  • Re: TVS Apache RTR 180

I am planning to fit the air filter of Apache to my GS150R.

Is the unit available as a set in Chennai (Gaskets, Cover, Cage and Foam)? SVCs near my home only has the foam thing.

Well as I said, even I was surprised the bike gave me 40 plus on insane riding. I believe the funda is to keep the bike breathing properly. What I do is, I keep the bike at a constant rpm and close the throttle just a little bit and open it again to gain that extra bump in power. This lets the bike breathe a little more air and thus enabling better compression. I do not redline the bike. Max to max the gear changes are at 9000 rpm and let the engine get to its own sweet spot and stick at that speed constantly for some time. My Rtr felt its sweet spot at 95kph and I would suggest the same for highway riding. Also certain habits do help in good health of the bike like maintain correct tire pressure always, get the engine serviced at every 2000 kms( oil change and oil filter change mandatory), fill up fuel from the same petrol bunk which you feel is good, look out for wear and tear and change items immediately and do not wait till that part perishes, always warm up the bike at the start of the day and whenever not used for long hours, do occasional gear to gear shifts like in drag race but do not cross the redline at any time and when on first gear, do not ride the bike on higher gears on lower speeds ( I don't ride the bike below 4000 rpm on any gear except first and second and in slow moving traffic), gear shifts anywhere between 5000-7000 rpm etc etc..... These are some of the things I do. The bike can give more than 50 kmpl if ridden sanely but as per my belief Rtr is a rev happy bike and you need a little insanity to ride one. My suggestion do not worry about mileage but rather focus on maintaining the bike in good condition. The machine itself will give back the best in return in terms of performance, mileage and satisfaction.

I have decided for apache rtr 180. This is 2015 and there are many new bikes on road. I need a bike which can sustain my college years and give me thrill, adrenaline push
and comfort. I have selected apache rtr 180 but as I can't switch bikes frequently I have to be very sure, please guys help me out if there is any other bike I should consider or is I am taking the right decision. Mileage is not an issue, I need power, good pickup and a fun to ride bike with comfort and good handling..
Go for it buddy. You won't regret it. Good handling - Yes. This is a monster when it comes to handling. You can throw the bike around and not be scared a bit. Just change the tires to a more grippy one.
Comfort - Not so much as it is sporty in nature. But with solo won't be a trouble much. I never found it uncomfortable except in bumper to bumper traffic as I use the front brakes a lot. For seating comfort you have a lot of options in the market.
Adrenaline Rush - it will fulfill all your needs. Better enjoyed while cutting traffic and zipping past others. Good top speed and awesome power.
Sustainability - it will see you through your college years provided you maintain the bike and service it regularly. Do not modify or tink around with the engine. Folks here will help you with the best choices for any problems. Keep it stock.

Don't go for the k&n air filter. It won't give you any noticeable performance upgrade beyond the exhaust note. And plus it might lead to engine problems later on. Regarding engine oil I am sure others might help you. I was happy with semi synthetic Shell ax7.

Try motul 5100 or shell advance ax7. As per your preferance. Both are very good products. Both of them are semi synthetic type.

got the last accident of 2015 on 31/12/2015.A cyclist jump over the road divider and ram into my bike and took both of us on ground, luckily my bike and me are both unhurt. But poor cyclist could not go unhurt, not because of accident, you guess why.so 2015 ended with accident and fight.

Well for engine oil motul 5100 is good (my experience) and i don't prefer after market airfilters unless there is a good mechanic in hand that can tune the carburetor

In fact it perfectly does. Provided he is able to maintain it well. Should be a no brainer to run it in college years

Why not a Duke 200 then? Little more than NS200 barring the price. But I am still not happy with Bajaj products and I have personally ridden the bike. It will show its true colors in a year or so. Its a VFM at its cost. Looking at the guy and for his college years I feel RTR 180 will be perfect learning bike and should be able to master it and graduate (along with his graduation) to bigger bikes in a couple of years. Anyway we are spoilt for choices now. Nothing wrong in your suggestion as well.

                            Hi guys,

I have changed the oil to TVS tru4 synthetic during the last service. Oil costs 525 (tax included). In general, I felt no difference below 50 kmph. One positive thing is that the vibrations have significantly reduced at cruising speeds (60-80 kmph). Did not test beyond 80 kmph, so cannot comment the performance in higher speeds. Gear box seems smooth and the engine heat has reduced (may be because of cold weather).

My bike is running with the same oil. Its a very good oil. The shifts are quite smooth and engine heat is much less. The most important thing is, after coming from TVS mineral oil, the vibrations does seem negligible and that is great if you are revving the bike hard

It could be just me, but when I switched to TRU4 from mineral oil, the bike instantly felt butter-smooth! I remember thinking then that the difference was quiet significant.

From the suggestions on this thread, I am planning to try the Shell AX7 or a similar offering from Motul the next time I am due for an oil-change.
