re: Aprilia SR 150 Owners Reviews and Experiences

For the people who haven't taken the delivery yet - please don't buy this bike. I took the delivery on 15th October and the engine seized in just 260kms. Hopeless response from the svc. It's been 2 days now and they are still yet to figure out what to do. I have blasted the regional manager and even he seems to be in a helpless situation. My sincere advice would be to buy something from Honda or suzuki.

What were the symptoms? What speeds were you doing?

Did you check the engine oil level? Was it normal?

        Hi Again !!

I got only side stand. Nothing else.

Note to All : If you are buying this bike in the other city than the one in which you want to get it register , than make sure you have Aprilia/vespa dealer in the city of registration. Other wise you will find very hard time to trace your chasis no on Form 20 as to trace this the bike requires to be dismantled !! Or do get you chasis no traced on form 20 at the dealer place itself. You would be lucky if local RTO is in good mood !!

        Thanks !

So I picked up my Aprilia SR150 couple of weeks back. Have done about 200kms on it so far. Everyone has posted pictures, so I wont, sorry about that. After 2 weeks, things I noticed...

          1. (Not using a scale but my feet) the shell of the bike is almost the same size as the scooty pep. It's just that the tires are sticking out at both ends, making it longer. Also, the handlebars are higher than of the scooty, so its comfortable for the knees. Otherwise, its the same size.
          2. During morning starts, and starts after long resting periods, the scooter will stall. Once the engine warms up, it stays fine. The delivery person did say, do morning starts with the choke pulled out.
          3. Theres no space, You can keep like 1 large magazine, or 1kg potatoes, or about 50 aluminum foil food containers in the boot. No more.
          4. Aprilia Goa has not bothered supplying anything with the bike. So far, no mats and no side stands.
          5. I have no idea about the mileage, but I am sure it isn't amazing. Definitely not the kind of mileage the TVS Jupiter claimed. Definitely not.
          6. Lots of people honk behind you, chase you down, and then ask about the mileage. Why? Who would one buy a performance scooter for it's mileage?
          7. Its loud. Not like an inline 4 motorcycle hum loud, but more of a put-put, really fast and loud.
          8. Lights are useless, cones are narrow, and factory aiming is Italian, not necessarily productive. To readjust, simply turn some screws (says the manual), but no information about the big panel that needs to be opened to access the screws.
          9. Handling is very good. Tires are equally good. None of those thuds you feel on activas when you hit a bump. Pillion comfort is decent as well, although if you're tall, there's not much space for 2 people.
          10. This is not a goods carrier scooter. Like my friend said "not a scooter to get your cylinder." He makes sense. It isnt. Although you can put one small bag of tomatoes on the hook.
          11. Passing light is a good feature, I use it a lot.
          12. College kids get complex (Especially those with weird hairdo, shades, wear polka dot shirts, and their bikes have no mirrors), they will cut you off and ride fast past you.
          13. When switching to high beam, the low beam turns off. Both stay on only when the passing light is used. They are 35W bulbs, so its just a regulation, don't expect any light. But everything is DC, so rolling down a road, it wont turn into a candle. It stays at 35W.
          14. Appreciated the build quality. They have bothered with attention to detail. The exhaust is nicely galvanized. But there is no mount for front number plate. And I think its a regulation that number plate mounts should be present on the bike. But Italians don't care. I was not supplied with empty rear number plate either. I enquired, they said not given. So I made them put 2 pages with my bike number stuck front an rear. for Rs. 77152/- on road, I got just the bike, thats it.
          15. Speedo cluster has numbers written in Kph as well as Mph. I don't think this bike is sold anywhere else. Maybe future proofing.
          16. Keys don't turn properly, or refuse to come out of the keyhole (I know I'm nitpicking, but then I haven't had such issues with other scooters, hence).
          17. The bike on the main stand does not sit high up and the stand is almost vertical, a slight push can get it off the stand.
          18. Very good motor. Managed to hit 95 (speedo indicated) on a small straight stretch. Didn't feel it was strained. with 2 people on it, it struggled to pick up speed. But that was expected.
          19. Good disc. Brushes off speed quite quickly. Rear drum felt very weak. Not even half the braking power of the disc.
          20. No one knows what the true power output it. It's either 11.5, or 10.5 or 10.04. Depending on what you're reading.

