And which side you are planning? As it's monsoon and cross winds are at peak. Apache is not so good in cross winds so take that into consideration too.

i have question on the Bike electrical. I have changed by battery (Exide) around 8 months back. Recently i am experiencing some battery issues with my bikes.
My Bike self works perfectly. Bike starts in the single self press.
My Bike horn works perfectly when i dont use the headlamp / indicators.
But during night, when i use the headlamp / indicators and use the horns, i can see the difference in sound of horn. Seems like the horns are not getting enough voltage.

Question is there any issue with the battery(being new) or is it anything else.

You need to get your battery charged. Ask your SVC to do that on your next service interval. If its not due soon then just get it charged from local battery shop or SVC.

            • TVS APACHE RTR 180: The angel who stole my soul

Like every other kid, owning a bike was one of my biggest dreams. I got a chance to ride an Apache RTR 180 (old model) when I completed my studies and joined for training. I was just a beginner and barely ride a bike. But I fall in love with her at the moment I started the engine. Her roar is too good. I couldn’t afford a bike at that time and my parents don’t like bikes too much. They were scared to buy me a bike due to the increasing two wheeler accidents. So I have to wait until a job to get my angel. I was able to convince my parents after getting a job and they agreed for it. Pulsar 220 was also in my mind but I could not let go of my angel. My mind always telling me she is the one. So I booked a test drive for the new Apache RTR 180. She was quite a stunner and she stole my heart on the first look and my soul in the test ride. Everyone demotivated me with TVS bikes but I had made up my mind. I booked a white Apache RTR 180 new model from Kottayam TVS. Bike was delivered on the second day of booking. She is my first bike and I don’t know much about PDI. However we looked for scratches. There were no issues and we are satisfied. She was pretty and we took her to the nearest Petrol Pump and filled her. Then we bought a vega helmet and took her to the church.

I was like a kid and eager to ride her. First day we ride 30 KMs. Making U-turns was the biggest problem in the beginning. I was not in good terms with the rear disk brakes. They always drag me in the beginning. Later I get used to it. I don’t have much experience in riding but she got me always. I was working 75 Kms away from home and my parents didn’t let me take her with me. I was daily commuting on bus. I thought taking her to the city without experience would be a difficult. After getting the registration number I brought her to office every Saturdays. She was only 120 KM ridden when I took her to office for the first time but she really earns my trust and gave me a lot of confidence. Riding her through the city is really awesome. She picks up very fast which is good for overtaking. Her power is very usable. You can feel her in every gear and doesn’t need much shifting in traffic. Every time when am scared she was like I got this, just ride on. I kept her below 55 till the first service and in return she offered me 45 KMPL. First service was done in 500 Kms and it costs me Rs. 400. I was hearing noise near the rear disks. I checked it and found that the brake is not tightened as the front brakes. The showroom people said its normal for the new models. I check it with other new bikes and found its normal. But the sound is very annoying and it was not present in other new models. So I took her to another showroom and they fixed it. They said it was from the rear wheel. They got the wheel out and put grease there.

She took away my fears and we were bonded each other. I was eager to push her to triple digits and it happened. We clocked at 105 KMPH for the first time. We done it again and clocked at 115 KMPH. I never push her beyond that due to vibrations. Vibrations are there after 70 KMPH which is ok till 95 KMPH. After that she vibrates very much especially in the handle bars and foot pegs which will lose our thrill. The second and third services were also cost under Rs. 500. The TVS Service is good and pretty decent. I have to change the rear disc plate at 5000 KMS. The plate was heating up in short runs also and not cooling down. It leads to non-availability of rear brakes. They replaced it under warranty. The costs of free services were below Rs. 500. I usually ride between 58-66 all the times till 8000 KMS and in returns she always give me 44-46 KMPL.

I went for a solo trip for the first time. The trip was around 300 KMS. It was a great trip which gives an opportunity to test the real potential of the bike. Heavy rain and fogs were nothing for her. Riding her through the hills is pretty good as she picks up very fast and the leaning is awesome. The Racing Throttle Response is too good and is very practical in traffic and hills. She looks like an angel but she is a beats when you start her up. The paid service costs around Rs. 750-1200. The ride was limited to weekends and holidays. Then I got a better job which is around 40 Kms from home. I took my angel with me to the new office and I am commuting daily around 80 Kms. Riding her was immense pleasure and every day I feel different. You never get bored with her. I was not lubing the chain except in the service. The chain become loose tight and I replaced it at 15,000 Kms. Then it was happened at 16,000 Kms I skid on a curve at 80 KMPH. Luckily nothing happened to me and my friend, not even a scratch. My gloves and shoes got some scars. But her headlight was broken, forks bended, key bended, exhauster pack set got damaged and front mudguard broken. I was crying like a baby by sitting in the road. I rode her to the showroom and costs Rs. 12,500 (got insurance for 10,500) for the repairs and replacement. Have to wait for 2 weeks due to the non-availability of parts. Here are some pics of the accident.

After this incident I replaced the rear tire with MRF masseter. The tire is pretty good in corners but not so good in wet conditions. Front tire got replaced by Michelin Pilot Street at 22,000 kms. After the new tire combination I was good at cornering and daily cruising at 70-85 KMPH and in return she provides me with a mileage of 40-42 KMPL. I tried to do some wheelies and stoppies with her. The wheelie happened only twice and stoppies happened few times. Sometimes (mostly while overtaking) I shift down with full throttle. You will love the feel but it affects the bike adversely. I have to change the shaft bearings and some other things which were also done under warranty. Now she is back in the form. The headlight power could be little more as it’s not useful for the speed she is capable of. Gear shifting is precise and sometimes I found neutral when switching to second gear. The riding position is aggressive and it will be pain to the wrists and shoulders. But I like it though. I rode 150 kms without making much stops.

I use Shell advance AX5 semi synthetic.this is the oil which is present now its done 1800+ kms and the mech is claiming its too low.

I have used Moutl 5100 on one occasion and that again lasted for 1800 when the mech said its dry.

Try TVS TRU4 PREMIUM 4T OIL suggested by TVS.. Also replace the oil filter. Am using it. Let's see how it lasts. Also do check for oil leaking. Putting a paper under the bike in night will do the oil check.

There isnt any Oil Leak, i checked .TVS TRU4 oil is the Worst oil i have ever used.Bike becomes very rough and vibrations are very pronounced. there is a little oil leak on the Engine head. Those TVS SVC folks claimed that they had sealed the head using a gasket but this it seems is not true.Even the head has a very small leak,i am sure its not the reason why the oil level is so low.i am suspecting some internal issue,i revved my bike to higher RPMS in neutral to check if there is any white smoke emanating from the exhaust(that indication means that bore or the piston rings are fried and engine is drinking up the oil) but fortunately no white smoke emanated,so there must be some issue, i will be going to a Reputed mech instead of the Crap TVS SVC.

Thanks for the info.. I have been using the TVS TRU4 since purchase. The bike vibrates even after 66 kmph. i thought that was due to the lack of refinement. Will try something new on the next service. which is the best in your opinion??

Mechanics with good experience can understand the issue better than showroom guys. There is some dirt removing procedure after 30,000 kms na?? Did you done that??
