Because old RD350s and Bullets cannot start even with kicker if battery is low.
I own a 180 ABS with DC setup. Ran out of battery once. Engine kicked to life in no time in all those days when I ran without battery.

Time for a very emotional good bye to my ever reliable friend. Its been 5 year and 4 months, 59K Odo, touchwood.
Has run only around 5K or so in last 1 year. Currenty using my CBR for Highways and Jupiter in the cities. With more and more added responsibilities in life, RTR lies unattended for days. Its better to sell, so that the next owner can take better care of it.

thats sad to hear!! even i had plans of selling mine after my horrible experiences with TVS SVC and also the intense crush i have developed for CBR150R....but i feel my true love will be my RTR180..yeh hi mera pehla aur aakhri pyar hai!!!i have decided ill never sell my bike but buy another bike in future for highway needs.

another question the ASC people say the engine bore has to replaced.. will this lower my performance??bikes only done 18000 KMS.as mentioned in my earlier post no engine oil is what the mech claims...but i am sure 100% there was engine oil albiet a little less.i i would have felt the power loss or overheating if engine oil was less...i poured in Shell AX7 advance.looking forward to your replies

I would Suggest that you pour in 1L of fresh shell ax7 engine oil and ride for 500-1k km and keep observing the oil level throughout for any drop in oil level. If oil level does decrease by a small amount then check for oil leakage around the engine head or near the engine oil drain bolt. Do this before you jump directly into changing the bore piston etc.. Also seek a second opinion from a trusted mech about the drop in engine oil level if at all that happens. 18000km is too early for engine rebuild :O If the rebuild is done properly using genuine parts then there wont be any drop in performance, it will be like a new engine so you have to follow the run-in procedure all over again.

Ok. Good to know even full DC can be started with kick. Cool. Thanks for clearing the doubt.

Owners, I have a question for you. Does A180 come with DC setup from factory? Personal opinion is I don't like my headlight weaken and getting stronger based on the revs of the engine.

1.Not all apache comes with dc setup, only the ABS model comes with dc setup.
                2. Even I wish to learn about the second issue.

guys I have a problem and need your feedback ASAP.my bike was fine last week until I started hearing some chain noise so took it Triton ASC.First he told me chain lube should be done next he told me sprocket has to changed after 10 min one mechanic told me bore has to be changed because there was no engine oil and there was smoke emanating from the exhaust when the bike was revved to 10K RPM.i myself changed the engine oil at shell and bikes done 2500 kms after oil change at shell. I feel the SVC is trying to cheat me,because the bike performed tip top and I also managed to touch 128 a few weeks back and the bike was vibe free and also no signs of overheating. I have sent a complaint mail to TVS. What could be issue??

Yes , my friend has the older gen 180, not the beast one.
And didn't take photos of the bike nor took more than a customary photo of ourselves. Not really a photo guy

This is the second time my engine is getting re-bored!!The SVC guy showed the engine before the repair was carried out,The bore had scratches inside he said this was due to no engine also the piston head (on top) was burnt and had become black. Should have taken pics and posted it,is this good enough for an engine overhaul???bill has approx come to 18,000INR.This time I was almost ready to sell my bike to buy the CBR150R,but I have decided that I will continue my journey with my beloved RTR180. so this will be third time where I will have to follow run in procedures!!! I just hope power hasn't gone down. Will post the pics and bill details soon. The repair was carried out in Bridgestone TVS in rajajinagar.

                      Hi,

Similar issue as the ones going on. I have 2010 RTR 180, done some 27000 kms. Unfortunately I was going thru a rough patch and missed the quarterly service in Oct'14. The Bike developed some tik-tik noise (tappet?) and I replaced the Engine oil myself in Nov'14 after which it was gone. Now this tappet noise again appeaed in Feb'15, and seemed to grow increasingly in just a few days. Finally I went to the SVC to get it serviced properly. Totally since Feb the bike would have run not more than 2000 kms. The SVC just heard the Tappet noise and said engine work is required on the engine head as well as the bottom . And they said it will cost Rs7000 for this and if I continue my engine might sieze which will cost much more to repair.

I just asked them to do a normal service. Surprisingly the bike came out of service with loud tik-tik (tappet?) noise :-/ and since it was 8pm they literally closed down 2 mins after that.

I don't trust the SVC much and will be going to another good mechanic to get this checked. In the meantime any views? If its a big problem I would rather get it done at the SVC?

My usage of this bike will only be city rides not going over 80 (to office and back, everyday 10kms total), as for the highway and weekend i have another bike. Please advice.

                        Hey Guys,

I am relocating to Navi Mumbai in March 2015 and wanted to know of a good mechanic/Service Station in and around Airoli Navi Mumbai who will take good care of my RTR 180.

                          Guys imp update-

Went in the morn to the SVC, and said why didn't you adjust tappet since its making noise .... And they were like sir this is not tappet noise, this is engine humming noise !! , .. .. I insisted please tighten the tappets and they refused saying that they did that in the service and problem is with the engine itself! .... Gruntled i went away.

Now while coming back from office i stopped at a small mech and said there is tappet noise can you adjust. He took 15mins and 100 rs ....and magic! the noise is now completely gone now 8-) (hopefully gone for good!)...

Rs7000 my ass.!!! ....i felt like going back to the svc and blasting them... but decided to keep my peace of mind as was happy with the results .

Scratches on bore are indeed due to low engine oil. The black burnt thing which you saw on piston is nothing but carbon deposits which is a result of combustion of fuel and air in the combustion chamber. A rich a/f ratio will result in a lot of carbon deposit and vice versa..
Scratches on the bore is a good enough reason for engine work.

Did you make sure that he adjusted the clearance to company recommended specs using a feeler gauge? Asking since it is better to have slightly noisy and loose valve than an overtight one.
