re: Aprilia SR 150 Owners Reviews and Experiences

Regarding the braking, we are supposed to use 60% front and 40% rear. Front Brake bite has improved now. Brake pads need to bed in initially. Now the braking at the front end is immense.

      My Aprilia SR 150

      Hi all.

Well, It all began, in june 2016, My Apache RTR 180's insurance renewal was due to be renewed, it had been SIX pleasure filled years riding this bike. So, I decided it was time to bid adieu to it.

This time, I wanted a more matured bike, better tuned in terms of suspension, engine and braking on par with APACHE RTR 180(Trust ME, there isnt another bike in the market till date, with braking tuned as well as it is done in any apache, progressive but ultimate on dot stopper!). I am an automobile and DIY enthusiast!, and for me the priority was always, substance over form!, that pretty much explains my choices etc,...

      So, I short listed,
#1 suzuki gixxer(pretty new in the market, slightly refined over all other bikes in the market in 150cc segment),
#2 Yamaha FZ16(time tested, excellent stability and control)
#3 last but not the least, Honda cbr 250R ABS(this thing is a compromise for me, as it has a very vague suspension setup, combined braking system, and only good part being the rev happy engine.)

I dint even consider other bikes in the market, because they were either lacking in stability, had poor suspension, poor brakes, riding stance wasn't to my liking or bad engines.

Now out of the blue comes the news about Aprilia launching their scooter... I was little surprised and had a little dilemma, but decided to wait for more news.

June passed, july passed, come august, there were spy shots, online video reviews of the scooter, and bang I see this video!!!.

Thats it! I was sold on the scooter!

I am a strong believer, that, any vehicle should have this!
"Stability, Power and Braking of any vehicle should be in a correct balance right from the conception/designing till manufactured/road tested by the maker!."

From the video, for the first time ever in India, there is going to be an actual launch of a track-ready scooter for the consumer market!. I had ridden RTR, FZs, gixxers, karizmas, R15s, Dukes, Ninjas .. etc,... BUT a Cross-Breed Scooter, now my mind pondering, making its own assumptions, calculations, based on the video... phew, I was all fixed to test ride one and then take the final call between this and the Gixxer 150.

Now, came the AUG the 22nd!. I went to the show room, in Himayathnagar Hyderabad, and was politely told by the SA there is no test-ride scooter yet! Hmm... my excitement took a slight set back, aah I thought no biggie, waited for weeks whats a couple of more...

Four days later, some one on my whatsapp group said there is one available for test ride in the begumpet Vespa/Aprilia showroom, I was all excited like a child getting to ride his first two wheeler!. The very next day, I visited, test rode,I really was lucky to get to test ride this scooter in the heavy rain destroyed roads of Hyderabad.

Well, guess what, I had a grin plastered to my face by the time I finished, and a scary/annoyed look on the SA who was my pillion! my sympathies to him!. I rode this scooter in the broken roads, water laden roads, and did test the way this bike articulated during its pick up! never did I hit above 50kmph on this scooter, the way this scooter held itself up during the test ride was reason enough to convince me to buy it!

I dont really know how, aam junta decide whether if they want a scooter or a vehicle, but for me, more than power, the articulation of power delivery, stability and braking balance matter a lot more than other aspects. This scooter had it all! and damn this is a SCOOTER!!!.....
Things like, cost, power(ex.engine cc,bhp), resale value, mileage, A.S.S, etc was out of my head, after all I was just blown away!

Hmm... now it was 7th OCT the D-DAY!!!

I did my prior preparations of the paperwork, preparing the SA, and set up the PDI too. The delivery went smoothly and My baby Aprilia SR 150 arrived!

      .

      Now lets Jump to today!.
Its been 10 days Since I took the delivery of this scooter, I completed 300kms on this scooter so far.

