2. Engine heat is much less wrt to duke in city rides.

3. Acceleration is linear wrt mad hooligan power of duke 390 which makes it difficult to ride duke in city.

4. Headlights are alot better wrt R15.

5. Riding posture is perfect neither too extreme nor too straight.

6. Tyres are ok i mean If u are commuter and tourer then MRFs will do the job whereas metz in D390 offered excellent grip.

7. Seats are alot comfy and I feel like sitting on a sofa after riding D390.

P.S. - Above points are according to my point of view after owning both the bikes. However i will keep thread updated as I clock more kms.

Now some pics from recent rides.

I think u should compare ur r3 with rc n ninja. Also u mentioned Metzelder are good tyres on the Duke, a few duke owners I know hate the stock Metz.

That too coming up in few days as I clock few kms both on both bikes. Some people hate metz on dukes because full potential of metz is exploited on tracks but they are really sticky and provide excellent grip on both dry and wet surface.

My biggest fear has come true. Today's story goes like this.

1. Gave the bike at Bangalore wheels, Yamaha at 9:00 am.

2. Got confirmation from call that it was just a mis-alignment between the tyre and rim and re-fitting the tyre has solved the problem. What a bull !!

3. Was in a hurry and trusted dealer words, took the delivery of the bike at 7:00pm and didn't check the rim area as I was getting late for a short dinner with friends (took my car)

4. Came back just now and discovered the lie of the dealer. They have tried to repair the RIM and have hit with some object. There are definite damage marks on the RIM area. Let the images do the talking

Report this matter immediately to Senior officials in Yamaha. This is completely unacceptable. This shows that they have not checked your tire and have struck the rim with a hard object due to which the paint has chipped off the rim. Don't delay this! These service people are trying to act over smart and will never prefer you to get replacement of the rim in warranty but u should get a replacement.

this is a 3.5 lakh+ bike, how can they even think to do so.
Dont be silent, raise it to Yamaha higher authorities.

i don't think anything will happen now , the dealer clearly blame that user has run over on pathholes/un-even surface which resulted in slight bent on rim.

on the positive note , issue got solved although in not-so-expected manner. and i can assure that he won't face the problem again , as me too faced similar issue while on ride [other bike] luckly nearby lorry tyre repair shop corrected the bend with hammer.

Dude, those marks you also get when tyre is removed from the rim to either replace a tyre or to fix the alignment. Most dealers/svc's are not very careful when doing this and that causes scratches, paint peeling on the rim. Add to this lot of svc's dp not use machine to remove the tyre from rim, and even if machine is used, they are not that careful.

I got the tyres on my 650 replaced, and entire time I was there to make sure they use the machine to remove the old tyre and put the new one. In spite of me being very careful, they managed to scratch the wheel at one place. Its not something that is visible, but if you go searching you can find it.

Quick 3700 kms ownership review of the black R3!
It is noon in Hyderabad. Summers has started to set in. The traffic is off peak (though not by a lot!). You have an option to take a shortcut or a long cut to office post dropping off your better half! You take the long cut - not once not twice but almost everyday!
This is what the R3 makes you do.
The absolutely beautiful engine that revvs effortlessly to 10K RPM, the 'soundgasm' you get post 8k RPM makes even city rides worth it!

Well if you did not understand the theatrical review, let me put down the 'technical' points!
1. Engine - The bike loves to rev! 7k, 8k--> 10K .. You will not know it. No vibes at all (atleast not for me). So when you revup overtaking a slow truck or a not so slow mini van on a particular, you will not know that you have hit 100-110 kmph on the odo in the process. The bike is so good at hiding high speeds!
2. Acceleration (nothing technical about it!) - I had a RC390 before. Due to its huge torque number, it was a rocket of the line. The R3 is not a rocket of the line but it is not a cycle either. Its all about the RPM you launch it at!
3. Gear shifts - at low RPMS, you will feel the sluggishness. Post 8K RPM, the gearshifts are smooth as butter.
4. Engine Braking - I love this feature. Especially in the City. The R3 has awesome engine braking. It helps me take a lot of pressure off the clutch and brakes.
5. Brakes - are good. The R3 drops speed fast and brakes have good feedback. Can be improved with steel lines (looking to get one soon!).
6. Tires - they are poor! (nothing more to say!)
7. Ergonomics - I am not really a fan of the touring riding position. Makes me feel like I am riding a splendor. Investments in a pair of clipons and rearsets are underway.
8. Cutting through traffic - The thing about the R3 is that it is narrow (like the RC). With the peppy engine and an apt low range torque, you can cut and swivel through traffic!

Will be changing the oil to Motul 7100 10W40 at 4K KMS (provided I get three cans!) or will stick to Yamalube.

And here is wishing VR46 a belated Happy Birthday! Revz your Heart!
There is no better therapy than riding a bike down a straight road at full throttle with the sound of the engine for company.

Spoke to the owner of the showroom and he gave time for Friday. Will update the developments on Friday evening. He checked with the service manager and updated that the RIM was not bent and it is just re-installation of tyre (to re-align beadings) which was carried out.

A few niggles sorted and thn she's all yours forever! Deathmate.Zed, that's the risk you gotta take for owning a first lot product. That's coz, I assume more attention is given to the first lot bikes before it hits mass production and probably before localisation of a few spares kicks in..

I understand that Karan Bhai. But if more attention is given to the first lot bikes then shouldn't they have less niggles .. Yes and as discussed in our whatsapp group, pune first lot has these issues. That's why I wondered if the carrier truck carrying the bikes hit something on the way
