  • Re: Royal Enfield Himalayan

Guys, Need one quick help with regards to the engine oil..

I am planning to start the use of Motul 5100 4T Hybrid 15W-50 to my Himalayan.

Do you think I can directly start using it replacing the company filled in oil ..? My bike has run for about 5.5k kms now..

In few forums, I have noticed people suggesting to use 3000T 15W50 first and then switch to 5100 4T.

    Any suggestions..?

No ABS either (not that we expected one anyways )

PS: onroad price quoted was 1.98 lacs Mumbai.
I've test ridden the REH BS4 from Bengaluru Teknik Motors indra nagar. Rode almost a KM and felt much smoother and refined than the 1st version.
Physically there is no change in it.
The BS4 has .5BHP added power that sums around 25BHP.
I really don't know how this will decrease the mileage.
I think the mileage should be slightly better as it's a FI edition.
Expected to deliver the vehicle by Sep 3-4 th week.

Including that 3-4 weeks, it will make my 7th month of waiting after making the booking back in March 2 2047.

Oh I didn't know that. Do you have any news on latest waiting period?

Yes . As the BS4 FI vehicles have launched, as per them it's expected to start delivering vehicles in another 2-3 weeks. However they haven't started taking the payment yet.

Same here. I took a test ride at a dealer based at Calicut, Kerala yesterday and the BS4 version's gear shift and power delivery felt smoother than the previous version. The CSM mentioned a waiting period anywhere between two to three months though - which might mean a longer period in reality.

What I'm waiting for - like many others who'd love to own this machine - is the info that RE has addressed the quality issues before the roll out this time.

Apparently, this particular dealer had to bear the brunt of customer ire earlier, with a few irate owners organising a small posse of Himalayans with wreaths on it. They staged a commotion in front of the dealership I heard. Typical of Kerala style people power at work.

One can imagine then the amount frantic communication that must've been sent previously from many dealers to the company with the customers dissatisfaction mentioned.

RE, you simply must get it right this time. What a waste of engineering it can turn it to be (again). Anyway, keeping my fingers crossed and waiting for ownership feedback. Otherwise, I'll have to reluctantly opt for the other options I've lined up.

                  Really?? Another 2-3 months?
Are you going for a new booking or already booked?
I've done my booking back in the month of March 2nd. I think that's why they said the ETA is 2-3 weeks.

My brother booked the bike and they are giving delivery in 25 days. Test rode the bike, very smooth, took all the way till 90 still no vibrations and the clutch was light and gear shifts were smooth.

It's strange about the waiting periods in different locations. The waiting period of two months or more was informed last week by the dealer at Calicut, Kerala. But when I enquired this week back at where I live - Coimbatore - these guys said 30 days.

I wonder if the waiting periods have now reduced because RE has got it's new production unit functioning. Which could be a sign of better manufacturing quality in the new versions.

Or it could lead to more errors in the manufacturing process as the new plant gets into optimal shape. Either way, prudent people don't buy the first batch.

Absolutely. Why do I get the feeling it's going a long wait before we can be sure whether RE has done what's required for making this beautiful machine VFM? Ironically, that's not like asking for the moon is it?

I would suggest everybody to wait for first batch to pass before buying any vehicle. I did the same with my Himalayan and man i am one satisfied customer.
I have a carb edition and a second/early third batch (10k kms done). No issues so far (Touch wood).Click image for larger version

Good to hear, dead_piper! And yes, touch wood - may you have many more peaceful miles with your Himalayan.

I've not booked as yet, but I've been waiting since May to own the Himalayan and have fought the impulse to opt for other options in the meantime.

With due respect to all who've booked earlier and have been waiting months for the BS4, how long do you think one should wait after the first deliveries start happening in order to get second/third batches?

Any info would be much appreciated. [emoji111]🏻