Here are my version of pros & cons and impressions so far on the ownership of this scooter!:-

      Pros first!:-
#1. This fits into the my image of dream scooter, like a hand in glove! The test ride impressions and above description of what I expect from a machine from above explains that amply.
#2. Its a 150cc scooter, with a well articulated and calibrated/tuned engine gearbox combination.
#3. My first tank full and mileage was 41KMPL. This is tank to tank method. From my experience this increases after first service. Complete win-win!
#4. I chose a scooter over a bike, reason being, it did all that a well engineered bike like Gixxer/FZ-16 can do and more, from chore filled grocery trips to short weekend get aways are a breeze on this scooter. This scooter can do 70-80kmph all day without breaking a sweat!. Once again thanks to the suspension, large wheels and potent 3VALVE engine!.
#5. The just right form factor, just as wide as a vespa or a scooty PEP+, riding in traffic is a breeze.
#6. Takes all those pot holes well for sure - Now, now, I know this is debatable, but let me explain! what others see as a stiff suspension, I see it as same hard suspension found on ninja or another track tool that keeps me stable while going through them broken roads. Before any one wants to complain, try taking the same broken roads back to back with any other scooter in the market or any commuter bike, and you will experience why I write this in the pro section.
#7. Euro car like suspension, doesnt sway much, but absorbs the undulations on the road aplomb(unlike laterally swinging Jap cars ). My lower back is thanking me for not choosing activa or a similar commuter scooter or a bike. The stiffer suspension meaning there is lesser to non existent lateral swing action, slight dis-comfort in the beginning, but nothing one cannot get used to.
#8. under seat usb charger from factory!
#9. Firm seats just the right kind suited for long trips, butt and spine stay put, no jarring lateral swing!.
#10. Helmet can be locked to the rear grab rail inspite of being a split one, there are gaps in it for the same I guess, such an awesome convenience.

There are a ton more of smaller ones, like dual head lamps, styling etc,... I am not penning down now dont matter that much to me as of now or I dont remember at the moment.

      Cons:-

#1. foot area is slightly cramped, but not a deal breaker.
#2. underseat storage is next to nil, doesnt matter to me though.
#3. I not tall, slight inconvenience given its higher seating position, BUT, I am a DIY guy, I am getting a custom seat height made not a problem. any one can get this done from any of the local seat cover stitching shops they can skim the foam a little to suit you height.

cant think of any more of them.

      IMPORTANT INFO on this scooter:-

This is one of a kind scooter in our market. There is a reason for showcasing such LOVE on this machine! and the machine deserves every bit of it!.

First, understand something, Hard suspension is one thing, and optimised suspension to keep the vehicle well planted on the road and in a towed line in all situations is totally another. So, dont be intimidated or disheartened by the test ride of slightly stiff suspension setup. (Again check that video from above, look at that guy take corners.)

For those who complain about suspension stiffness on this scooter, please do back to back rides with other scooters in the market, I have sadly had to go over half-feet potholes or mini craters on our roads at speeds of 60+kmph. This scooter maintained its composure in a straight line, dint have a fish tailing rear or any un-expected sudden behavior.

Now, try the same with conventional scooter in the market!, or even most commuter bikes, I am very sure, you would lose balance and control of you two wheeler.

Us bike and car enthusiasts often buy, beefier and sturdier suspension for their vehicles for this reason alone, the composure is maintained when it matters MOST!. This is provided by manufacturer on a consumer scooter not a track specific scooter. After all power isnt everything, it matters how that power is utilized==safety.

The very reason for writing this review is, I havent found one honest, genuine review online so far, that describes how passionately this scooter is built or its character. It would be such a shame to see an awesome scooter get bad mouthed or mis-judged for its slightly stiffer suspension setup(stiff only at dead slow speeds, slight niggle one gets used to this), which is actually meant for safety. It would be really sad to see such a Beautiful (substance) Beast fit for all ages alike, gets passed off as racer toy alone or as likes of ninja~dukes etc.

The front does not have any travel. You pump you brake; no gap in between. No progression. For a 60kmph speed it kills speed pretty quick and fine but at slow speeds it simply halts the vehicle.. Nothing that can bother but that is how it behaves... I have had pretty good run of over 1Lakh kms on R15 and Karizma before. Its just that the bike is tuned differently.

Same with the suspensions. They have almost not taken into account the Indian roads. This thing glides on a well laid tarmac but put it on bad roads and your wheels jumps all over. Have to be extra vigilant with the grips.

