Congratulations. Good to see some action on this thread after almost few months. I was thinking of posting my experience too but was busy with other things. Re: Jawa & 42 Ownership Experience
My Jawa42 Ownership ExperienceHi all fellow mates, this is the first detailed post that I am sharing on any forum.
Thanks @nsm2285 for sharing a short experience of delivery of his Jawa. This has inspired me to sit and share my ownership experience with fellow Jawa-ians.
I will admit that I have no nostalgic value for Jawa as none of my close or distant relatives/friends and anyone I know, had never owned any Jawa motorcycle. But there is something magnetic about them. Every time (rarely), I came across that ding-ding sound from a laboriously maintained old Jawa, I could do nothing but admire it with awe.
Now coming to my story, after the launch of Jawas in November 2018 by CLPL, I instantly liked both, Jawa and 42. I decided to book one right then, but thought that I should at least get a glimpse of the bikes in person before booking. But that was not going to happen any time soon and the online booking period was on only till 25/12/2018, so finally I booked my Jawa 42 Comet Red on 24/12/2018 online.
Than came the horrible waiting period, as many of you might have experienced. Lack of proper communication from CLPL made it worst. This forum was the only way to share information and make a way out for our frustrations, as we all can read from the very first page of this thread. Meanwhile the first two Jawa showrooms were inaugurated in Pune and sometime in January 2019, I got the opportunity to see the bikes in person and also got a test ride a Jawa (classic). It was just mind-blowing. Look, I am not a diehard biker. The only bike that I owned previously was a Hero Honda Splendour+ for almost 10 years. So riding a 300cc, 175kg bike which was so easy to manoeuvre in city traffic, sealed my decision. About the looks, I will never forget that first sight of Jawa 42 Nebula Blue in the showroom, never…
Come July 2019, I got a call from the Dealer that I can get my 42 by the month end. Visited them the next day, got VIN and made complete payment. It took about a week for documentation and a few more days for registration and finally got delivery of my 42 (I have named it COMRED) on 4th of August 2019.
It was the time when Pune and most the Maharashtra faced heavy rains, didn’t got to ride much on the COMRED. So at the time of first servicing after 1 month, it had travelled only 125km. The rides before 1st service were not so smooth, I (or it) used to struggle on first and second gear. False neutrals, engine heat and hard seat were making it troublesome. But still it was fun in some way and I was only hoping that these problems will slow down gradually. Rear drum and front disc brakes did a good job. I had seen many owners sharing all these problems on social media along with one more major problem- Rusting. Fortunately my 42 didn’t show serious rusting but there were definitely some vulnerable rust spots, visible just within the 10-15 days of use.
Most of the issues are solved after the 1st service.
-Engine feels smoothened and happy even in lower gears, no knocking sound.
-Either the gears have refined or I am getting used to it, now I don’t have to downshift to 1st gear everytime I come across a speed breaker.
-Engine heat has been considerably reduced.
-Rusted portion of the exhaust pipes have been sprayed with antirust paint.
-Out of the 3 bolts (black in previous batches, chrome finished in new batches) near handle bar which showed signs of rusting, centre one has been replaced with new chrome finished and the other 2 will be replaced when the stock arrives at service centre.
To sum up my experience with the Bike:
What’s missing?
- Kick, I know I would have used it very rarely but still..
- Gear shift indicator, with 6 gears it was a must
- Tripmeter
- Tachometer
What I didn’t like?
- Though build quality is good, rusting of any part so early is not acceptable from a bike costing almost 2 lakh onroad.
- Though I am getting used to the hard seat, it would have been better with slightly more cushion. Its length is also insufficient for 2 people to sit comfortably for longer time.
- Fuel indicator is very unreliable.
What I liked?
- It’s a handsome looking bike. Every day, it gets at least a couple of new admirers.
- It feels refined with every passing day. Currently completed about 600km.
- I got the stock exhaust sound set to the loudest during 1st service. But its not loud enough and that’s what exactly I liked. Once the bike achieves about 30-40 kmph, the sound is music.
So this is my experience so far. Do share your feedback and your own experience with the Jawas…Last edited by J42; 10-13-2019, 08:11 PM.

