I have got record high mileage of 37 this week. If one drives with acceleration perfect control, I think it can touch 40 too

Hello. I am new to the forum and first of all I want to thank you all as I am benefitted largely, as you guys shared your experiences in such a helpful manner.

I got my sr150 last Saturday from kolkata, from the only dealer Speed Auto. The vehicle is yet to get temporary registration as RTO office was closed for most of the past week. I took the vehicle with TC number. So couldn't ride much of it but pretty much enjoyed the first 100km ride until. Hope it gets better.

I got accessories like all-round guard, ladies foot rest and saree guard. No usb charger or floor mat. May be I would get them on first service.

Near about everything has been discussed but kindly can anyone provide me with some help about which disc lock to buy as I am looking for a suitable lock because my house being small one I have to keep the scoot outside and I am having sleepless night because of it. I am also thinking of traditional chain and lock system for rear wheel. Some are suggesting about alarm locks. Senior members please throw some light. Thanks in advance.

        Congrats on ur purchase!
Go for expensive disc looks ₹300-500+.?
Cheaper ones can be broken extremely easily...
Also buy a GPS Tracker put a sim in that (Jio is almost free) and hide it some where deep inside the vehicle making it hard to access...
The whole anittheft tracker is pretty affordable at couple of thousand rupees..
YouTube both these things...ull find a good solution...

        Hope this helps you!

Thanks for the help. Actually I decided to buy the ABUS solid cast metal disc lock online and there was an option to chose the vehicle. Problem is that aprilia sr 150 isn't listed. Can you or anybody else help me out here?

Guys that click from the rear wheel is getting more audible now and the brakes haven't been touched. Should I send an email to Piaggio?

While riding at higher speeds 80+ is everyone able to take their hands off the handle bars?are there any excess vibrations through the bars?I seem to be having quite a few front end vibrations at higher speeds which svc obviously cant diagnose being located in the heart of the city, so high speed is out of the question. Its worse when the hands are off the bars.

Just wanted to know if experts could weigh in here. Front wheel has been balanced with weights by a tuner outside(vibes still persist).

Can anyone lock the rear wheel with the brakes?

Are you're tires worn out or changed to the new design replacement?

And yes, the rear wheel can be locked if the lever is clenched too tight. Drum brakes don't have good haptic response, so you won't know untill the wheel suddenly locks.

I personally think theres an issue with those balancing weights on front wheels..?
Go to some another reputed tyre shop and check again

Not sure what the new design is but my bike was bought in may and has only run a 1000 kilometers and nothing has been replaced. I find it near impossible to lock the rear wheel doesn't seem to be enough stopping power from the rear for that purpose.

The vibes were there before the weights as well, also in Bangalore i was finding it hard to find people to balance two wheeler tyres. Most balancing acts are for cars.

Is your front wheel worn out? If so, then it'll be responsible for the wobbling. Or even an over tightened cone set. Could or possible that the SVC over tightened your cone set during one of the services.

The rear wheel shouldn't lock. Not advisable for any scooter because of the centre of gravity being laden at the rear. Learn to use a 60:40 braking pattern. The rear brake isn't to lock. That's the job of the front disc. The rear is merely to slow down and stabilize the vehicle at high speeds or control speeds whilst cruising.

Companies are tuning rear brakes on a lighter side to prevent wheel locking which is a major cause of most accidents in India due to illegitimate braking practices.

For engine vibes travelling up to the handle bar, tell them to adjust the tappets and tune the carb idle. It'll get much smoother.

Front wheel is reported to be fine.
Will check about the cone set.
The front does feel hard like it does more skipping than damping over undulations.

Does everyone have vibes running through the handle bar when bars are left at around 100? They are present to a degree when throttle is pinned but increase exponentially when throttle is shut(at 85-100). The vehicle tracks straight but there is some serious vibes on leaving the handlebar at that speed even on a smooth road.

