        • Re: Aprilia SR 150 Owners Reviews and Experiences

          Hi friends,

I have been using SR150 for more than one year now. It has clocked more than 12000 km now. I am writing this post for people who are confused since lots of issues are discussed here.

I didn't have driving licence or any driving skills till I bought SR150. In city like Pune it becomes essential to have a two wheeler. So I had to buy a scooter as a convenience vehicle as my wife can also use it. She insisted checking many other options but I just wanted to have same model. Test ride I took was sitting on pillion and showroom manager riding it. It was the sound which I loved. Once I had delivery I learned it slowly in 2/3 months as time permitted.
Scooter is fast, I mean real fast, it will give you performance you ask for and ask back try me for more. Just in a month's time I was cornering the roads, Mann what a joy it is when it tilts, with such a stable and firm grip on road. I did couple of Pune Mumbai trips on it, and it was wonderful experience. I have been getting avg of 35kmpl constantly.
Issues are there with back suspension when you face potholes, best way is to control speed on such roads.
I did ride other scooters, wego has such a butter smooth suspension but when we drive it, linear acceleration takes fun out of it. Every time I get other scooter to rids, I realise how my sr150 is better.
I have been starting it daily by kick in morning, it starts effortlessly. Service guys at auto Launge are helpful and do job perfectly.

So if you are confused, go test ride it, you will know whether it suits you. Don't worry of issues, just follow user manual and you will face none. Make sure of using moderate speed in initial 1k km, and engine will run better.

It's all on usage of scooter. It is a performance vehicle and made for highway. Try it otherwise and issues will come.

          Regards,
          Proud owner

            Hello,
I own SR150 Race. I am having issues with the battery. In the morning I usually cold start it using kick, It takes 4-5 kicks to starr sometimes but sometimes it starts in 1 kick. Then when during the day when I use the self start it doesn't work at all. I know that the battery is not good so I am thinking of changing it. Any suggestions for which one should I purchase?

I replaced my battery with Amaron Pro Rider battery which is a dry cell one. As of now there are no issues and surprisingly the performance of my SR has improved considerably. The throttle has become smoother and Vibrations are reduced.
                Thanks.

You dont need to purchase new battery. Just visit the exide battery service centre & they will check and replace the battery with a dry cell one. got mine changed few months back. why buy new when its still under warranty.

I was invited to visit the SVC the mail I dropped. @ fernsburen thank you

The person handling my case requested me to stay with them until all my source of dissatisfaction are sorted out. For that o was given a standard Aprilia SR150 that serves a test drive. I was asked to drive for 5km in order to point out any differences in comparison to my scooter. I did just so...

After the spin around the block, o came back and provided my feedback. Before that I enquired about the condition of the vehicle. As usual: "there is no single single problem with the scooter, in fact we feel it to be quite plush and comfortable in comparison to the test unit"

                    Here is my feedback:
                    - the test unit rode 8000km while mine is about 1900km. The response from the test unit is crisp, peppy and anticipating.

It's willing to please, ready to hit the 100 mark without shedding a singe sigh. And the exhaust note yes it was consistent throughout the spin. It remained the same, it didn't vanish nor did did it increase, just beautiful constant note that might not be as loud as what I got used to but was there and I liked it. At no time it sounded like an activa.

                    How my was feedback received?

" For your satisfaction we will swap the exhaust from the test unit to your scooter for you to test it for 2 days and come back to us...but we are ready to reply back saying that your vehicle is fine and there is no problem whatsoever..."

I replied that more than that we could take a ride together

I was ok with that. What do you guys think about this?

Hi this is Vinay from Bangalore. I have bought SR 150 race in August and facing similar issue with the exhaust note. strange and unusual noise from the engine.
Could you please provide me your contact number plz.

I had notified two issues in the first service,

                          • 'Tik Tik' noise in the rear wheel and
                          • Rear shock absorber mudguard issue

The second issue has been sorted out immediately by replacing with new one and the rear wheel no stock right now.

Please note guys, the SVC using Castrol 20W-40 , they said it is the company recommended oil. So no more 5W-40.

                          • My Aprilia SR150 Touring Race Edition

Aprilia Vehicles have always held me in amazement. Pure racing pedigree and Italian finesse exuding in each machine, it was time for me to add an Aprilia SR150 to my Piaggio collection.
I choose the SR150 Race Edition for its bright looks, Swanky Alloy wheels, Aprilia Racing-Italian themed decals and an augmented power in acceleration which came with it.

                            Ownership Starts
SR150 Race Edition is quintessentially a slightly different scooter built on racing lines, with Aprilia Motogp theme, higher acceleration and most importantly - A Race Boom Exhaust !!!
A taller stance and a lean body makes it an urban as well as motorway riding machine with ease.
A strong 154cc Engine, with 14"swanky alloy wheels, combined with Motogp inspired lines with front disk brake, make SR150 a pure urban racer in my opinion. Also coming to handy are storage space under the seat,
Storage hook, grab handles make SR150 purely utilitarian.

