  • Re: Suzuki GS150R

My GS has now run 10200 kms.

    • ready for spark plug replacement.
    • getting ready for air filter replacement in near future.
    • too early for fork oil change?

Myself as Pillion Rider on my own GS:

Road: Poorly lit ECR aka East Coast Road, TN.
Caution for: People crossing, occasional super slow AshLey lorries, overtaking opposite traffic and share autos making U-turns.
    Weather: Typical sultry Chennai.
    Time: 1030 PM, Sunday traffic.
Pilot: Buddy of mine who has experience on the Splendor and CBZ-X (negligible).

    Observations:

    • Pillion portion of seat firmer than the pilot's.
    • Highest pillion seat I have experienced so far (compared unfairly to Splendor/Activa).
    • Commanding position - superb view of the road ahead.
    • Absolute nil vibration on the pillion footpegs in 3.5-4K.
    • "Is the engine running?"
    • Another bud's CBZ-X on our side sounded like a wet grinder but again my perspective was different. (Note - I like Honda's smoothness and refinement).
    • Punarvasu was spot on. Engine sound is the loudest on my USB MP3 or when I put my ears near to the cylinder hunting for the notorious tappet ghost. Throaty when I was riding. Negligible as pillion rider. Different but sweet when I was a pedestrian/bystander (once).
    • Slightly boring - I enjoyed the most while driving myself.

1500+ kms completed on Mobil Delvac Super 1300 - A Diesel HDEO:

    My subjective observations:

    • Delvac is a Mineral oil with good amount of ZDDP and detergents. As psr sir says, this little extra ZDDP will offer slightly more protection.
    • To be very frank, there is nothing magical about it. I found no difference between Delvac and the original Castrol Go! I was using earlier - i.e. vibrations, if any present, did not vanish after filling Delvac. Minerals are all the same including SVC filled 20W-40 and Servo 20W-40 that was used much earlier. Probably most of us tend to blindly blame the oil for hard shifts, overheating in city traffic, etc.
    • Shell Rimula R4 mineral is very close to Shell AX7 SS specs-wise. Both contain good amount of ZDDP and detergents. AX7 has lesser Sulfated Ash than Rimula.
    • I wonder how somebody has written a mini-review on almost all the oils available/was available in india for motorcycles - I can bearly make out and significant difference - less headache for me!
    • Shell and Castrol India have revamped their websites - especially the products section.
    • Used AX7 once - was good.
    • Planning to shift to a SS oil in future - haven't decided which one - Shell AX7 or Castrol Power 1 or XYZ. Planning on a 3k oil change (hope its not too much for a SS oil). Still Rimula R4/Delvac interests me tough.

    I love my GS .

Downloaded videos, got two videos for Access125 as well.; apparently these Vibrant PR have made training video.

There is something wrong with last two video links you posted.

I tried again with my monthly 3G limit; no luck this time as well. Something wrong with Java on mys system. I digged out temp.in.doc (41.3 MB) file from windows temp folder. It's not in any condition to share, all jumbled missing texts. etc.

Oh, I completed manual translation; 10 working man days.

Does anybody want to comment on why GS150R uses CPR7HSA (P: Projected center electrode insulator)?

Per NGK India site we have no G-Power & Iridium substitutes for GS150R's CPR7HSA spark-plug:

Not only Gs150 but many other bikes such as unicorn, stunner, crux, fz etc also use a projected type plug. I will post in detail today afternoon as it is difficult for me to type from mobile.

Also comment on whether I can go for CR7HGP (G-Power substitute for CR7HSA) as CPR7HGP is not available(will have to check with Amit-Auto-Agencies(BLR)).

ENGINE OIL FILTER, Part No : 16510-33G00-001

I've not seen GS150R/Access125 written on any spares I bought. If only we could decode the part-numbers !!!

Apparently same as Access125's Oil-Filter part# that I bought recently:

For removing bolts, T spanner won't go inside right.. bolt edge is very less. Tell me some good brands to buy T spanner? Where i can get in bangalore?

                      That's interesting.

Are you sure you'll find chain sprockets after opening those RHS case bolts?

I have shown one image, check that and tell me the Tspanner bit size for chain cover removing and engine bolts which we see in all bikes?
                          1. I don't know the actual size of chain cover bolts & front sprocket cover bolt. However, I can guess them. 10mm chain cover bolts & 8mm front sprocket cover bolts.

                          2. I've an 8mm T-Spanner, it makes bolt loosening/tightening process much easier

                          3. I've open spanner & ring spanner sets from Eastman up to 22mm. Rest I bought from Taparia, 27-24 ring spanner, like screw-drivers, driver-set, Allen-keys set, pliers, ratchet, sockets & lever etc...

For chain cleaning I would recommend:

                          1. 8mm & 10mm ring spanners, you may also need a star(philips) screw driver
                          2. kerosene, last time I bought from provision store it was Rs 65/- per ltr. And an old tooth brush
                          3. Buy an EP-90 gear oil bottle for lubing chain after cleaning. You can use also use it in Access125 gear oil change.

Check/Search drive chain maintenance/cleaning posts(DIY) for further details.

We(I) demand at least one photo of your chain cleaning process.

PS: Your posts create lost of confusion and misunderstanding, my apologies for the displeasure caused.

I've a bottle of EP-140 and a bottle of EP-90. I lube once every 500 kms at least & after every long journey(more than 200 kms).

P as you mentioned stands for projected.
A plug with projected tip can ignite the air-fuel mixture more evenly when compared to non-projected type.

When a projected tip is used, the temperature of plug also increases.

Use of projected tip plug is limited by the volume of the head's combustion chamber, the angle of spark-plug and piston crown design. If the clearance is less then the piston can hit the plug and damage it.
In case of horizontal engines such as splendor, the spark-plug is very close to the piston at TDC. Ideally the spark plug has to be in the center of the head for even ignition but then due to camshaft and valves, spark plug is located at an angle.

                                CR7HGP cannot be used because
                                1. Ignition of air-fuel mixture won't be even as center electrode tip length is decreased.
2.It will run cooler when compared to CPR7HSA.
