Formal shoes wont go long, rather get a gear sock .
I use army boots, can be worn formally too, just dont tuck the jeans in the boot.

A pair of dedicated riding boots will cost you 7 - 8k from local manufacturers like aspida, zues etc. If you want anything better than those then you will have to shell out upwards of 10k for a pair of decent riding boots.
But if you maintain them properly they will last long.
If you want something cheaper then you can have a look at army boots/hard soled woodlands.

I can't really be sure of this, but I think you might need to check your spark plug for signs of bad carb tuning.
I got a suggestion to De-carbonize the Engine head. Is it safe to do it? The spark plug I am going to replace anyway as I am having starting problems and it is long due.

This comes as a surprise! Have you tried the shell AX7 oil? It is great! Shell Ultra also is a great oil. If both don't satisfy you, try Motul 7100 FS oil. I would still say give Shell AX7 another go.
I used the Shell AX5 last time and I noticed some decrease in performance. Mainly, I didnt see the mileage improvement that happens everytime with new oil, the pick up was sloppy, and houldnt match the high speeds I used to get with stock TVS oil. I am now considering the Motul 5100 or Motul 7100, the 10w40 version. Is it comparable to Shell AX7?

AFAIK, the NGK IR sparkplugs really just last longer. No real advantage. They also cost more. It's a solution to a non-problem. Please stay away from K&N filters. They are meant for track use. The amount of dust they will let into your engine will bring you more woes than you want to bargain for. If you absolutely have to, try Simota air filters. They are at least street friendly. They should be available online easily.
Since I have to replace the Spark plugs anyway, I am ordering the NGK CR7EIX and splitfire Twin cable from Snapdeal. About the air filter, well I was reading through the testimonials of K&N and was tempted to go for it. But as you and many others say, its not worth the trouble it may cause later. Probably will go with HP or Speedwave airfilter available online

Three times in 30k km? :O That's preposterous! You can do chain maintenance at home yourself. Check YouTube for a user named Mandy newcity. He has detailed videos of RTR maintenance. You don't need much to clean and oil you chain, which I'd recommend you do every 15-20days. You will see the difference in ride quality instantaneously!
I use a Chain spray to lube the chain everytime I wash the bike and thats generally once in 2 months. My first sprocket lasted 17k kms, the second one lasted 5k kms (it had a saddlesore on it) and the current one only has about 11k kms. I use the bike on highways and go in the 70-80 range. Is it my usage that is eroding the chain quickly? I thought these SVC guys gave me a faulty spocket set. Anyways, Ive bought a new sprocket and will get it installed from a local mechanic.

I do not think it's as simple as spray paint. It is powder coated with black through anodizing the wheel. It can be done at a motorcycle detailing shop. If you scour the sub-forums you will find what you need to know.
I am postponing this job as I am planning to get the engine and performance straight for starters. Anyways, will look through the threads for the info.

Sorry can't comment on this. We do have a member by the name of Vishnu Leo I think. He had managed to use the Duke's LED indicators on his RTR. Should be a simple procedure.
I am getting the stock indicators itself as they are cheap and can be replaced easily.

But I guess that's every Indian SVC for every Indian/International brand.
It is really unfortunate. But since I live on the outskirts of the city, I have only 2-3 days to gather all the parts and get it installed from a local mechanics there. Im glad that I dont have to miss out on SVC guys...

Nothing wrong in de-carbonising , You can get it done from reputed place, if you have any nearby.

Synthetic as mentioned will make the bike little sluggish. I still feel if someone is in harsh riding Motul would be better or else AX7 for normal riders and someone who redline once in a while

NGK would be around Rs550, apart from lasting long , it wont give any difference in anything. IMO, its not worth the money we pay for it.
Why the hell are you bent on After market air filters, avoid those. They would do more bad to the engine than any good.

Chain lube should be done regularly and frequently if one rides in a rain. Chain sprocket life also depends on how we engage gears too, wrong chain with wrong sprocket can decrease the life too. If you are getting the sprocket changed, get the chain changed too, both goes hand in hand.

