  • I too have got the same work done by Joel, and I have to say the Bike is simply amazing... It feels so grossly undergeared, shooting to the redline so easily....

The only difference is that I have got a bigger Carb a BS-32, instead of upjetting the existing one...

I would recommend this setup to anyone..... No 2nd thoughts...

Downshifting is a strict no-no in my books to extract power unless i am in wrong gear. The way i ride i am always in the right gear but while on the R15 it will always feel like its in a gear above, which is why it puts me off and with pillion it just gets worse. Simply put, R15 is a better motorcycle overall but the RTR 180 is closest 'thrill' tool you can buy in the market today(along with the P220 DTSi). No other (under 1.2 lakhs) bike can give that sort of riding involvement in the market today.

This is what I was talking about. Swagath has summed up perfectly. Its the sum of all parts. Thanks

Mate, the CBR too ain't close, sadly. Its a bigger Karizma with better handling.

Back to RTR-180 discussions now Sorry for hi-jacking this thread for a moment.
Thanks for you inputs guys. I think the duel between the R15 and RTR is settled as of now...

The only bike that seems to be interesting in coming days is the KTM 200! CBR has got lukewarm response from the biker janta. Yes, a grown up Karizma it is, but then Karizma is no slouch either. I enjoy riding it. It's fun, isn't it? I think CBR is near-perfect for our road conditions/requirements. Why do you guys bash the poor 250 I don't understand?

Let's not get off-topic though. I need a little bit of help from all you guys. We guys have had almost 900 pages discussing issues with our bikes. Can we all just sum-up the expenses so far put on the bike? Like a true ownership report. Note that, big-bore kit or any modifications is not under the expenses. I want to know about a stock bike only.

      Here I start first,

      Kilometers done- 23k

Time since purchase: 2 years and 4 months.

      Parts changed/replaced:

One way clutch- Rs.2700 ( under warranty)

Silencer- Replaced under warranty and I was told it was for Rs. 5000.

      Brake pads: 3xRear pads (350 each)= Rs. 1050
      2xFront pads(350 each)= Rs. 700

Rear disc plate- Rs. 900. (True?)

      Throttle cable for 200 bucks.

Tyre change at 12 k kilometeres- Rs.1600 (only rear)

      Battery for Rs. 1700.

Lets take 500 bucks for each service in every 3 months. This will include Air filter/oil filter change also. Makes it a total of Rs.4500 (for 27 months).

Lets tot-up the totals (not including the parts replaced under warranty),

      1050+700+900+200+1600+1700+4500= Rs. 10, 650.

      Pending issues: Chain-set and cone-set.

The bike still flies from standstill and 3.7-4.0 is still achievable on the 0-60kph recorder. Top speed of 135kph has just been reached as well. That means, it hasn't lost much in terms of performance.

Going by the prices above, I don't think RTR is an expensive bike to maintain against the common belief of many. Or, is it?

PS: Many of the plastic and metal parts have been replaced in my bike. But that's after accident or came under insurance. I have not included them. Also, I have done all the calculations in round figures, just to make it easy. Plus, minus, a few hundreds is no big deal.
If you ride like there's no tomorrow...worry not there won't be!

      • @ newguy nicely done mate! u really had the will to ride down till there to get ur bike completely done liked the way u have written it all down too!!

        @ shivank
        here is my list..

date of purchase : nov 2009

        kilometers done : 12k

        parts changed / maintainance:

one way clutch ( done under warranty )

right side footpeg * 3 ( wont include as these were due to accidents)

front fairing, wheel allignment, front mudguard, brake lever ( wont include as these were due to an accident )

rear tyre puncture ( dunno if i should include this )

if we calculate the services for every 3 months @ 500 each then it comes out around 4000 bucks.
but i had dumped tvs svc after 5 free services and went to the trusty local mech

        things to be changed :
put a choke cable as mine had gone kaput and the mech had removed it
        change spark plug
        change/ check disc pad wear
        check cone set
battery ( doing fine for now )
tires : will do for the next 5-6 k (atleast)

all in all mine came out to be quite less in the past 2 years..
yeah u can take into consideration that i haven't ridden much!
i am not including the times when i had to spend when a friend of mine crashed my bike
anyways i guess i'll have to change some parts from now starting from the spark plug!

        EDIT :
        best mileage: 48
        worst mileage: 32
        average mileage : 40-45
        top speed attained yet: 130

Clutchless shifts do no harm in sequential gearboxes. But there's a right way of doing it. You need to match the 'revs' with road speed. Inappropriate methods will only grind the innards.

AFAIK, It's only valid for upshifts and not downshifts. You need to check with some professionals for more info.
Oh Ok Fine.. Dint know that but i guess its not an appropriate way to drive without using clutch...

Not a problem. I have learnt this from here only. Clutchless shifts are appropriate unless you are doing it inappropriately. Even in the process of learning, you will hear weird noises out of the tranny. That's why you think it's inappropriate. Once you get hang, it is as smooth as silk.

The problem with ZMR is its pricing. Don't you think? It is in the R15 territory rather than competing with desi-mates P220s/RTR180. That's a disaster.

I would buy the R15 without second thoughts if I had to pay near same money for the ZMR (earlier I would consider it for once but now with V2.0. Never!). It comes with technology, but as an overall package it is a bit....bland for many.

@ Sid137, Pranav, Rak2410, Viscmad, Vineshp. Thanks for your inputs...

                  @ Vineshp

I wanted to know more about ownership costs this time. Hence, added a few more points to what has already been discussed. Thanks again, for the add-ons to the current list.

                      • Big bore+ffe review

Thanks to everyone for appreciating my amateurish efforts at review of the Big Bore and FFE.

Another Update. Of late had notices that the rear tyre loses air much faster than is normal. This has been going on since I came from Bangalore on 30 th oct. Didn't get the time to check it though and thus Guess was riding on low pressure for about the last 10-12 days. Was getting a FE of 39-40 kpl with pretty good acceleration so didnt think much about it too.

Got the rear tyre checked yesterday and found a puncture. While repairing the puncture the trye repair guy said the brake pad assly has been fitted incorrectly. There is a slot near the axle right side which locates the assly but was fitted above it. This was done when I last got the brake pads cleaned in mumbai. This also made the pedal a bit hard to operate. But again due to lack of time didn't notice it enough.

Anyways I now realise that the FE which I was getting was actually less than what I was supposed to be getting because the brakes were holding the wheel back as well as the punctured tyre.

                        Lets see what happens now.