Re: Jawa & 42 Ownership Experience
Guys,
I am on the verge of booking a Jawa. Confused between Jawa Classic and Jawa 42. After much ado I zeroed on Maroon/Blue for 42 and Maroon for Classic.
What I like
Jawa 42: Stance, Retro look, Nebula Blue is mouth watering, Front Mudguard, Offset Speedo Console.
Jawa Classic: Classic Looks, Looks more proportionate due to the Headlight (Rising Shape when looked from behind), Wires & Cables neatly tucked in.
What I don't Like
Jawa 42: Naked Wires & Cables not organized neatly, When looked from behind the tank rises but then suddenly the shape falls down due to headlight.
Jawa Classic: Speedometer visibility.
Guys help me out. Don't say it is personal choice. What will you buy Classic or 42? Any reasons for your Selection.
I am looking to book before Friday.
I have a plan of modifying the bike to a Scrambler look. Which is more easy Classic or 42? Help me out Guys!!!!!!

I'm also glad to hear that all the small niggles that you have faced in the bike has been fixed in the 1st service. I do face some of them:
False neutrals: I did face this for the first few days but not anymore.
Struggle in 1st and 2nd gear: I'm glad I'm not the only one that have noticed this. It's not very bothersome but yeah it is definitely there. Noticeable while riding in bumper to bumper traffic.
Hard Seat: I read somewhere that Jawa is planning to launch an official seat cover with some cushioning which can reduce this to a certain extent. I have no plans to get an aftermarket seat modification. Waiting for the official one to come out.
Engine Heat: I thought it was normal since the radiator fans vent the heat from the sides which hits our leg. If it got reduced after 1st service, awesome.
Bolts: Mine is the dual ABS variant which came with those chrome bolts.
Fuel Meter: It has it's own mind. I would be raising this in my 1st service.
Have few questions:
Is the low ground clearance affecting you? It's affecting me quite hard especially when there is a pillion riding. The center stand hits the ground when I hit some speed breakers (those poorly designed ones) or a deeper pothole. Not a major issue but they could have made it a bit higher.
Did you get the number plates? I got the delivery from Thane and the registration was done from Kalyan RTO since I stay in Ulhasnagar. I did get the SMS stating the number but the dealership is yet to receive the High Security Number Plates. If you got it, how did you get it installed? Was it secured using those anti tamper rivets or just the usual nut and bolt?

I am looking to book before Friday.
For example, I'd buy the 42 simply because I'm a Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy fan.
(Disclaimer: I cancelled my booking and got an Interceptor 650 because Classic Legends wasn't giving me any clarity on when I would get the bike)

Good that you have decided to book a Jawa.
I already have a 42 and I will prefer it over Classic anytime.
Have you test rode both? I would suggest ride them back to back on the same stretch of roads, for a reasonably long distance and then decide.
I booked 42 without even seeing it in person and took multiple test rides on Classic as 42 was not available for test ride whenever I visited the dealer. It was nice to ride but still I preferred 42.
Do update about which one you will book finally.

I will try to answer your questions:
1) Is the low ground clearance affecting you?
Not much because most of the times I ride without a pillion. But yeah with center stand its an issue.
2) Did you get the number plates? Yeah I got it after about 2 weeks from delivery. As informed by Dealer, HSNP takes some time to arrive as it is supplied from some vendor from Mumbai or Haryana. They have used rivets for the rear number plate over the original (factory fitted) one. But the front one is installed using nut and bolts.
Do check the exhaust's inner part for any signs of rust and if found any, inform the dealer immediately. Get it painted with anti rust paint from them.

