  • Re: Royal Enfield Himalayan

Has any BS4 owner here faced any breakdowns (major or minor) on road?
Would really appreciate your feedback. I'm in a big dilemma right now on whether to buy this bike or not.
I really loved the bike just after riding (TD) it for few Kms. But now, after seeing the complaints of few owners, I'm really confused.
    Please help...

    Thanks in advance..
    Cheers..

      For Himalayan BS3 Owners:
There is an updated alternator coil. Yes again. About 2 weeks ago. It solving the ignition issues, increasing smoothness, pickup and a bit of fuel consumption. My friend got it changed at Bramhma Motors, Pune. Also he got his lock key set changed under warranty as his ignition lock went kaput. Anybody else got these things updated?

Hi, I own BS4 Himalayan which I bought it on 27th Sept 2017,
I've Completed 1600kms and it got breakdown once due to "KEY SET" issue.

I was combing back from 580kms of trip and suddenly engine got "Switching off".
After trying for sometime, I've realized that, Ignition was getting ON if the Handle is turned towards LEFT,
and Turning Right side was switching off the engine.

Luckily bike was brokedown within the City(BANGALORE) limits, with the help of RSA(RoadSideAssistance), I was able to Tow bike till Service station.
After replacing the "KEY SET", bike is running fine.

One of friend @krishna07kk who own's BS4 had issue with GearShift and ClutchAssembly got replaced after ~10days of purchase.

        To summarize it,
        Pros:
        1. Smoothness of the engine compared to BS3,

        Cons:
        1. KeySet issue
        2. Hard gear shift issue still there(Comapared to BS3,. little bit improved)

I'll update the thread as soon as I come across new issues :-)

          Thank you Naveen,

I had the clutch replaced with in 350 KM ODO.
Problem was once you stop the bike in neutral, N to 1 was not possible until you push the bike a little further, basically roll the wheel to get into 1st gear.
After clutch has been replaced (under warranty) I don't have this issue.

Issue I have observed in daily commute is, If you have to decelerate quickly to avoid pot hole or vehicle in front 5th gear to 3 rd works fine , 3 to 2 gets stuck . Have to quickly release clutch and pull it then shift to 2nd.

Other than this chain started to rust and even the welding of exhaust near right foot peg (Image attached). SC guys have applied a coat of paint on exhaust rust. Lubed the chain.

Not had a chance to take the bike for a long drive. Will have to wait and watch.

It's basically the alternator coil from the BS4.

Regarding the clutch, the issue is typical RE. I used to face the issue when the engine was hot in my CL500. I had to switch OFF the engine before I could shift to Neutral.

Have heard of the update here in Bangalore. Haven't changed anything with the updated one as I am not facing any issue. Too scared to change anything when everything is running fine, pata nahi whether it will work fine or not after the upgrade. Weird situation to be in

[emoji23]. Got mine changed here in Nagpur. Its not the BS4 one. Its a modified BS3 one as per RE. Dunno. I did not feel any changes though in the next 12km of commute.

                • Stator update for BS3 with BS4 stator coil

There is a noticeable change as per one of my friend's dad who rides a Himalayan. He noticed difference in idling and pick up.

Me and my friend both have the "offroad exhaust" by RE on our respective H's. We did not notice any change per se but our third friend qho haa stock exhaust did find difference in idling and pick up. Anyway good to know. Also my warranty is soon going to be up. Will be completing 20k kms. Lets see how the H holds up now. Meanwhile i have named my Himalayan SNAFU. [emoji16]

Can you post a pic of the bike with the offroad silencer? How's the sound and performance?

It looks the same shape wise. The colours are inverted. Bike feels a bit free. Revs go more. Is a bit fast. Also a bit louder not very loud but now it has a specific sound. On high speeds it does announce your presence.

Looking at the current road conditions and tons of speed breakers and rumbler strips inside Pune, I have finalized on purchasing the Himalayan. Since I will doing the Pune-Mumbai-Pune circuit, am planning to go for good leg guard and saddle bag stays. Does RE provide saddle bag stays as an accessory? I was also looking at what NH4 motorheads is also selling.

RE doesn't offer luggage stays per se. Most stays are custom made. They do provide, "expensive" saddle bags for an "expensive bike" to make one feel expensive.

These guys have been garnering attention off late.

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
                            The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

I think they don't have anything for the Himalayan.

Right. Nothing specific for Himalayan, just saddlebags that's generic to their entire range. NH4 MOTORHEADS, do provide elegant saddlebags that go with the hardware of the stock Himalayan.
