Re: TVS Apache RTR 200 4V Ownership Experience
Check your rear tyre axle position. Compare the position of axle from left and right. Some time , right side axle might loosen and moved a bit. This could result in wobble effect and don’t forgot to check you tyre pressure.Originally posted by [email protected] View Post

Thanks for the inputs. This is helpful. I will definitely try it. Sorry if sound like a noob (which I am), but, by this logic, the suspension should perform well in warm weather? Today I reduced the tyre pressure to recommended combination and rode on the usual road. There was a marked difference. Will monitor for some time. Another question. Does cleaning the monoshock by pressure wash help?Originally posted by TarunSundar View PostRear mono shock is built by showa suspension. They used pressurised air and oil along with a piston for damping the shock effect. Due to climate and ambient temperature, oil and air density might change and this may resulted in harsh and stiff suspension. Try pumping the suspension before riding. This could heat up the suspension and its internal liquid.

No issues bro. In warm weather the oil will be in optimum viscous and density. And no need of cleaning. Since it is completely sealed, no thing will enter inside. And I’m sorry for not mentioning about tyre pressure. Always inflate with respect to recommendation and do that before you ride or when tyre is cold.Originally posted by lone_wolf7508 View PostThanks for the inputs. This is helpful. Rear wheel balance is good and axle also i got this issue recently i think my mono suspension not good ? Or mono suspension rubbers ? Can i check ? And please help can i use fully synthetic oil 10w40 or 10w50 instead of tvs tru4 synthetic 10w30 ?Originally posted by TarunSundar View PostCheck your rear tyre axle position. 10w40 will be perfect choice but 10w50 will compromise the performance. Due to Extra viscous in the oil , engine power delivery will be affected.Originally posted by [email protected] View PostRear wheel balance is good and axle also i got this issue recently i think my mono suspension not good ? I asked about cleaning because the monoshock is covered in grime as of now after my recent ride of 1200 kms. It may or may not affect the ride quality but it sure looks dirtyOriginally posted by TarunSundar View PostNo issues bro. In warm weather the oil will be in optimum viscous and density. Re: TVS Apache RTR 200 4V Ownership Experience
I have booked BS4 RTR 200 Carb ABS Smart Connect version in White-Red colour. Awaiting delivery in 2 weeks.
I have been riding 2009 Apache RTR 160 Fi for the past 10 years.
A few queries regarding my new bike:
1. How is your experience with Smart X Connect App? Any bugs, niggles?
2. How is your experience in maintaining White colour RTR 200? How does the colour hold long term? Is there yellowing?
3. Where have you installed helmet lock? I had installed them on rear pillion handgrip in RTR 160 which faces backwards and is longer. RTR 200's faces forward and is too short to install here? Please post pictures.
4. I went through this ownership thread. The most common problem faced seems to be cold start. Is there any other common issue in RTR 200 that I should be aware of?
Thanks in advance.
I can't wait to have my new bike delivered.

Re: TVS Apache RTR 200 4V Ownership Experience
Please share the specifics about retuning bcoz I also want to retune it so that it will give better performance along with the better mileage. My bike has fallen a month back in rain in parking. The full tank petrol leaked and mixed with engine oil and damaged the air filter too. Underneath the driver's seat there was petrol. Post changing engine oil and filter and doing proper diesel wash, it seems the carb tuning messed up. I want to do it on stock setting and then tune them.Originally posted by TarunSundar View PostI had similar issues. In my case it was like 42kmpl to 30kmpl. I retuned carb and adjusted the valve clearance.
Guys pls share the stock carb setting.

I had a rope style helmet lock which I had tied up to the side saree guard.
Coming to maintenance: While cleaning or dusting, please use the cloths with soft hands near to the horse logo or else they will run away. 1 horse will cost you around 700bucks. Take care of the stickers. In my bike it was coming out within 2months of purchase. Park in shade. Avoid direct sunlight as this might be an issue but not sure.
Cold Start: What to say about it. If you're following this forum, you have an idea. My bike is perfect it this situation. Parked under shade for 4 hrs or more, you have to use choke. Parked in open for 5hrs or more, you have to use choke. Without choke, it refuse to start and if you stay in a society where people look to your bike and admires its beauty, definitely be shameless every morning as it will not start with choke also in one shot :P
The self start also has mysterious issues not sure only with my bike or others also face the same. Some times, if the bike is in gear and you want to start it with holding the clutch properly, the bike doesn't start. You have to put it in neutral to start. It is ridiculous when you're in a traffic or stopping at signals. Most of the time you have to put the bike in neutral to start. In this scenario, my glamour does well. It even starts in 4th gear. :P
My bike's ODO is 13800km and till date repairs are listed below:
Spark Plugs (has to be changed in 10k km) - no warranty
Cone Set (Good for 15k kms. But my bike cone set gone in 12k kms) No warranty
Head lamp bulb- No warranty
Left Side switches - No warranty
Gear Sensor: 3 times within a year and the 4th one is also gone now.(No Warranty) (Very Common issue. within 3-4 months it will display false gear positions)
Fuel Sensor: No warranty
Horse Logo both sides: Done by TVS after rigorous complaints
Right Rear Panel: Done by TVS after rigorous complaints due to the sticker issue
Pending: Clutch Plate(It is good for up to 15k kms but in bangalore's traffic it seems gone now)
Note: my bike is one year old.
Actually, I am planning to sell this bike now. Had enough of visiting service centers. They do a service and a new issue pops up within a month.
Now, engine response is also not lenient. It is lagging somewhat because, to get power you have to be in 4k or more rpm. Don't know if this is bcoz clutch plate or something else. I believe, my bike is over driven as in year it has completed 13800kms and all the distance within the city. Haven't taken it to a long drive on highways.
But there are good things also about this bike:
It is a style statement. Mine is black color variant. Throttle response was also good and best exhaust note within the segment. Best engine also. No vibrations. Very good and soft braking not like bajaj 200ns. My bike's Top speed is 118 with a pillion and it is quite stable. No vibrations. Mileage is good. For single rider, around 38kmpl and with pillion, around 34kmpl was getting earlier.
Hope, I have covered most of your concerns.
PS: Please complete the run in period as specified. Don't put lot of stress on the engine. Use HELMET and Drive Safe.

