And wanted to ask question about spark plugs, when should one replace the spark plug or what are the symptoms that suggest to replace it? I have done 11000+ in past 8months after buying is it necessary to change it?

Thanks
I am using the same on my rtr180 non abs for about 4 months, and believe me its a worthy upgrade. Only problem i noticed is, recently i found two burned spots on the headlight reflector. Which i think (not sure) is because of the heat produced by new bulb. I will post some pics soon if you want. Mine is a 2010 model and done 41K.

Ahh I'm not really sure of the exact cost as I bought it about six months ago and was using it as a spare while touring.. But both of them fall within Rs 170-300 bracket.

Once I rode my RTR downhill (in gear) for about an hour and half continuously, and I could sense that the bike was really stressed out. The engine had heated up like crazy, and it was idling at 3-4k rpm when I stopped. But had it been an oil-cooled bike, it would have held out longer. This is what I meant when I said performance. And yes, an oil-cooled bike is a boon on slow roads. And it does make you happy on long tours.

All the same, got your point!

A few posts ago I mentioned about mechanical whirring noises from my bike's cylinder head, now after the oil change there is no hint of it. My rtr is back to normal.
I dont know what it was but now its gone.
That is good news. Bike runs a tad silently & the exhaust has got rortier . I like that. I noticed it while I was riding a friend's rtr & it was different. My bike sounded extra bassy.
I also noticed his bike had very little vibrations although he had just done 30xx kms. He was using the stock tvs oil . He is a sort of guy who likes to take it to max on each gear(5-6k rpm).
On the other hand I am a bit of James May type. Slow & calm.
Strange characteristics of the same model.

The bike has done around 150kms after pouring in the Motul 5100. Though the engine feels calm it also feels a bit more revvy. Oil behaves good at 60kmph & better at 80kmph. A bit better than shell ax7 as far as my bike is concerned.
No extra time needed for warming up the bike. Yet to check on the mileage front. I guess I am getting around 43. Thats 1kmpl less than what the bike used to give when it was on shell. Its negligible.
If I am to rate the shell as 8/10 then I'l rate the motul as 8.5/10.
Next update at 500kms

Hi All...Could anyone in Bangalore suggest good TVS service centers nearby Ramamurthy Nagar or KR.Puram or Marathahalli. So far I was giving in Domlur tristar TVS service center which was nearby to my place and service was pretty okay for me.
Now that Im shifting to Ram murthy nagar its not easy to travel so for just for servicing.
Any leads on good workshops along that area will also be helpful as Im new to that place.
Mine is RTR 160cc.

(1) Clutch and throttle cable free play checked and kept at recommended level after playing with them at different setting.
(2) Drive chain slackness checked
(3) Brake checked
(4) Drained the petrol form carburettor and there is no water in it.
(5) Tappets checked
(6) Tried to clean the carburettor and broke the top cap, however got it replaced it under warranty.
Now the ASC people are asking to leave the bike with them for overnight ,so that they can check it in the morning which I am reluctant to do.By the way who leaves his love among other people for night.
Finally got the problem solved It was bad TCI. however got carburetor, spark plug along with suppressor cap changed under warranty 2015 model does not have TPS instead of this TCI is controlling the ignition timing.there is small request to all fellow owner of rtr please let us know from which model onward they have discontinued using TPS.The color of TCI has been again changed to Grey(same color as that of rtr 160) from green. It means there is some inbuilt problem with old green color TCI too .
P.S. Now the task is to get battery changed under warranty before expiry of one year warranty period is over.

This is an update about the following post by me on this thread a few days (weeks?) ago.

- Squeaky noises from the front wheel. I was told they didn't tighten the fork properly, and it was not level. The SVC rectified it, but there is still some squeaky noise from the front disk.
- Oil leak from the head of the exhaust.
- Timing chain noise. I was told it would settle after a couple of days, but it has gotten worse.
- Vibrations. A LOT of them. I asked some RTR friends to test my ride, and they said it's way too much.

Over the last couple of hundred kilometers, I have also been feeling a loss in transmission, when cruising at 80kmph+. It is sort of like when the bike goes into reserve; there is a jerk. The throttle response feels sluggish too.

I am also having problems with idling rpm. If I set it anywhere above 1200rpm, the engine lingers at 3-4k rpm when stopping in traffic or signals (drops once I put the bike in gear and start moving). Any less, and it tends to turn off (understandably so).

The rear disk gets really hot even after short rides. No, I don't ride with my foot over the brake lever. This is something the SVC has failed to rectify. I also think that they are reluctant to mess with the brakes on ABS models.
I got the following suggestions from these awesome people:

Originally posted by Mr_Many_Places View Post

The idle rpm & the clutch problem is inter related. Visit the svc & tell them to check the spark plugs & the carb settings/screws/rotations needed.
I had the same problem just a week into my new ownership. The svc was able to resolve it. Its been a year & half now. Not a problem any more.

You said loss of transmission , this is the by product of a misalligned carb setting.
Originally posted by Abishek94 View Post

During this service (4th free, 8.5k odo) the SVC was able to rectify most of the problems. The bike no longer feels sick, and the response has improved leaps and bounds. I have completed 200kms after the service, and I am also noticing a reduction in the vibrations.

However, when I asked the mechanic to look at the carb, the mechanic told me that one must not simply fiddle with the ABS's carb -- its not like the regular 180. I couldn't understand the relationship between the ABS (which afaik, is a 'brakes' thing) and the carb. Their fear of working with an ABS bike is proving troublesome for me. As a result, the rpm-idling problem is still present. And it becomes more pronounced, the longer I ride.

The rear disk heating issue is still present too. Although the mechanic adjusted the rear brake pads, the only difference i notice is that I have to press harder on the lever now. I might have to get it checked: the braking power is not up to the mark either.

Any suggestions on how I can get a thorough check of the bike done? I would love to have all the problems rectified once and for all. I doubt that the SVC do everything on the checklist. For instance, I found that my chain wasn't even lubed this time. I didn't mind it that much, because I lube my chain anyway. But still, I would have liked them to pay a little more attention to my ride.

A few months back when I was cleaning the carburettor, I found few strands of accelerator cable in broken state. I had planned to get it changed but the service centre was too busy for this, after that the bike was not used for about a month. I did a 600km ride this Sunday & before that Abishek94 's post reminded me of my accelerator cable. Got it from TVS service centre for Rs 164/- & as changing the cable also included removing the tank I thought of changing the tank cushion which costs Rs 14/- Replaced the cable, tank cushion, cleaned the air filter, chain was cleaned & lubed which consumed all my Saturday evening. Coming to the ride, all I can say is that the bike performed beautifully & 600 km were covered without any problem.

Thanks for the suggestion Abhishek & Andrew. Even I felt Tristar is good & the head mechanic is flexible, but the only problem is distance. Probably i will have to opt for express service in tristar and so I can get the service done there in couple of hours and ride back home.
Will Arunagiri force me to change oil from them? Normally I do it outside from local mechanic.
