Interestingly, Shell Rimula R4 (mineral) and Shell AX-7 (SS) are very similar specs wise. I think DivyaSharan uses/used R4 in his ZMR.
He(DivyaSharan) remarks Rimula R4 to be better. R4 has API CI-4 specification.

May be the caliper grease has dried out. I *guess* simple caliper service will solve the issue. Ask your mechanic to apply TVS-Girling/Maruti Suzuki caliper grease and if you are into DIY, you can buy a can of Motul’s Brake Clean and employ it too. From the video, I see your GS is the 1st generation model - If you still running on the factory filled brake fluid, time to replace that too.

20k is too soon to replace the entire calliper+disc - Anyway your life hangs on this, replace if it can't be repaired/serviced.

As Sparkot said, brake disc is expensive (replace pads if they are worn beyond service limit) and gear oil is better for our chain than those spray type lubes. Never liked the Rolon spray I used - sticky and good for 4-5 days and then it attracted dirt crazily and dried up very fast.

                @SparKot,
Is Anilkumar9 still troubling you ?

                    Interesting

                    1. How much did you pay for those new shocks last year? Which month was it?
                    2. What was the manufactured date on those rear shocks when you bought them?

I did not got the chain set from SVC, it costed me Rs690(Diamond) . I asked SVC for the new caliper and disc here, It will cost Rs 3500 for both. Breaking is good , but the lever has started to press till the it touches the handle bar , Their was rust last time i got my Caliper cleaned.

I have a wibe free, crisp engine. The 4000K resonance lasted only initial few thousand KMs for me.

I may have to look at it closely. Are Bajaj's silencer mounting nut/bolt/washer/rubbers portable with GSR's?

                          1. How old is that brake-liquid in the master cylinder?

                          2. You may want to replace (as service-manual says)
                          • brake hose
                          • brake pads spring
                          • brake caliper shoes/gators
                          • brake-fluid with DOT-4 if existing is too old. Clean the Master Cylinder too.

                            1st service - suzuki
                            2nd service - castrol activ
from 3rd service - castrol power 1 ss

Before the 1st service I drove 400KMs in a single day. At the end of the day i found out at 3500RPM engine is silky smooth and at exactly 4000RPM a vibration creeps in.
After 2nd service i did it again, but i drove mostly above 6000RPM. At the end of the day i found out that the 4000k vibration has disappeared. After some riding in the lower RPMs through the city the vibrations again started to appear. But now at 10,000 KMs at the odo, there is no vibration at 4000RPM.

The crispiness of the engine is better if the idle speed adjustment screw is set to deliver the least amount of petrol.
