  • I now own a new GS150R! Smooth as butter bike!

I am happy to inform my fellow GS150R owners that I have recently joined the club! I now own the latest generation model and it is indeed a smooth buttery silky ride! So far, I have clocked 30 kilometres and am enjoying the experience under 4000rpm! Yes, religiously taking care of the machine and will continue to be a gentle rider(I am from the commuter class). My 100cc biker friend found the GS150R heavy for tackling the busy city traffic(with pillion) but admitted that he loved the 6 gears, suspension (and its settings), LCD display, smooth as silk ride etc etc.(he went on talking about it till I started yawning!) And behold, he wants the GS150R as his next bike! Lol...

A big thanks to xbhp.com and all you wonderful fellow owners for this magnificent thread which seems to be a greater information digest than Suzuki's knowledge of its own product! I have hardly had time to ride it around and it has stayed in the garage for most of its time since delivery! Here is a quick but not-so-good snap of the bike(apologies). Thank you once again!

        • Hi,
I bought my GS 150R about two month ago. I have put around 1.5k Kms on it. I can’t be more happier than I am when it comes the pleasure I get from riding a GS150R.

Unfortunately, for some reason after every ride I get this unbearable pain in the thumb joints on my both hands. It’s something I have been unable to figure out as to what could this be the reason, "strained wrist" problem was never an issue. In fact I think my wrists are fine. It’s just my thumb joints. This pain is really killing me.

Only the hunger to ride my GS150R is pushing me to still get on the saddle even though I know it’s going to hurt me later.

For the information I definitely have no "joint pains". I am 31yrs old, I am not a big man either, I am just 5ft 10inch and 80Kg weight.

This is my first motorcycle; I am also a new motorcycle rider.

I just have a feeling may be if I change my riding posture it might help me from get rid of this problem, or I need some modification in handle bar, clutch play or grips.

I need your inputs and any advice/suggestions which would help me enjoy the ride than think about the pain I have to go through later.

One more thing after feeding 25Ltr of regular petrol to my GS150R, last time I filled 5Ltr Speed petrol, now its feeling of hard gear shift which was not an issue before using Speed Petrol. But I found that gear shift is very smooth in high RPM i.e. RPM> 4000.

Please suggest me if I am missing.

          Thanks
          Kishore
          Thanks

Do you have the handlebar grips? They reduce a good amount of effort and thereby less pain for you.

Same problem for me too... i've posted about this few days back.. While running Shifting gears is as easy as it has been when i got my bike delivered. But for shifting to first gear after a stop, its kind of difficult.. I found that the gear lever is a little bit loose (i am able to move it sideways a little bit) ,, is it coz of that ?

But has it got something to do with Petrol ?

No issues while starting the bike.. Even shifting to first gear is perfectly fine at morning ... but i dont know why,, after running few kms, its not that easy to put it in first again..(in blocks, signals .. etc) .. . & I am not stomping on the gear lever.. but trying to put the gears as smooth as i can with minimum press ..

Yes, I am using a pair of hard rubber handlebar grips.

This was not an issue when I was using regular petrol, but after using SPEED sifting to a first gear is little hard, and I need to revive throttle unnecessarily to shift the gear.

Please post the gear ratios and dimensions of the bike from page 9-2 and 3 of the user’s manual. The 6 bikes reached the show room were delivered within 2 days. Hence didn’t get a chance to test ride it or, at least, check the manual.

                  • If you are a new rider that would explain it.

I bought the GS as my first bike too about one year back .....
I had similar problems. It was just because I was not used to continuously handling the clutch and gears.
I also used to have pains in my left ankle and hand joints. Now it does not affect me that much ...... only in heavy traffic and subsides immediately

just keep at it ..... it will reduce over time.

I dont this there are many postures .... just sit comfortably in a position where your legs properly wrap and fit into the tank contours.

btw ... i am also 5'10" and around the same weight ..... it should have nothing to do with this . GS suits us well

I was on a 200 kms ride today, starting in the early morning. While coming back, I too have felt this pain on the thump joints.
I think it was due to my habit of keeping my left thump on the horn and the left and right index and middle fingers on the clutch and brake levers, the position of the hands being awkward.
The pain will be reduced when you get used to riding as zoid said or try a different positioning of your hands on the handle bar.

                        • I must say this here that my friend has experienced the same kind of pain in his both hands and he too finds it very uncomfortable to ride the GS. He is of the same height and weight as you! In his words, it is the riding posture(He called it 'Apache posture!') which seems to be the problem and I feel that when his hands are straight while riding and the elbow joints not bent as well, maybe the base of the thumb, the curve is taking a hit from the light jerks transferred from the wheels? Hey, I am not an expert but wondering about it.

Thank you Vikshe! Yes, the bike looks good, however, I would have loved a slightly more visible graphics like in the previous generation?

                              • While coming to office today, my GS made an “air blast” (the sound some old Kinetic Hondas make). Is it backfiring ? My GS is due for 3rd free service coming Monday – pointers will help – should I ask them to do anything specific ? Backfiring is not much reported in the Xbhp GS forums.
