Re: TVS Apache RTR 180
Time for the review: I am using the TVS TRU4 Synthetic 10W 30 engine oil for some time now so thought of sharing the experience. I have used different oils in my RTR 180 with a strict rule of oil & oil filter change at 2000km. Got the oil form TVS service centre at Rs 525. First thing you will notice about the oil is its green colour which reminded me of Motul 300v. It took around 100-150km for the oil to settle in smoothness. The oil is a good performer in highways as I recently did around 500km in a day with a pillion & the engine was smooth throughout the ride. Riding continuously in the ghat sections was a smooth event. As we know Apache's engine has a tendency to heat up sadly this oil didn't help here especially during the city ride on a hot summer afternoon. I would say the shell AX7 has better heat management. The oil retained its viscosity even in high speed riding conditions. Overall I would say that TVS has done a good job with this oil as many of us are not satisfied by the engine oils from the manufacturers. I would also like to mention the Mobil racing which I got to use once & the experience was great, sadly the oil is not readily available. The shell AX7 the VFM product & is one of the best semi synthetic oils in the market for RTR.Originally posted by Traveller01 View Post

Re: Got it
Got my new RTR 180 yesterday
.
There was heavy rain with thunder and taking the bike home seemed to be tough. It was the inauguration day of the showroom. So there was ribbon cutting ceremony, photo shoots and all that kind of stuff which was very boring for me (and all other customers who were eagerly waiting to get their hands on their new rides) then the rain stopped and I got my bike home.
The bike seems to be smoother than RTR 160, right from day one! Firing has lower volume than my RTR 160, may be TVS has toned it down a bit? gear upshifts are very smooth. Downshift gets notchy occasionally. Already covered 60 km till now.

Re: TVS Apache RTR 180
Yes. I agree with that too. The exhaust seems a bit muted in our 180's. I rode my friend's 160 & it was louder than mine for sure.
Good review there Traveller01 . I too use the tvs oil(semi synthetic). I feel its a vfm thing. My oil lasts close to 2000kms . I am not very much of a spirited rider & my monthly running is a max 500kms. If i use the fully synthetic version i guess they will run longer in mine. But my mind hits back saying " dude get the ax7 for 400 bucks & save a hundred Rs. "
I'l be changing my oil in September after my free services are over. Cant wait to feel the ax7 do its job.Last edited by Mr_Many_Places; 06-06-2015, 12:48 AM.TVS Apache RTR 180 (2014 - ….)

Re: TVS Apache RTR 180
Odo at 30k kms.
Valves replaced, and now going on with boring run in.
So far she is running good, it has been around 8.5k kms with the exhaust and no such probs as of now.
180's chain and sproket set really helps a lot on highways.
The low end torque on the other hand is almost gone thanks to the FFE(torque curve changed) and its a pain in the butt to ride in city but my usage is mostly on highway so i dont mind.
There is no power below 4.5k rpm but post 5.5k rpm its pure bliss, never fails to leave a grin on my face
Im currently using mobil1 racing 10w40(fs), the oil suits the motor, there has been no leakages so far and only when the oil is new, gear shifts are hard at times but after 200 - 300 kms, it becomes very smooth and keeps the engine cool too. I usually change at 2.5 - 3k kms but the oil can eaisly last 4+k kms.
In kolkata it costs 750/- for a liter.

@Rahul.g : Which free flow are you on? Sorry I forgot if mentioned earlier. And if I know correct ffe should give a bump to initial torque.
suj : Depends from person to person, actually. I found gear changes too harsh whenever I used motul. Rest everything was fine.Fare thee well xBhp, All the best for being the biggest name in corporate world

Re: TVS Apache RTR 180
Thanks friends for the wishes. 90 km covered. First oil change planned today. Did multiple short rides of 7-10 km after warming up engine for 3-5 minutes on each start. Most of the riding was in 4-6k RPM range with Tachometer touching 7k mark occassionally in later part of the rides . Top gear engaged extremely rarely.
@ Pranav : I had RTR160 2014 model, pearl white colour. Excellent bike. I had no issues with maintenance/mileage/posture/tyres at all ( i do not use bike in rains).
It had vibrations above 6.4k RPM but it used to reach 83 kmph at 6k RPM (was over-geared using RTR 180 front sprocket) and that speed was more than adequate for 99% of my use. So Vibrations did not bother me either unless I tried to push beyond 90 kmph.
It had major issue of rusting within first 6 months. The company support was good and they replaced everything under warranty, including the frame.
Now I plan to do longish rides. So i needed something more powerful and safer. So Isold RTR 160. I had very few options in ABS. RTR180, CBR250, Duke 390.
With my intended use for 90% city-10% highway, expected, fuel efficiency above 30 kmpl, and need of decent pillion seat, the choice was easy to make.
Difficult for me to compare performance of 180 vs 160 at this stage. Noted few things though.
1) RTR 180 is smoother right from day 0. 160 was not so smooth initially but it had become very very smooth after about 5k km.
2) Handling and ride comfort seems to be same as expected
3) Exhaust note of my RTR 160 was louder. I am not a fan of loud exhaust, so I am happy with RTR 180 exhaust note.
4) Gear shifts are smooth from day 1, was not so with RTR 160. Down-shifts get clunky occasionally but over all the gear shifting is sweet.
5) I didn't know that 180 comes with DC electricals.

Re: TVS Apache RTR 180
So, I got a chance to rest the wet grip of Remora tyres yesterday. It started raining after I left office. Since I never rode my 180 (covered 900km so far) on wet roads, I decided to give a try. My initial impression was that they are much better than srichakra ones (I used to ride an old 160 before). I maintained a constant 40-50 kmph as the bike is in run-in. Everything was going smooth until I came across a bad stretch of road. A construction work was going on, so the road was muddy with potholes. I slowed down to below 20 kmph (before taking on the patch, not in the mud) and after a few meters, i had to navigate a pothole and voila! I managed to do a perfect S curve with the back tyre. The back of the bike gave away, there was no grip whatsoever. I stopped. Covered the bad patch in first gear only. So, now I am worried about the tyres. I am thinking of getting a new set of tyres as soon as possible. Any suggestions?
An old guy was riding along side me, after observing my stunts
he said "you guys waste money on powerful bikes and yet can't control them", I smiled and rode away.

Re: TVS Apache RTR 180
Its a custom made exhaust, designed by our common friend devraj.
He did a great job with the exhaust and im extremely happy with it.
Considering power, there is a noticeable gain, pulls right past any 150cc bike or even a stock 160 with ease but the downside is that there is no low end torque.
She starts to come to life post 4.5k rpm and post 5.5k rpm she pulls like crazy till 9.5k rpm.
