  • Sorry to bother you again and again, but I want to be completely sure as this is one of the most important parts of a bike.
Should I install a 13t sprocket or is the 14t front socket enough to gain a considerable low end pickup?

Be happy and a reason will come along !

I am not aware your current top speed in each gear, but general rule of thumb you'll lose 4-5kmph of speed for every teeth you go down.
Just an example if your bike did 50kmph in 5th gear @4000rpm before, now if you go down a teeth on front sprocket it'll only do 45-46kmph in same 5th gear @4000rpm.

If you are willing to let down more than 8-10kpmh of current top speed, you can go down to 13T and acceleration will improve very much.
14T will not show much loss of top speed and acceleration increase will be pretty stuble and will not a drastic night and day difference.

Please note down current speed your bike does in each gear at 4000rpm and 5000rpm. If you can post it here, we'll get a clear idea on which would be the perfect pick.

      • Dear friends. There was oil leakage in both front forks. Now they changed oil and seal but shock absorption is not happening, ride is really hard. Its this normal? or service centre guys screwed up something?

They filled excess oil, that's why damping is minimum.
Same can be happen due to higher grade hydraulic oil also, but let's assume service center guys used the genuine specific grade oil.

Like Vishal said above, the SVC guys have poured more oil than necessary, making your ride more stiff. Generally it's 20w fork oil which is poured. You would need to decrease the fluid by 5ml atleast and see if it makes any ride difference.

            • Hi.

My hornet has started a new issue of ''vapour lock / vacuum lock / air lock". The bike would behave as it ran out of fuel and completely die ( even with 2-3 lit of fuel 1-2 bars of indication). Then I need to open the fuel filler cap and again close and the issue resolved for 15-20kms and again same issue. This issue does not exist when the fuel is more than 1/4 tank.

Any help in this regard would be highly appreciated.

              Thanks in Advance.

              • My first serious issue with bike after 5 and half years and 71,0000 km

While returning from my work place head light went off .... bur indicators and pass light was working and helped to reach my home. Next day I went to local mechanic and found battery also weak due to no input current. Issue was with 'Stator comp" , replaced with original Honda.... total cost including labour was Rs.1,300. • Hi Guys,

After 4 years and some 36900 kilometer, the ninth service was done. The service time schedule was overshoot by 1 month but due to covid lockdown, only 5000 km were run. No particular issues this time too. Just engine oil change and general service were done. Cost was, to my surprise, Rs. 830/- (Usually they charge Rs. 1000+ !!, don't know what happened). The air filter was cleaned only as it was replaced in last service.

The service job was better this time. The guy did a test ride and said the forks are bit loose. So it was tightened and the handlebar was also adjusted. He said the chain may have to be changed during next service.

As soon as I reached home, the brake discs were cleaned with soap solution to avoid any effects of the diesel wash. The chain was lubed with HP EP-90 gear oil. After a brief ride, I feel some minor vibrations from the front end seems gone. Whenever the ride gets rough, it was solved by chain lube. So I am mostly accustomed to other minor vibrations, if any. Overall, the service made the bike young again. Another year of happy ownership.

Coupled with a renewed insurance and PUC certificate, my trusted transporter is all set for another semester of Honda service, another year of happy ownership, and many more kilometres ahead.

Thank you all for the support.

OT: For the first time I saw, at the sales area near the service centre, a blue Hornet 2.0 with that gorgeous golden USD forks. The similarity to Hornet is all there but looks very different also. Very beautiful and substantial design. But never saw one in the road yet. Hornet and MT-15 were not seen on the road in the initial years of launch, in our area, but now, not that rare. Hope this also find buyers like us. Recently, the dreams of buying a Honda CB300R came up, but then the exhaust note of Benelli TNT 300 coexisted. A twin cylinder 300cc street bike with a sweet exhaust note will be the better choice ("Am I describing the Benelli only?") While speaking of exhaust notes and bikes in general, people are saying "Go electric" and then back to square one. Looking at my Hornet and my car; I will be like "Do I need another bike?" : )

                    • Guys, please suggest me both, front as well as rear tyres for my Hornet 160r
To increase the low end pickup, I'm looking for a 140/60 tyre in the rear.

Be happy and a reason will come along !

                      • Hi all,

A few days before, while cleaning my bike, I have found oil leaking from the cylinder head and exhaust port area (I hope these are the names for that particular area). It is not like oil dripping, but there is oil all over the cooling fins and near the exhaust outlet. A reference picture is added for a clear idea. What may be the reason? I think the sealing needs to be redone. My bike is 4+ years old and almost 39k kilometers done. No engine related or major works are done to date.

Another problem faced is, while tightening the front shocks during the last service (due to some vibrations), the technician loosened the handlebar and later adjusted it (and possibly the clutch and brake levers too). He might have done it as goodwill but now I lost the perfect position I enjoyed for 4 years. I tried to adjust both the handlebar and levers back at home, but still experiencing some discomfort over the daily commute. As nothing might have changed to my physique during this period, I sincerely doubt this adjustment was the sole reason. Any pointer to achieve the original positions of the handlebar and levers. I am experiencing some pain in my arms so I changed my seating posture to overcome it but am not completely happy.

                        Thank you all.

                        • Hey unik definitely there is a leak from head gasket but it's normal as seen most of the Honda bikes. Just clean it once and see.

Seems like a head gasket leak. If it persists, get the gasket replaced. It's a nasty lie piece that keeps losing it's place due to heat at times. Nothing major that can't be fixed.

Thanks Vishal Wagh and Bismaya . Due to constant rains, I got no time to clean the bike, nor riding it. I checked the oil level, it seemed fine. Lubed the chain, this morning, to prevent rust in this wet climate. Looking forward to clean it and fix it when time permits.
