Today thought of cleaning and lubing the chain and started with removing the front sprocket cover. Only after removing it completely realized that it the bolts was for the engine case too [emoji33].
Will this cause leaks from the engine case ?

And also used while cleaning the front sprocket area with kerosene, some kerosene spilled over the left engine case . Will that damage the paint ?

After opening the front sprocket cover saw there were too much muck accumulated in it.

Please suggest some good practices while cleaning the chain and front sprocket. I don't thing opening the front sprocket cover is a good idea since the same.bolts are used for engine case too.

    Thanks in advance [emoji106]

Indeed, one of the bolts for the sprocket cover acts as magneto cover primary bolt. In some cases, you might observe mild oil leak when removing the bolt, which is also normal. Mild kerosene won't affect the paint characteristics negatively, though an impact from a sharp object such as stones, nails and tools, will induce scratches, but solvents pretty much such as lamp oil (kerosene, diesel) are perfectly harmless.

Hard and fast rule for cleaning the sprocket cover is well, get ones hands dirty. Since the chain spins fast, the centrifugal force acting on the chain flings the lube over the front sprocket cover crevices, and over time get mucked up (the goop that you see inside the cover).

Bottomline, yes the sprocket bolt also acts as a primary bolt, but pretty much a harmless thing. Mark sure the right bolts go after they're removed and torqued right, else you will face oil leaking from the bolt threads.

      Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
      The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

Just saw your reply for the bolt sizes used in the front sprocket cover. Didn't know that. I think I have mixed it up while fitting them again.
Could you just let us know which bolt goes where in front sprocket cover ?

        Thanks in advance[emoji106]

I have applied screen protector. It is a custom matte transparent sticker, applied and then has been cut to the TFT shape.
Available in any local sticker shop.

I checked that bolts today. All three looked almost identical only one being thicker by a very small margin. Hope that is the one used for magneto cover.

And also today did a hard braking using the rear brake and it was too loud, like some small stone was stuck between the disc and the pads. Also the feedback on the rear brake lever was very high. The total feed back from the front brake setup seems better though .

Does the rear brake make these type of sounds during hard braking ? Click image for larger version

Check your rear brake pad for excess wear.

Very mild screeches are acceptable, due to dust accumulation. The bike shouldn't squeal or squeak when the brake is pressed hard. If you hear metal grinding or squeals when braked hard, it's a clear indication that the pad has worn beyond what is acceptable and is glazing on the backing plate. Cross check your brake pads with the image attached and observe for anything stuck in between the caliper. Give it a wash and observe.

                  • Help needed to correct my shifting problem

Shifting gear on my 2017 duke 390 was quite smooth for two month or so after I bought my bike but the problem that I am facing right now is really ruining my riding experience. I hear a awful bang sound when I upshift gear my motorcycle, mostly in lower gears. The same kind of sound can be heard when I downshift in certain gears too. This has really affected my confidence in riding, to a point where I am contemplating to quit riding. I have tried almost everything, but nothing really helped.

Before this problem cropped up I've never ever thought about shifting at all, it just happened naturally. Now I am putting too much effort into this and still the result is the same. I'm 100% sure that this is my problem because something about my shifting isnt right, I've tried riding other bikes and noticed the same bang sound while shifting into gears.

I am really worried about by bike and how bad this can do to my bikes transmission. I ready to start from square one but not sure how to. It would mean the world if some could help me out with this.

Get your chain adjusted to spec and also the clutch free play (preferably adjust it at the clutch case end rather than using the nut at the lever end), and also check if the gear lever/tie rod and the part that goes on the actual gear shift shaft are snug and not lose.
It might also help if you move the gear lever slightly upward (this can be done by adjusting the nuts on the tie rod)
The other mechanical problem that could cause gear shift issues is a worn/damaged shift shaft, i've seen it happen on certain ktm's but that is rare, this would cause the gear lever to get 'stuck' after a shift and not return to it's normal position after shifting.

Like I said in the original post and other reply, it's me and not the bike. Pretty sure that if someone else rides my bike they wouldn't feel anything odd with the bike. Its has something to do with the way I am shifting gear. I have asked this on several forums and sites to get solution to my problem and still it remains. If this problems goes on like this, I might have to contemplate quitting riding or buy a motorcycle with quikshifter (which won't happen anytime soon)

Again, the bike is completely fine. There is something wrong with the way I am shifting gear , that is definitely causing the said noise. I watched several videos on how to shift gear on motorcycle and the result is still the same. They simply tell the viewers to pull the clutch in completely, close the throttle and shift. I followed the instructions but no help. None of the videos warn about this except this video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A8n4EmhOBb8

Got the gaskets replaced from service center and I was riding today and then all of a sudden I felt like clutch cable is broken. I revv mathched and shifted to 1st and somehow reached home without stopping. Clutch cable is fine. It feels like something from the inside is disconnected. [emoji15]

Hi , Does anyone know from where i can get PUIG Windshield for duke 390 2018 model in India ?
Even at 100 windblast is there i can't imagine how much worst it can get after 120 kmph.

I used to the windshield on my old bike so i guess thats the reason i am feeling this.

                                Thanks.
