For that price you can get a brand new RR310, CB300R or Duke 390 for extra 50K.
If ABS is a not a deal than you can go ahead with R3

    2. Also only other comparable bike to R3 is N300 and Benelli 302R (twin cylinder , full faring bike), N300 is cheaper but it'll be discontinued by 2020 (rumor only due to BS6), Benelli has dealership issues.

    3. Buying a new bike or car is not advised in any segment unless its very very critical, wait for BS6 bikes to be launched and you don't want to regret buying older design when new design 2020 R3 is already launched abroad, so it might get launched here after BS6 rule.
From whatever I had read on the internet and the reading around 100+ pages of this ownership thread I feel that Yamaha R3 would be the best blend if I want short thrilling rides and will also support me for long touring. I don't want to buy Cruisers as at 3-4L there are not many real cruisers out there.
Also I read somewhere that Yamaha R3 service and parts are not much of a issue while others like Benelli are bad idea if I am not in a metro city.

As for Duke 390, I flat out don't like it and CB 300R I doubt would be a good companion for long rides.

      You are correct.

I use R3 for daily office commutes and I've done as high as 700 kms in a day for touring. It's flawless. That's what the bike was meant to do. If you remember the ad campaigns back in 2015 when it was released. "A sportsbike you can ride everyday". Sales & Service costs are cheaper. I've owned the Benelli TNT 300 before. The service costs are high around 6K. R3 gets 3 free service which costs like 2K each (consumables cost) and the paid ones are 3-3.5K. Also, availability of spares is quicker. Benelli had me waiting for 3 weeks. Yamaha got an important spare part for me and bike ready in 7-8 working days. I've attached a service cost chart that I found at my local Yamaha service center. I hope it helps.Click image for larger version

CB300R might not be an ideal tourer IMO.

BSVI R3 could cost 10-15% more now, says Yamaha India.

Read more about it here --> BSVI Motorcycles and Scooters may get expensive by 10-15 per cent, says Yamaha India - Overdrive

Since the discussion was on 2019 R3, thought i'll post the link here. It might help any prospective buyer(s)

I concur with you on all of these above mentioned points. I've been using my R3 to commute to and fro work daily from past 2 and a half years and trust me, only commuting is the best part
Long rides are a different ballgame together. Just keeps on munching miles without any fuss whatsoever.

Also, yes, the consumables and spares are easily available and hasn't put a big hole in my pocket

A general question to the R3 owners - how do you make the R3 more pillion friendly?
Have any of you added grab rails or maybe a back rest sort of extension?

Thanks man, I see this one is about the grab rails, anything for a seat/back rest at the back?
              Think Avenger/Thunderbird type.

My partner doesn't feel too confident about these seats and having a back rest will go a long way in convincing her that it literally won't blow her away

I have never seen a R3 with back rest and I sure don't wanna see one in the future.

You can be the first one to do it! Cheers!

Seen something around 12-13kmpl while ripping her on the highway. However once reached the target speed, got around 19-20.

When doing "spirited" riding, i've seen the speedo show 10'ish - 11'ish but that's just the live mileage. Average has never went down below 17-18 kmpl in my close-to-3 years of ownership
