Isn't 8100 a 4 wheeler oil?Originally posted by Pinak-the stunner View PostThere are many available on Amazon. Motul 8100 is my favorite. I have bought a 5 lit can from Amazon which costed me less than 500/- for 700 ml. Can be used 7 times. That's total 35000 km.Ride responsibly. You only have one life!

Yes. In a scooter, the gearbox has its own oil and there is only a dry centrifugal clutch inside the CVT case. The engine oil only needs to lube the valve rockers, cylinder piston, crankshaft and cam chain. So a car oil with anti-friction additives can be used as long as it meets the API and viscosity recommendations of the manufacturer.Originally posted by fernsruben View PostIsn't 8100 a 4 wheeler oil?

Re: Aprilia SR 150 Owners Reviews and Experiences
The Agip 5w40 Semi Synthetic was the factory recommend stock. Now they use Castrol 20w40 Fully Synthetic. Lasts longer, higher drain intervals. 6k kms was the recommended drain interval for the former, 7-8k for the latter as informed to me by the svc (and the regional mgr.).Originally posted by Minisoda View PostGuys, how long does the stock oil last?
Not the 5w40 they put now, the one before that. I have it in my SR for about 2000km so I'm wondering if I should change?

Is this 20w40 FS available in the market or is supplied to Aprilia by Castrol?Originally posted by fernsruben View PostThe Agip 5w40 Semi Synthetic was the factory recommend stock. Supplied to aprilia by Castrol due to an MOU. However, available freely in the market. If you want to buy it outside your svc, go for a 5w40 or 10w40.Originally posted by ashwanth.r View PostIs this 20w40 FS available in the market or is supplied to Aprilia by Castrol?
The 20w40 doesn't really perform well in monsoons and slight low temperatures. Bit sluggish on the engine too. However, tappet noise seems to have been decreased.Ride responsibly. You only have one life!

I definitely feel it to be more sluggish from standstill with 20w40 and a pain with a pillion, which wasn't the case before.Originally posted by fernsruben View PostSupplied to aprilia by Castrol due to an MOU. Agree. Its thicker after all. That's the cheapest means piaggio could conjure to sort out tappet noise issues. However, it's a cost cutting strategy. Agip was falling expensive. And 20w40 is cheaper than Castrol's 5w40. Plus, oil drain intervals are longer. So a means to tell customers that they don't have to pay more in a short period.Originally posted by jermm_83 View PostI definitely feel it to be more sluggish from standstill with 20w40 and a pain with a pillion, which wasn't the case before.
The funny thing is the explanation the regional area manager gives for using 20w40. Talks about solving cold start and all, bs.Ride responsibly. You only have one life!

I absolutely agree with the above sentiments. Gonna try the the motul 8100 next month at svc, hopefully they allow the oil from outsideOriginally posted by fernsruben View PostAgree. They should, and neither will it void the warranty as it's the factory recommend grade as per the manual. Just make sure to mention to them not to top up or change oil without your permission. Might end up mixing oils and screwing up your engine.Originally posted by jermm_83 View PostI absolutely agree with the above sentiments. I've gone for Motul 7100 10w40 with Ester. The 5w40 brings back the dreaded tappet noise. Kinda found that the 10w40 is a sweet spot. As the original 5w40 was semi synthetic. And the oil I'm using now is fully synth.
The 8100 should be good. Others in the forum can vouch for it's performance. So, tried and tested.Ride responsibly. You only have one life!