Reporting a sad experience with my SR 150 while on the road 2 days back. Here it goes

3 months old SR150, done 1500 kms approx, completed the second service as per the manual.
I was riding at slightly spirited 80-90kmph on a state highway and suddenly I lost all power but the engine wasn't dead. Tried to twist the accelerator cable, no response. Slowly pulled over to the side with the help of available momentum. Engine was still running when I was at a complete halt. Gave it some accelerator and I could ride but only till I reach speeds of 15-20 kmph and then the throttle would not have any response beyond that while the SR keeps puttering. I let everything cool down for a few minutes, checked engine oil, opened up the petrol tank for air vacuum lock, used kick start etc. However, my SR was simply unable to cross 20kmph on plain roads. I decided to take it to the authorized SVC some 10 kms away at slow speeds. SR was doing slightly better with choke on but I didn't want to ride long with the choke so kept riding very slowly until the bike just gave up. It would crank & start, properly idle but just wouldn't get any momentum. Somehow managed to push the SR for 1 kms to the nearest FNG (since the authorized SVC was far away) for some quick diagnosis. The mechanic checked the usual suspects like spark plug, loose connections on carb, air filter etc but just no luck. He wanted to try some more advanced stuff but I refused to let him go deeper lest it creates a problem with the warranty.
Got the SR started again and rode at a sedate speed of 10 kmph until it shut down again on me, luckily in front of another bike garage. I was tired in the afternoon sun so asked the garage to just do an overall inspection without going in deep as the SR was already inspected by another mechanic. They tried a few things and narrowed it down to filter blocking. Cleaned it thoroughly, although there was negligible dust formation and the SR was back to life. I thanked them profusely and left.
It's been two days since and the SR is doing just fine. Knowing the horrible instances of engine seizures and other such concerns, it got me really worried in that 2 hour ordeal. Took it to SVC and the guys there say everything is fine now.

Also, the authorized SVC was unable to fix my simple rattling noise from front end during the last service, in fact after their tinkering with the entire front panel, the rattling noise has worsened. SVC manager says this is just the sound of speedo cable and they can't do anything about it. If anything, even the horn settings were screwed up and now it sounds puny(are there two horns ? If yes, I suspect one was removed). Have to try other SVC in mumbai for next service. Hope the stalling issue doesn't come up again till then.

Any idea what could be the reason for the sudden loss of power (besides the apparent air filter blockage) and the heavy rattles from the front end ?

Sad to hear about your experience with the vehicle.

The rattling noise is something we have to deal with for now. I've personally opened up the front and tried using zip ties and double sided foam tape to dampen vibrations and prevent the brake and Speedo cable from hitting the insides of the faring. Well, can't be done as the cables require a lot of free play and restricting them will reduce the noise but will also prevent them from moving and either restricting handle bar movement or damaging the cable itself.

With regards to the seizure, I would advice you to write a very polite but firm email to Piaggio. There seems to be an array of issues the series faces but the company is turning a blind back on us.

Though, do check if the air intake is free from any leaves or unwanted articles. The opening of the channel starts from the edge of the seat. In old models there is a wide opening which can be a menace if stuff goes in there. They rectified this by putting a wall from the inside on the panel about the lateral opening.

Do report back what the service guys have to say.

I really didn't knew that speedo cables can make such annoying sound. But glad to know that this is a known issue and not much can be done about it.
I spoke to the piaggio customer care who called after service to get my review, when I discussed these concerns, the representative simply said that if the SVC manager could not rectify the issue(rattling noise), company could not do anything.

Further, when discussed about the stalling engine, they just asked if the issue is still prevalent. I replied no, it got rectified somehow but what if the issue crops up again in the middle of nowhere ? They simply asked to get the vehicle to SVC for diagnostic.

Will seriously consider your advice to write an email to Piaggio if any more serious issues crop up. The problem is I don't have the evidence to prove that the engine was stalling and the issue cannot be easily replicated. But if something of this sort happens, I'd rather shoot a video somehow and mail across to piaggio.

Although mine is BSIV model, I'll check about the air intake as suggested. Thank you
