You are advocating the wrong thing Mister!Originally posted by rak2410 View PostBro never shift a gear without using clutch!

Clutchless shifts do no harm in sequential gearboxes. But there's a right way of doing it. You need to match the 'revs' with road speed. Inappropriate methods will only grind the innards.
AFAIK, It's only valid for upshifts and not downshifts. You need to check with some professionals for more info.
@ Julian
Sad to see you leave this forum for doing nothing!
Anyway, Ride safe and take care!

You can change gear without using clutch if you change gears at the right RPM's
@shivank: Yep it only works for the downshift as I think while downshifting you have to attain the right RPM,for low gears its lows so your bike will jerk-stopSpeak Less,Speak Wise!

The bike revs freely till 11.5k and the spark plug colour is nice choclate brown so i dont find any point trying jetting on it now.Originally posted by Drifty View PostAsk him to get back the stock setting, stock air filter, stock main jet and check if it can rev above 8k.And ofcourse, you have to tune the carb each time you change the jet for proper a/f mixture!
Your air filter is dirty, the brownish tinge inside is the dust particles sticked up there.Clean the filter with kerosene/diesel,blow dry it/allow the remaining solvent to evaporate, after that apply any 2T oil over the filter, you are done.
Nice info there Sir.So if the air filter is removed, there will be no restriction and hence less venturi effect, right?
If i get free time with the bike then will fiddle with the jets again.

I have no enmity against the R15ers at all. The reactions earlier were all impulsive. I apologize if you felt offended anytime. You are one of those members I take as an actual senior. Just that you are hell-bent on the R15's feel sometimes.Originally posted by sheelpriyeAnd yes Shivank, sorry to dig up, but the feel of R15 had nothing to do with lean or its angles as pointed out by you. And yes, before you folks ask me to leave this thread (again), I am doing so myself. Peace

If you believe me, then I have ridden the R15 for more than 5k kilometers myself. It's an incredible bike, I know and admit it. But most of those kilometers have either been done in peak-traffic hours or twisties (read:uphill). And, trust me, I am not a RTR fanboy as such but in both these cases the RTR beats R15 for me. So, when people suggest to get R15 with eyes-shut; to a guy who runs around hills or commute to office, and rubbish anyone else's suggestions, I get irked. This is fan-boyism for me, plainly.
I have ridden both the bikes back to back. Downhill and fast corners are great fun on the R15. But going up us is like a herculean task, even on the first gear it needs solid pulling effort. If you ride an R15 daily, that's okay. But if you ride two different bikes back-to-back. That's when you compare. I am no hero or expert, but that's my point of view. Agree or not, that's up to you.
I can tell you the actual time when I felt the R15's feel. I was doing a long sweeping left-hander at speeds of over 120kph on it. The way it felt confident, stable and glued to the road was simply amazing. RTR might be second in handling department but it's nowhere as near stable or confident at speeds over 110kph. R15 is king by a long chalk. That's when you feel what R15 is!!
You can continue posting. I have no problems of you posting anywhere. And who am I? Proxy moderator.
Just that I don't want to be a bad-mouthed fellow when I leave or am banned at Xbhp.
Now, that's one hell of a post. Many thanks, if you read this...

Got fuel tank replaced under warranty
A month after I bought my ride, I noticed a slight petrol leak from the tank right-under side.
Reported this to my ASC-Lotus TVS, Erode. They readily accepted to change fuel tank under warranty. The part took some 20 days to arrive. The tank was replaced last week. Was at first worried about this, but the timely replacement has made me happy!
A request: Will anyone able to check if the 'Apache' stickering on tank (ABS version has black letters and orange outline) available in your SVC? The new tank's sticker is torn at edge and a replacement sticker is not available here. Thanks!Grip. Twist. Ride-with Menacingly FAST Apache 180 ABS!

Yes, the RTR(180's) engine feels more lively and torquey when ridden sanely or otherwise. R15 in the other hand is peaky(much peakier then one would like in for city confines), but yes the surge at over 7k is unmatcheable and it rockets up to three digits in no time. Downshifting is a strict no-no in my books to extract power unless i am in wrong gear. The way i ride i am always in the right gear but while on the R15 it will always feel like its in a gear above, which is why it puts me off and with pillion it just gets worse. Simply put, R15 is a better motorcycle overall but the RTR 180 is closest 'thrill' tool you can buy in the market today(along with the P220 DTSi). No other (under 1.2 lakhs) bike can give that sort of riding involvement in the market today.Originally posted by shivank View PostI have no enmity against the R15ers at all. A motorcycle functions entirely in accordance with the laws of reason, and a study of the art of motorcycle maintenance is really a miniature study of the art of rationality itself.