Oh, But there are so many people telling me about the change in performance and reduced vibrations with the NGK spark plug. NGK is Rs 650 and now you guys are making me think to go for TVS Stock Plug itself.

And I thought these air filters were an upgrade from the current stock one. is it not so?

Yes I bought the complete set from the spare parts with sprocket, chain and a 13T cog. Well, to justify, I did use the 1st sprocket for a good 18k kms. Hence though Ill buy separately and get it replaced from a mechanic.

No by engine and performance, I meant the above problems only. I was trying to get the bike back to a smooth ride before going for aesthetics.

Less vibes by changing the spark plugs
There wont be any performance change if you go to NGK

They would do good, if you get filter, upjet the carb and get a full free flow exhaust and with the mindset that these "might" screw the engine too.
I dont know whether you know this or npt but other members know here, that I have gone through all this hot-rodding and learnt a valuable lesson, stock will last longer.

Thanks a lot Prateek! I went through all the FAQs you've written and boy I wish I read that earlier before wasting time online.

And I posted the same set of questions here and there were all sorts of people recommending me the stuff. Good that we can check the credibility of responders in xBHP. Thanks again.

                        Now I know that
                        1. The engine sounds are mostly the metallic tappet sounds. Will tell the SVC to check valve clearence and decarbonize.
                        2. Ill replace the spark plug with stock as it seems to last 10k kms easily.
                        3. The TVS SVC guys said they will replace any brand of oil I bring. So ill probably get them Shell AX7 which is easily available unlike the Motul
                        4. They can handle the stock indicators and paint chip offs as well

So I guess the SVC is my only option of resort. Hopefully they use the oil and sprocket that I've bought from outside and not screw it up!

I am using a (tuned)FFE and have also upjetted my carb but i said no to those aftermarket air filter, the ffe and upjetting wont do much damage but if i had installed an aftermarket airfiler then for sure my bike's motor would have been ruined by now.
But still by doing any mods, you have to look after her more

Hi everyone. I went to MRF showroom to change my front tires (TT) of my RTR-160 to Zapper FY1(TL-90/80-17"). They quoted 2k for the same. When I said regarding my TT setup as the stock one, he said first to get a "Tubeless Converter"(which is nothing but a air inlet nozzle complete setup), which can be bought from some puntcher shops. I found one and they quoted 280/- at first. When I said I wont buy for 280 they came down to 200/-. Anyway I didnt buy it and thought of collecting more information before buying one.
                            My two queries are:
                            1. Have anyone used this Tubeless converter. This is the first time Im hearing & when i saw it was kind of that air inlet setup. As per the MRF guy its mandatory to have it before converting from TT to TL setup. Is that so??
                            2. What is the actual cost of this convertor. Is it really 200 or more?
                            3. Is the price of the tire okay or have they quoted too high?? (BTW I'm from bangalore & I checked the RF showroom nearby Iblur bus stop)

Price of the tire quoted is fine. You could bargain but I doubt they will reduce it at all. The tubeless converter(fancy term) is required as you aptly put, as an air inlet nozzle to fill air into your tires. As for the cost I have no idea. I've never actually gone form TT to TL tires. Done the vice versa. And it didn't cost me anything as the nozzle comes fitted to the tube. BUT let me tell you - I very recently got my own RTR's rear tire changed to a stock tire( I live by keeping things stock on my bike - even the tires which many people detest but I've found to be fine ) and they put on the nozzle for free. I can't be sure of this, but shouldn't each tubeless tire come with one of the "converters" out of the box?

I also have another piece of advice - keep both the front and back tires from the same manufacturer and of the same make. In fact there is a reason I am apprehensive of changing the tires to any other but stock. A bike is a marvelous engineering feat. They take and account for measurements down to millimeters. And believe it or not, the difference in height between the front and back tires is also a thing and effects the speed, ride quality and FE of your vehicle. Changing tire has an effect similar to 'sprocket'ing on your bike. Try to stick at least to the stock tire specs - 90/90 17 inch in the front and 110/80 17 inch in the back.