@cybusiness2 I dont feel much can be done by the company for my case. But i will raise it. Hope it is taken up as a feedback. I plan to get radium stickering to replicate the original for footboard.

First congrats on the new scooter!. Got mine too recently.

Dude, you need to lower your tyre pressure, that 29psi front and 30psi rear is the culprit!.

I am running 24psi front and 25psi but nitrogen, and the ride isnt hard after that. Do try it, there is a world of difference. But please dont run those psi in the tyres with normal air.

re: Aprilia SR 150 Owners Reviews and Experiences

              Hi,

dear moderators, I was under the impression I would get my own separate thread for my Ownership review of my scooter!, like in Teambhp and other forums, why is review pasted in the same thread as another!?

I seriously doubt, if people would find these useful posts at all, I wouldnt expect me or any one to search or read through entire thread of hundreds of pages to find a good info, there would be more of thank you messages or other comments. What happened to the XBHP I knew? Post losing the servers and relaunch such drastic change?

and for my sake please explain, as to how I can rotate my scooter's images to appear correctly!.

              Edit:-

I am a quiet old member of this forum too, along with team-bhp and others since 2005!.

At the least some one please, correct the thread title to "Aprilia SR 150 Ownership reviews of all members". The title is very MIS-LEADING!. This isnt one person's ownership review nor is the scooter meant for just track days alone!!!

re: Aprilia SR 150 Owners Reviews and Experiences

                Hi All,

Finally my Black Aprilia SR 150 got delivered from Motoplex Chennai yesterday and now Iam the proud owner of an APRILIA .

My First Impression on a long 20kms ride for 1Hr in Traffic is that it proved to be better in handling rugged roads and both holes better than Activas and Other Scooters. Lots of people were staring at my bike even in the night and eagerly trying to find out what bike is it

I have also booked for lots of accessories and what is got was a side stand and a saree guard. They confirmed that all other accessories will be delivered during my First Service.

One information I got to know from the Showroom is that these two were the initial planned accessories to be provided with the bike during launch along with helmets and basis they have produced it. However when the booking started the customers across India did put on lots of questions about the accessories like Ladies foot rest. Floor Mat. Mobile Charger etc. to use it also as a utility. Only after that they PVPL started producing and buying for suppliers. Hence these accessories were not even supplied after the 2nd batch of vehicles were also landed.

I can wait for rest other accessories till my first service. But I was in a need for one basic accessory - Floor mat keeping in mind they i would keep my shoes up and down in the rugged traffic roads which would make lots of wear and tear on the floor board without a mat particularly during the upcoming monsoon season . Hence I though I could try to search i find a floor mat which would suit for Aprilia SR 150. I went to G.P Road in Chennai when I can get all the automobile accessories and asked the shop to provide me a compatible mat for my SR 150. He has provided few mat to get a idea about the shape of the mat and I have rejected many mats of Activa, Jupiter, Maestro, Scooty etc. as these mats are not even getting fixed in the Front . Finally I tried one with TVS WEGO which best suited the SR 150 but with little cut downs. Finally I got a Floor Mat of my SR 150 for RS. 150

Will provide further reviews next week.

                    Hi Aprilia enthusiasts !

Hope you are having good time with your rides..

This gonna be my first Post on Xbhp, so I will try to be honest

Would like to begin with feedback of My Aprilia after first 250kms ...

1: I never succeeded in kick starting it without a choke in the morning . for rest of the day I use self start.
                    2: 30+mins rides are painful.
3: During first few days I find some droplets of water coming out somewhere from the main stand area.
                    4: I got average of 35km approx.
5: It is very easy to put it on main stand.
6: After two days of ride I noticed that the focus of high beam was as if it was set to low beam. Low beam focus was almost on nearby front tire. It seems it has to be readjusted in first service. It also mentioned in service book. this is something news to me.
7: Its fun to drive as long as you limit your ride to 30-35 minutes.

                    Thanks .

The battery needs to be changed. Cause the electrical work on a three phase system. And most exide wet cells face such problems specially after the monsoons. Claim under warranty.

Water droplets occur due to condensation exhaust from the battery. It can be corrosive.... Hence the outlet from the battery leads all the way towards the ground.

