      Hi all,

Does the RTR 180 engine head have M7011069 embossed/printed on the underside?
I have heard there are a lot of Chinese manufactured products in the market, so wanted to check.
How can you tell the original apart? Is there any other way?
Ride it like you stole it! But buy your own helmet.

      • Apache RTR 180 For A Newbie

I would like to know in detail about Apache RTR 180. These are my questions.

1.I heard many complaints about vibrations. Is it true? I mean is it bearable?
2.Is there a new 2015 version of RTR 180 Coming?
3.Should I get a ABS or no ABS version?
4.How is the quality of parts and the bike?
5.How well is their after sale service?
6.What are its pros or cons?

I will be doing a test drive later since the nearnest apache showroom is 30kms away, I can only go on a holiday.
Anyone here use a apache RTR 180 ABS ?
I need true judgement on the beast.

Any other bike under 1k (ex) should I look at?

First to reply - but I am not a Professional ABS guy yet as my bike is just 2 months old
          1) Vibrations is the biggest problem, extreme at times till you switch oil at 5k odd km\'s. get a riding gloves and its decent.
          2) Yes, rumors say Apache 200 is coming before April, but don\'t be the first to buy.
          3) ABS please. 10k is a small trade off for the amazing security and safety it offers both on bike and mentally
          4) Quality is amazing! personal opinion, it has some of the best parts in overall quality.
          5) Its good in hyderabad, and if you find any issues, mail the TVS guys and your issue will be fixed ASAP
          6) Pros - a true racing bike for beginners, amazing throttle response, cornering, braking, safety and power!
Cons - VIBRATIONS!! Lower power than 200NS.

NS comes at 1.1 lakhs now, but is worth giving it a shot.
I chose Apache ONLY cos of the ABS, which is vital IMO.

Did first service on my rtr 180 abs yesterday and vibes are totally negligible now . I mean it. Filled in few litres of petrol and the throttle response is superb with good petrol level in tank. And yes, previously I had quoted that after service the bike\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s front brake started screeching. Now after I rode it for some time, even that\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s reducing. And ABS works wonders in stop and go traffic as well as panic braking! And you need to get used to the riding posture and it will set in easily after a month or so. Find a good TVS main dealer and service. Where do you live? tvs showroom 30km far? :O tought tvs showrooms were so common in rural areas too.

              okay here is the deal

1.Vibes are there yes,but it can be controlled and starts after 4k rpm and goes on till 6K again starts at 9K rpm.as you clock kms and pour in decent engine oils vibes can be reduced.every bike vibrates but the apach\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s is a little more. its not a major concern.
2.i do not think so another version of the apache is on cards maybe 250CC in partnerswhip with BMW.
3.in my opinion ABS isnt a total must unless you are planning to ride very hard.
4.quality of parts is good conseidering i have a 2010 model most of the parts have still not got rusted or replaced. i have had problems with the switch gears paint which is starting to wear off but thats fine its 4 years but anyway it depends on maintiance also.i have heard that the new batch of apaches have better build quality and fit and finish i think its true.it looks very well built.
5.in bangalore the service is HORRIBLE. especially triton motors. i am planning to mail TVS as i have few fairing vibrations and sounds.
              6.PROS
*looks stunning both the beast and the old apaches
              * terrific handling bettered if MRF rubbers are on
              * grunty engine
*high revving engine which can take any amount of abuse.
              *less maintance
              * decent mileage if ridden and maintaned properly(i get 38-40 KMPL despite some hard riding,i have got worst mileages also like 25-33 KMPL but i therre was something wroing with the bike)
              *strong acceleration and exhaust note

              CONS

*engine vibrations (not as smooth as FZ R15 or CBR hell even P220 qand 180)
*limited crusing capability with that i mean it cant hold speeds of more than 100 KM/H on the highways for too long
              * slightly aggresive riding posture
*after sales service is not great depends of city though in chennai though i have heard its good
              * stock tyres are bad(TVS remora tyres i have heard are decent)

              Bottom line-

              BUY this bike if you
              1. want a looker which has pulse pounding acceleration.
              2. want a performance bike which has low maintiance
3.ride in the city mostly with occasional trips on the highways
4.plan to ride on the highways cruising at 80-100 KM/H
5.want razor sharp hadling and braking
              6.are hell bent upon ABS
              7.want VFM
              8. want a mod friendly bike

