  • Re: 2017 Duke 390 Owners Reviews and Experiences

    Hello ,

Finally time has come for me to buy Duke 390 and Monday is the purchase date .
I have PDI checklist that i am going to follow while purchasing the vehicle . Apart from this I would like to know if there are any specific /important things to do while purchasing Duke 390 . Please let me know

This is my first motorcycle. I never owned one before but has decent amount of experience riding 125 cc -250 cc motorcycles. So thought of it a lot before deciding on Duke 390
Main reason for me to purchase Duke 390 is its design and features (I love TFT :P) it provides for the price, I test rode it twice and am comfortable with it.
Hence , decided to buy it.

Cant wait to own one .

    Any other suggestions are welcome..............

Meaning if the bike is sold . Then will the second owner get this warranty automaticallly Or the warranty applies only to the first customer

Only for the first owner. It's mentioned in the warranty certificate posted on other thread.

Thanks for sharing this information Chirag
Which means second owner cannot get the benefit ,
The warranty should be for the bike itself, since problem is with the bike . Don’t understand the reason and logic behind this.

Sadly, that is how it is in India especially with two wheelers. I remember earlier on ktm's india website itself they had mentioned warranty will be carried on to the subsequent owners.. but they have since removed that wording! A fellow xbhp member had once pm'd me and I had told him about this and he contacted ktm with this proof.. and infact ktm later contacted him and 'worked out' something .

What are the run-in speeds to be maintained for first 1000kms? As per manual it does say to restrict rpm upto 7500. But any info about the gear-wise speed limits? Like the ones we have in cars? I couldn't find anything in manual.

just follow whats in the manual i.e. 7500 rpm 'limit'. so try not to go over 7500rpm in each gear (going over it a few times isn't going to blow up the engine either).
if you want to play it safe stick to the recommendation and remember to never whack the throttle wide open on a cold engine.
And most importantly don't lug the engine.. i.e. riding at slow speeds in higher gears, this is more bad for engine life. shift at around 4500~5000 rpm.
A 390 will do well over 100kmph at 7500rpm in 6th.. and so you have sufficient 'speed' for most situations.

As a thumb rule, try not to exceed 80 KMPH on the max, but try not to ride excessively slowly. Stick to the manufacturer recommended RPM and the speed range I've posted at the highest gear, that is the sixth. The idea is to make the engine to go through a wide range of varying RPM, so the parts mesh in properly.

                        Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
                        The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

                        THE END

@All: Anything I should keep in mind during the break-in period other than the RPM restrictions?

                          Thanks,

Nice, love the white color scheme.

Stay off this forum for a few weeks lest you get some bad 'vibrations' from around here enjoy the bike with no presumptions or looking to nitpick.. ride it more and enjoy.

                              Hello guys,

Which feul is better in terms of mileage ?
Regular or Speed/premium ? Or regular with petrol additive ?
Or do we find difference only in terms of riding (smooth and good pickup etc)

How do you do the feulling usually ? Premium petrol or a mix of regular and premium ?

Stick to regular fuel, and maybe you an use an additive like Adon P or Iftex System G (available at some IOC or BP outlets respectively).
I use the additive myself and don't trust the premium (Additive based fuel) fuel from the petrol pumps, i prefer to mix it in myself.. and I use it around every other time i fill up. I doesn't cause any harm, and as for it's benefits you be the judge (on a new bike you may or may not notice a difference).. the difference being slightly better throttle response and supposedly a cleaner fuel system/less deposits.

Remember mileage mostly depends on how/where the bike is ridden, not on some fuel type.