Overall, I'm happy. It's a good little scooter for small city runs. One of those get on, start and go machines. Happy with my decision to pick that up.
          Haha... Well reviewed ...

BTW... Where did u buy yours from.... KV... Veljee or Quadros?

            Aprilia SR 150 - Performance Loaded !

Was riding it at 30kmph and heard weird noise from the engine. Engine died in no time. I immediately knew that the engine was seized. It was further confirmed by the regional manager that the engine was seized. Engine oil was present in sufficient quantity.
I had been the the svc to check on my scooter and found that I am not the only person with a major problem. I found another sr150 with all the engine internals opened up. The service people refused to let out any details regarding that. I suspect another engine seizure. Guys, this is just a word of caution - if you haven't taken the delivery yet, just back out.

              How many kms done?

I am sure you cannot deduce that the product is bad with just one bad example. This engine has been doing duty in the Vespa for ages and this is not an entirely new engine as well.

Anyway hope your vehicle is back on the road soon, keep us posted!

re: Aprilia SR 150 Owners Reviews and Experiences

Although SR150 runs on the same engine as the VXL/SXL 150 but in a different tune. On the xbhp news thread when SR150 was launched somebody did mention that the SR150 was never caught testing and raised concerns whether it was properly tested or not before launching. Even though I have cancelled my booking, I genuinely wanted SR to succeed in Indian market so that other manufacturers follow suit and launch their moto scoots and maxi scoots, but for that I guess Aprilia has to address few quality issues popping up.

260kms on the odo before the seizure. They are getting an entire new engine from the factory.
Truth of the matter is that this scooter was never tested enough in real world conditions. Else the suspension settings wouldn't have been bone jarring. I also have a feeling that the cone set will be ruined soon because of the hard suspension. The throttle unit is very flimsy and feels like it's about to fall off anytime.
I donno how, but I see that the fuel efficiency of SR is better than vespa 125s. I've been given a vespa 125 as a standby vehicle to my sr issue is resolved and this thing just sips petrol like crazy. But the initial torque and pull from the old access125 and vespa125 is way better than sr150.

From a fellow SR150 owner to you, So, sorry to hear that NinjaAssasin, I sincerely hope you get a engine replacement and it runs trouble free. Do post some pics and/or videos, for us fellow owners.

An update and reasoning behind the seized engine would be well appreciated by us all, if there is any preventive measure to be followed, we would love to learn them.

I have successfully completed 350kms and its been 20days since my delivery, did the running in, in the variable speeds and situations method. My scooter so far has set-in properly, both the engine and the suspension.

I am running 24psi in the front and 26psi rear, Nitrogen ofcourse. I am pretty happy with its performance so far so good.

I am sincerely hoping this to be an isolated bad case, and not affected to all scooters. And my sympathies once again, I do wish you get back to happy scootering experience again.

I got a detailed report from them. Engine seizure was due to debris in the engine oil which blocked the oil filter completely. I saw the affected oil filter and it was totally clogged. Oil didn't reach the engine at all. Factory had filled dirty oil into the engine. Now they have placed an order to the factory to produce a new engine with the same engine number. New engine will be here by Nov 2nd week and they have promised to unpack it in front of me. Meanwhile I can use my sr which has been repaired with new engine internals. I'm going now to collect my sr. Will ride it at variable speeds and look for difference.

Again the engine seized. This time the sound from the engine was twice as loud. Just after 10kms of riding. I had to push the vehicle to the nearest mall and park it. 11pm and I've had to do such things. I'm going to take legal action against them now. I'm demanding a refund.

Make sure you ride below 70. Avoid riding at constant speeds. Vary your speeds... Slow and fast....

Secondly.... Use kick to cold start your bike...

Handle turns with a curvature..... And avoid raising the throttle whilst the brake is pressed.

Also.... Try not to blip the throttle.