Headlamps of most bikes are kept at an optimal angle because depending on weight and height.... The bike can tilt on its front shocks and change the angle. So adjustments can be made during the first service.

Regarding long rides.... They get comfy after 3 weeks. But that depends on the roads u ride on. The ride will be stable... Not springy. Riding posture should be straight and not slouchy as on other Scooters.

Mileage was never advertised by the company..... So nothing to complain about.

                      PS.... Welcome to the family

Hope , it gets little gentle with the passage of time ..

re: Aprilia SR 150 Owners Reviews and Experiences

So I picked up my Aprilia SR150 couple of weeks back. Have done about 200kms on it so far. Everyone has posted pictures, so I wont, sorry about that. After 2 weeks, things I noticed...

                            1. (Not using a scale but my feet) the shell of the bike is almost the same size as the scooty pep. It's just that the tires are sticking out at both ends, making it longer. Also, the handlebars are higher than of the scooty, so its comfortable for the knees. Otherwise, its the same size.
                            2. During morning starts, and starts after long resting periods, the scooter will stall. Once the engine warms up, it stays fine. The delivery person did say, do morning starts with the choke pulled out.
                            3. Theres no space, You can keep like 1 large magazine, or 1kg potatoes, or about 50 aluminum foil food containers in the boot. No more.
                            4. Aprilia Goa has not bothered supplying anything with the bike. So far, no mats and no side stands.
                            5. I have no idea about the mileage, but I am sure it isn't amazing. Definitely not the kind of mileage the TVS Jupiter claimed. Definitely not.
                            6. Lots of people honk behind you, chase you down, and then ask about the mileage. Why? Who would one buy a performance scooter for it's mileage?
                            7. Its loud. Not like an inline 4 motorcycle hum loud, but more of a put-put, really fast and loud.
                            8. Lights are useless, cones are narrow, and factory aiming is Italian, not necessarily productive. To readjust, simply turn some screws (says the manual), but no information about the big panel that needs to be opened to access the screws.
                            9. Handling is very good. Tires are equally good. None of those thuds you feel on activas when you hit a bump. Pillion comfort is decent as well, although if you're tall, there's not much space for 2 people.
                            10. This is not a goods carrier scooter. Like my friend said "not a scooter to get your cylinder." He makes sense. It isnt. Although you can put one small bag of tomatoes on the hook.
                            11. Passing light is a good feature, I use it a lot.
                            12. College kids get complex (Especially those with weird hairdo, shades, wear polka dot shirts, and their bikes have no mirrors), they will cut you off and ride fast past you.
                            13. When switching to high beam, the low beam turns off. Both stay on only when the passing light is used. They are 35W bulbs, so its just a regulation, don't expect any light. But everything is DC, so rolling down a road, it wont turn into a candle. It stays at 35W.
                            14. Appreciated the build quality. They have bothered with attention to detail. The exhaust is nicely galvanized. But there is no mount for front number plate. And I think its a regulation that number plate mounts should be present on the bike. But Italians don't care. I was not supplied with empty rear number plate either. I enquired, they said not given. So I made them put 2 pages with my bike number stuck front an rear. for Rs. 77152/- on road, I got just the bike, thats it.
                            15. Speedo cluster has numbers written in Kph as well as Mph. I don't think this bike is sold anywhere else. Maybe future proofing.
                            16. Keys don't turn properly, or refuse to come out of the keyhole (I know I'm nitpicking, but then I haven't had such issues with other scooters, hence).
                            17. The bike on the main stand does not sit high up and the stand is almost vertical, a slight push can get it off the stand.
                            18. Very good motor. Managed to hit 95 (speedo indicated) on a small straight stretch. Didn't feel it was strained. with 2 people on it, it struggled to pick up speed. But that was expected.
                            19. Good disc. Brushes off speed quite quickly. Rear drum felt very weak. Not even half the braking power of the disc.
                            20. No one knows what the true power output it. It's either 11.5, or 10.5 or 10.04. Depending on what you're reading.

Overall, I'm happy. It's a good little scooter for small city runs. One of those get on, start and go machines. Happy with my decision to pick that up.