Re: Jawa & 42 Ownership Experience
Friends, I have booked a Maroon Jawa Classic Dual ABS. Expected delivery in April 2020. Msy change to black if Black looks good.
I am informed that dual ABS deliveries will start from Jan 2020. Mine is a Tier 3 city.
Showroom receives 10 bikes per month(currently single channel ABS being delivered). My number is 106 in the showroom Booking list.
Had a close look at the batch of bikes received two days ago. Sept Manufactured bikes. They still have visible weld marks, some rough edges, unorganized wires and cables.
Jawa Classic looked proportionate to me. Somehow 42 when looked from behind or rear 3 quarters looks like the rising tank suddenly drops. Classic looks like rising from seat to tank to headlight. Completes the look.
The wait starts. Willing to wait for an year as well. Bought INTERCEPTOR a month back. Already have RR310 since last year. Both are Big bikes so need to plan before taking them out. They are not go anywhere bikes.
Wanted a go anywhere bike hence Jawa. Low seat height, manageable weight, retro style so head turner.
Hope Classic Legends makes drastic improvements in the manufacturing processes and all rough edges are ironed out and they deliver a polished Bike.
I hope these 3 bikes will complete my Garage.

I booked a maroon Jawa but confused now. Thinking of cancelling and going for Conti 650. I am worried about the A.S.S and reliability of the bike. Classic Legends is yet to establish a market presence and looking at the current trend, auto makers that come with a bang tend to leave the market bowing down to the competition. This will leaves buyers stranded. And being a new entrant, spares availability will in an issue in my opinion. And after market accessories and upgrades will definitely be not available any time soon. RE shines in this aspect.
Still in dilemma.

Re: Jawa & 42 Ownership Experience
Hello all happy owners and hearty congrats for your prized possessions.
My BIL recently got his single-channel ABS Jawa Classic marron color. We were happily riding it from day 1. Attention to detail superb and Classic is more or less close to the original Jawa model.
As everyone experienced, we too experience the weird 1st and 2nd gear issue. Every speed breaker I have to get it on 1 st gear to avoid knocking or getting it off. Fingers crossed this will get sorted after the first service.
A totally surprising issue cropped up, please let me know if anyone of you is facing the same or similar issue. Bike randomly just turns off and refused to get started. Sometimes it just stops after a long ride in traffic and sometimes just after a few KMS (4-6 KMS). The radiator fan is working just fine, coolant is there but still couldn't check whether it is the correct level.
Got the bike to the service center and the technician said some sensor was busted and he had changed it. The issue was not there for a day and again started. Today just after 6 KMS near Bypanahalli Metro Station it gave up and refused to start at all. He left it in the metro parking and
reached the office by auto.
Issues so far:
The random engine turns off and refused to start for hours.
Rear tire beading cut or hole.
2nd gear knocking at slow speed.
Hard gear shifts.
Hard and small seat.
Center stand scrapping when ridden with a pillion.
Hard to read speedo.
Things like so far:
A perfect replica of original Jawa.
Attention to detail.
Good paint quality.
Beautiful engine, both design and performance.
Lovely exhaust note.
Stable ride quality.
Good riding ergonomics.
Satisfactory fuel economy may be due to run-in speeds.
Brutal power on demand.
Overall I liked the design and performance but niggles so far give nightmares. A few photos of the bike, pardon the quality will upload good pictures soon.

Can confirm 2nd gear knocking at low speed. This is present on my Jawa 42 too since I have now ridden it quite a few times this week and last.Originally posted by joe_marvy View PostHello all happy owners and hearty congrats for your prized possessions.

Anyway I would be taking my bike for it's 1st service next week and would have a word with them on how can these issues be tackled. I guess the knocking issue can be resolved with some tweaks. More worried about the ground clearance issue as it is hitting the speed-breakers quite a lot.
I've read a lot about the issue involving engine stalling and not starting again on their Twitter and Facebook handles and I guess it is the faulty lambda sensor (the sensor which helps in cutting off the engine when the bike crashes/falls to the side). Your problem seems to be very similar.

Re: Jawa & 42 Ownership Experience
Thank you for your inputs. The technician did change that "lambda" sensor when I first reported and was working fine that day. Stalling started more frequently after changing the sensor. Raised a complaint through their customer care no one responded. Got hold of Regional Manager for South and spoke with him about the issues. He assured immediate action, soon I got a call from the showroom and a technician will be coming to the place where the bike stalled. I will keep you posted on the updates.Originally posted by nsm2285 View PostI've read a lot about the issue involving engine stalling and not starting again on their Twitter and Facebook handles and I guess it is the faulty lambda sensor (the sensor which helps in cutting off the engine when the bike crashes/falls to the side).