Re: TVS Apache RTR 200 4V Ownership Experience
There is no common/stock carb setting, it differs for each and every bike. So you have to find the best setting for your bike.Originally posted by imashish2789 View PostPlease share the specifics about retuning bcoz I also want to retune it so that it will give better performance along with the better mileage. Cold start issues can be due to poor carb setting. Once you tune it for a optimal setting, you can start your bike with out the use of choke. Self start issue is due to the clutch lever, there will be a switch in your clutch lever which bypass and closes the circuit for the self motor. Try using full clutch setting or remove the clutch lever from the left handle bar bracket and clean the switch and tighten the switch.
Gear sensor in RTR200 is a very common issue. but changing it 4 times in a year is quite unbelievable. Gear sensor can be glitchy due to oil dissipation in between sensor and its position clamp. once the oil is cleaned, the sensor will work very fine. Gear sensor is located above the front chain sprocket and secured by two 8mm flange head screws

Thank you for your input about the Self Start. Have informed same to the asc many times and it seems they haven't done it. Today, I'm going to retune the Carb and check about the cold start. But Since the day 1 I am facing this issue.Originally posted by TarunSundar View PostCold start issues can be due to poor carb setting. In all 6 service, either asc has cleaned the gear sensors or changed it. But still after cleaning, the sensors doesn't work properly. So I have considered it as a common issue.

Re: TVS Apache RTR 200 4V Ownership Experience
i used to tune my carb by myself by the following steps.Originally posted by imashish2789 View PostOk Thanks.
carb should be tuned once the engine warmed.. if your engine is cold, drive for 5-10 mins and you can tune it..
1) increase the idling upto 5k RPM.
2) Close the Air/Fuel screw by rotating the screw. once you start closing the screw, you can note that the engine sound will be reduced and RPM will be reduced. (you can note the number of turns if needed to restore the setting)
3) Now open the Air/Fuel screw, as you open the screw, the engine sound and RPM will gradually increase. after few turns, all of a sudden again the sound and RPM will decrease.
4) Now your concern is to find a sweet spot for your engine by turning the screw. (It'll be mostly anywhere between 3 to 4 turns of Air/Fuel screw.) where it gets high RPM and Engine sound.

In all 6 service, either asc has cleaned the gear sensors or changed it. But still after cleaning, the sensors doesn't work properly. So I have considered it as a common issue.
Sometimes due to reckless job from service centre can be the issue.. i had very worst experience with honda service where i asked them to replace the engine oil. But they didn't changed and they included in Itemized bill. After few kilometer i realized that my gear where very sluggish and opened the dip stick and checked the engine oil then i found out it wasn't replaced. I took my bike to honda again got it replaced.
kinda same happened for my RTR. My gear sensor was glitchy where it was fluctuating in Neutral. So approached a TVS service nearby (not the service centre where i purchased my bike). They cleaned the sensor and was fine for about a week. After a week again same issue started to show up. Now i approached my ASC, where the found out that the screws were loosen. After tighten them up it was fixed. Its been 6 months still it's fine.
These kind of things we can done by ourself if we have 30 mins of time. It'll be so satisfying where we fix things for our bike. Unfortunately, we are so busy and our free times are completely spent for resting.

Re: TVS Apache RTR 200 4V Ownership Experience
Hello everyone, I ride a 2018 BS4 Apache 200 RTR (carb) and from the last month, I have been noticing that the bike is struggling to reach 85 or 90 kmph.. It seems that the bike is putting in a lot more effort than it used to for reaching gear change speeds.
Is this an issue with the air filter or engine oil? I have only completed 3500 kms so far with 2 services. Oil was changed only on the 1st service. The service guy said that the oil can be changed on the 3rd service since it can last until I do 4500 kms.
I don't see any indication for service on my console either.
What could be the issue? Can you pl point me in the right direction?---

Re: TVS Apache RTR 200 4V Ownership Experience
Usually the TVS oil is good for 4-4.5k. During 2nd service, asc do only the fillup. Take out the oil level dipstick and check if the oil level up to the flat panel of the dipstick. Also check the oil color. If the oil is low or too black, engine would be dissipating more heat and you'll feel in your legs and engine would be sluggish.Originally posted by sansubr View PostHello everyone, I ride a 2018 BS4 Apache 200 RTR (carb) and from the last month, I have been noticing that the bike is struggling to reach 85 or 90 kmph.. While checking the oil level, dont try this when the engine is hot.