DO NOT buy this bike if you:-
1.ride only on the highways (you will feel the need for more power if you want to cruise at speeds of over 110)
              2.want a smooth revving engine.
3.you dont have the pateince to solve small niggles which might occur here and there( every bike has it but since most the tvs SVC here in bangalore are rubbish i had to put this point)
4.dont like TVS for some reason

other alternavties which are apaches direct rivals and which come under your 1 lakh budget are as follows
              1.Pulsar 180
              2.Pulsar 220
              3.karimza R

if you can streach your budget
              1.pulsar 200NS
              2.R15
              3.CBR 150R

              hope this helps.
              cheers

As we all know the Chinese are masters of replication ,there is absolutely no way of identification. For the original head, go to TVS SVC & place an order for a new head. An Engine-head \\\\\\\"kit\\\\\\\" (I\\\\\\\'m not sure what is included in the kit) would cost any where between 7-8K. You might have to wait for anything between 15-30 days to get the head.If you have contacts in TVS you can get it really fast.

                  Hey Apachians,

I have a concern... After cold start my Apache runs in idle for a while.. when i give accelerations the engine ceases/stops. I have a put choke..start and rev the engine.. after riding for 1-2 KM the engine comes back to normal state. This happens everyday and its frustrating me.. Please help me in getting my Apache back into shape.
                  Proud Apachian !! ;)

Thanks for clarifying that for me. I also notice that the head in the pic has a code US3 embossed/printed on it.

                    I have seen 2 or 3 different A180 heads\' pictures.
They have had US2 or C-6 or C-3 on them.
Some have that netted look or criss-cross hatch pattern. Some don\'t.
But all of them have M7011069 code mentioned.
Are those any different from this US series?

It\'s confusing because I\'m unsure which is original and which are local/chinese copy.

                      1. Yes, every Apache owner complains of vibrations. Even I have complained about the vibes but after riding other 150,180,200,220,250& 390. I feel that the RTR is on the most optimum settings for vibrations, Fuel efficiency & adrenaline filled acceleration. If you are looking for a smooth vibe free ride, LOOK ELSE WHERE. The RTR will feel exciting all the time but when you want to settle down in comfort, its not the bike.
                      2. Yes, there is going to be a new 20XX version of RTR. No one is sure of the \"XX\" value .
                      3. My vote is for ABS, regardless of Apache or NO Apache.
                      4. The bike has a good build quality. You will not get any sound from any parts rattling. Spare parts in small town SVC are available & are in excellent condition.
                      5. The SVC is excellent at pin pointing issues & making them worse or creating new issues. Our aim must be \" Buy parts from TVS SVC, get it fixed else where\"..

                      6. Pros:-
Only bike under 1Lac with ABS.
Really fuel efficient, min.32 & max. 56(Riding style was adjusted to achieve the figures). An avg efficiency of 38-42 kmpl all the time.
Huge fuel tank (16L) Really good for highways.
Has a go anywhere do anything ability.
The bike has an attitude like,\" You look after me, I will look after you\". Regular maintenance like chain adjusting/lubrication, spark plug replacement , engine oil change/check/top-up and cleaning carb./air filter will make the bike run perfect.

                      Cons:-
You need to spend cash on improving the bike. Like, new tyres, engine oil & headlight bulbs.
                      Air cooled engine feels stressed.
                      The bike lacks 6th gear.

Well, when a Chinese or local company can copy the design and dimensions of the head, Do you think it is difficult for them to copy a serial number?

Look at it this way..The head does not move, it is just a casing for the other moving parts(valves, plug, time chain, tappets, rockers, cams etc). As long as the head sits correctly ,without oil leaking outside & allowing the moving parts to move correctly, it will not make a difference if it is local, imported or TVS made.

I rode my RTR 180 for a good 500 kms.. I started hearing chain noises.. So i cleaned my chain lightly using cloth and used the TVS Chain Spray.. Even then i hear small clicking sounds while i move my bike front or back.. Is it necessary to use a chain lube?

Can anyone recommend me a good chain lube or is just the common chain lubes available in local svc enough for the lubing?

I got this as stock with my new ABS. was horrible experience to say the least.
FS on a new bike? my god. the gear shifts were so clunky, had to literally dig up the gear with my foot for shifting.
False neutrals were so common, engine heat was massive. I was driving so much within 5 RPM and at a much more safer run-in as i was scared of it.
At 550 kms and first service i switched to TVS SS. What a beauty this is. Butter smooth shifts, negligible heat (i travel longer distances that too). Is cheap and vibrations are the same. no difference.
I would say, use the SS till 4k odd KM\'s and switch to Motul

recently , the rear of my bike, at times, feels like someone is pushing the wheel away. At lower speeds i do feel some jerking.
Could it be bent forks or maybe (my initial thoughts) its just normal reaction to sloped surfaces and beacons on the middle of the road?
or is it a suspension issue? my suspension is at 4 from bottom.