                            What I Liked

                            - Sporty Design.
                            - Bright Alloy Wheels.
                            - Race Boom louder Exhaust.
                            - Bybre Disc Brake (only front).
                            - Sporty Decals.
                            - Dual tone art leather seat.
                            - Affordable price in India as compared to other countries.
                            - Strong road presence and attracts attention.

                            What I didnot Like
                            - Smaller Seat and a slight Incline makes it uncomfortable for long rides.
                            - Lack of Combi breaking.
                            - Inadequate storage space under the seat.
                            - Sluggish cold start.
                            - Smaller Fuel Tank Capacity (5.5 Liters).
                            - Lack of digital speedo display
                            - Vee Rubber (Thai Make) hard compound tyres.

                            Ride Begins
I began the rides to my office roughly about 35kms (both ways) for 3 days and soon crossed 100km barrier. This Race Edition has a very good drag race style acceleration combined with brilliant braking both from Front and rear braking system. The absence of combi braking makes its presence felt, however !! I noticed a little heating of the engine, but also quick cooling, did not worry me much. I noticed quick ease over maneuvering curvy roads and U-turns and the handle bar position certainly makes it easier for a beautiful ride.

City rides call for visits to supermarket, and this is where I felt stark inadequacy in storage space under the seat as well as on the narrow floor board. There isn't simply any space, if you decide to place your helmet under the seat. This left me pondering...
I drove a good stretches of longer quieter roads to observe the wind movement and this also rather made me to ponder, how I will face gusty winds on a highway. Thankfully I haven't crossed 60km speed. Here comes a quick observation. The Speedo has both Kmph amd Mph markings, which makes a small confusion when you look at the speedo while riding.
Of Course, the combined speedo is meant to serve all markets around the world. Its a matter of adapting yourself until few rides and then it gets easier to know your speed.

                            Quality of Ride
Absolutely a delightful experience, when I compare with other CVT machines. SR150 being a lighter and narrower vehicle makes it even more easy to ride on a long stretch as well as mastering corners. So lets Ride on !!!

                            Braking Prowess
I describe braking power in 2 ways..A Brick through a Plate Glass or a Blow torch through butter. I was quite happy to see the later experience in SR150 though a combi braking would have been a extra wish granted !! Here I would like to add my grouse about the tyre composition. Aprilia Sr150 comes with a Thai make Tyres - Vee Rubber (www.veerubber.co.th), which are basically hard compund tyres which can iron out your ride. The only solution is to keep a lower psi of air in the tyre, or else the alloy wheel will take a hit sooner or later. Im right now searching for good tyres in Michelin or Pirelli for my SR150.
Bybre Disc Brake in the front works awesome and has superb stopping power

                            Acceleration
SR150 Race edition comes with a quick acceleration(drag race style) and with in seconds, the race boom exhaust kicks in, giving a flash like speed. An average 60-70kgs Adult will literally fly on this machine.

                            Seating Ergonomics
Aprilia SR150 is a tall boy machine and the seat is at a good height. To give a racing stance, Aprillia has designed the seat with a slight incline towards the front, hence when you brake, there is a forward movement in your body, leading to some discomfort.
SR150 is strictly for a single rider, IMHO, because the seat is so compact. Maybe a 10 year old can just fit in as a pillion rider,
but you need to check at regular intervals during the ride, if he/she has not fallen off..lol

                            Fuel Economics
My first 150 kms guzzled about 5 litres of fuel, giving a rough FE on 30kmpl.Having crossed 200km now and about 50km of riding on highway, FE should improve.

                            Ownership Delight
Definitely proud to own this Italian machine and would recommend to others to acquire one, if you want to purely own an Italian Brand and dont mind fuel being guzzled !!
But my assessment would be in the range of 35-40 kmpl maximum. Hence I would rate SR150 to be a gas guzzler in my opinion.

                            Touring Thoughts
Being an avid motorcycle rider, my thoughts extended towards making my SR150 a light Tourer, hence decided to create one immediately
The results have been outstanding after I added a GIVIsque Flyscreen and a Top Case. Now my SR150 Race edition can be called a "Touring Race Edition" !!!

Also, the dealership told that whoever booked it from the dealership will get it in first batch of 16 bikes arriving on 3rd Oct. While I received a call today from Aprilia (2nd call) to confirm that they are dispatching my bike and dealership will do rest of formalities. I will include this as well in my email to Aprilia.

Can some x-bhpians please help me get quotations from others parts of India.. I want to compare this RTO piece. Can't digest this 15k roadtax. It will be of great help. Even can you share the same for Pune.
I did contact the kolkata dealer few days back and they are quoting me 99K on-road in Kolkata for SR 150 Race edition, including 16K for registration purpose.

Just wondering how much did they charge for registation purpose or if thats the legal value they are charging. It will really helpful if you can guide me on this as i am planning to book the bike next week, after i reach to Kolkata as currently i am not in Kolkata.

Kolkata dealer says that registration charge is more as its a Italian bike, tried to explain them that its being manufactured in India itself, but not got any satisfactory answer. Thanks in advance
