When the mechs are too lazy to perform a task, they usually bullshit the customer! 😂 there is no difference in carb/engine/exhaust etc between abs & non abs model. Go to another mech and get the job done.

Re: TVS Apache RTR 180
Call me an idiot but this was the drama yesterday.
I had done close to 150kms on the 5100. Bike was really smooth & coupled that with the new found winter chillness here in bhubaneswar it temted me to take the highway. Did 70kms with speeds in between 80-90. Bike was behaving extremly well. Butter smooth with just a hint of vibrations reminding you that its a RTR !!
I had done the ride in the morning. Parked it in my garage. Evening came Got my bike out, started it.
Oops !!!. Bike felt coarse. Felt like its the vibiest apache ever made. Did not care much about this. Rode on. Now the biggest problem is when its at 3k rpm on any gear & you just increase the throttle a bit, the footpegs & rear portion of the bike judders like hell. My sister who was my pillion complained "What was that?? Has your bike got a cold ??"
After an hour I took it out again. It was back to normal.
The fact is winter had not set in my city so far. Its was still warm type. Nobody was using sweaters but yesterday winter came with crackling low temperature. It was 15 degrees yesterday in comparison to 25-26 the whole of the month back.
This might have an effect on the bike.
Lets see. Keeping my fingers crossed about today.TVS Apache RTR 180 (2014 - ….)

Re: TVS Apache RTR 180
I assume you are using correct grade of oil . Also personally i idle bike for 1-2 min while i close gate and wear helmet . Then ride very sedately for a km or two before going past 5k rpm. Think it of this way , what if i made you wake up and run a mile in winterOriginally posted by Mr_Many_Places View PostCall me an idiot but this was the drama yesterday.

. Although you can do it but you will be abusing me for the whole mile and performance wont be good , same way for bike. Let it reach its working temp before making it sing.

Re: TVS Apache RTR 180
Mr_Many_Places, I totally agree with RohIIT, warm up is good for the bike. Be it any season for the first start of the day I keep my bike idle atleast for a minute. Winter is the best season to ride not only for riders but also for the bike as the air is dense, the engine gets more oxygen thus there is better combustion & performance.

Re: TVS Apache RTR 180
Performed a mileage check today. I'm getting 38 kmpl, almost entirely ridden on highways. I tried to keep the speed between 80-90 kmph, since that would be a realistic cruising speed on actual highway rides.
Is this a normal mileage for the 180 ABS, or can it be improved further? If anyone is getting more, can you please share your shifting habits / tips? Thanks

I get around 45-50 on my rtr160 when I ride on highways with speed around 60-80.
But in city, i get only 40.What do you call a Biker who doesn't wear a helmet? An organ donor.

Re: TVS Apache RTR 180
Yep. I follow all the above said things + I start it with a kick, idle it for 2 mins while I close the garage , wear the helmet & do the sign of the cross . I stay below 50kmph for the first 10kms. Then I increase the speed gradually. Never have I done TWO. This is my standard procedure every time I start My bike.
I think it was all about the sudden climate change. I was just updating the log. Its 14degrees today & The bike behaved normally. No untoward vibes.TVS Apache RTR 180 (2014 - ….)

Will increasing the idle rpm help in cold weather?Originally posted by Mr_Many_Places View PostYep. Re: TVS Apache RTR 180
That mileage is bang on. That is what you will get realistically on the highway. Fact is you should keep a constant throttle for a good highway average. Plus if you slow down accelerate gently rather than violently. Higher quantity of fuel is burned on acceleration rather than keeping a constant 90kmphOriginally posted by cep View PostPerformed a mileage check today. Shifting technique-to each his own method. I can say that I shift at < 5k rpm.
Yes you can change the idle rpm a bit if the temperature is low. This way bike will reach its optimum temperature a bit faster but it will consume more fuel though.
It should be adjusted when the bike is running & it has reached its optimum temperature. But too much fiddling with carb can lead to problems to the engine & carb itself. Basically what you can do is set 2 tunings. 1 for summers & another for the winters.
The manual states an idling rpm of 1400rpm( + or -100rpm).
I keep my idle rpm at 1400k rpm. I get 43 in the city & 40 on the highways.TVS Apache RTR 180 (2014 - ….)

Re: TVS Apache RTR 180
Thank you! I am relieved to hear that. My acceleration is quick but linear (can shell out some mileage here if I try, I guessOriginally posted by Mr_Many_Places View PostThat mileage is bang on. ), and I did maintain constant throttle as much as possible. But I had to consciously make an effort to keep myself from drifting off into 90+ kmph speeds. It is really hard to stay within 80-85 kmph in the RTR!
I shift within 4-5k (sometimes 6k) rpm for third gear, but usually take the 4th upto 5-6k (sometimes 7k) rpm. I guess I can earn some kmpl here if I learn to shift early.Shifting technique-to each his own method. I can say that I shift at < 5k rpm.
Thank you, I will keep that in mind. You have been of wonderful help, as alwaysYes you can change the idle rpm a bit if the temperature is low. This way bike will reach its optimum temperature a bit faster but it will consume more fuel though.

And I'm curious to know how you get more mileage in the city!

Yes if you avoid touching 7k rpm then mileage might increase a bit. But thats how it is & you must not confuse mileage with satisfaction. If you are fine with the kmpl figures & your having a ball time with your ride. There is nothing more you ask. Can you ??
Well talking about city riding, I stay below 55kmph because there is no open road to take it beyond that.
Another thing which I have done ever since I got my bike is that I shift up/down at a particular speed irrespective of city riding or highway. Its a rule that I follow strictly & now my bike complains if you alter that speed when a gearchange is required. My friends complain this too when they ride my bike, they say shifts are smooth at my particular speed.
I shift at 13,23,33,43.TVS Apache RTR 180 (2014 - ….)

Re: TVS Apache RTR 180
Good to hearOriginally posted by ROHAN SPEEDOFREAK SHARMA View PostThats a preety nice figures. I get around 35 on my 190. Sometimes i touch 40 , during highways and less clutch use.
When I opted for a 180cc bike, I knew I'd have to clear my mind of "TVS Star City"-like mileage figures. I am not specifically worried about the mileage, but I ride around 100kms a day if I take the bike to college. So, I wanted to optimize my commutes for fuel-efficiency so I can save some money; because money saved on commutes is money better spent in wanderingOriginally posted by Mr_Many_Places View Post@cep

If it helps others browsing through this thread, I usually shift at 17, 25, 40, 50-60 (not counting 1st gear).I shift at 13,23,33,43.TVS Apache RTR 180 ABS + ADV Breed + TBG Street

Re: TVS Apache RTR 180
Hello guys,
Could you please tell me which is the better choice for chain-sprocket set? Roll-on or company set? I couldn't find a 148 link chain set for Roll-on from where I am now. Is it much better than the company one that it is worth waiting till I get one?
Hope some of you can answer my question. Also, is there any other better company which we can opt for?
