I crossed around 120km on odo on my new rtr 180. Initially the engine was rough and had hard gear changes. But now it's butter smooth and gear shifts are so light. Now i doubt whether the run in is over poor i still have to follow speed limit till first service atleast? Also the pick up has become quicker abd engine didn't vibrate at all. I mean it as I'm taking my bike after 3 days and it's surprising now. It's a complete breeze now to rev hard and revs build up quicker than before! Is there anything wrong with the bike?
Nope. Nothing's wrong with the bike.. It's just the engine opening up and it's normal. You should follow the restrictions till you change oil during first service. Even after that, be soft(high speeds are ok but no sudden or quick throttling) till 1500-2000 kms for sufficient run in.

oh okay! its so good to ride it now. the pick up's super fast and I feel easily tempted as I have to wait until 1500km to get over.

Maintain a cut off on the RPM. the speed is tempting I know, the Apache encourages you to twist it hard and is so power hungry. but the Run-in is for the bikes benefit. don't cross 5k RPM till first service. maintain the same till 1000km's too. will be good on the long run.

don't worry....it'll get over soon.. restrict yourself till first service oil change. after oil change, you can ride little faster but no sudden acceleration. gradual acceleration is ok. but to be on safe side, wait for 1000kms to be completed before revving past 5k rpm..happy riding..

hi,

I weigh 60 kg and yesterday I had to take my uncle out as my pillion. He weighs around 80kg. I hadn't inflated the tyre to ride with a pillion. I found it tough to manage the weight initially and started off with some wavy handle bar movement. I had to slow down at a speed breaker. Usually my bike pulls from 12-15kmph or even sometimes lesser speed in 2nd gear. With that idea I didn't change the gear and while negotiating the speedbreaker the vehicle just stalled with a jerk and a bounce. There was a sudden thud on the suspension too. Guess its set in the softest mode in stock condition. My uncle readily jumped out of the bike and nothing serious happened. But I fear if I might have broken the suspensions. Also I usually take my friends out who weigh around 70-75 kg and the bike pulls from 12-15kmph in second gear. Don't know why this happened yesterday. When I cross checked with the manual it was given that the maximum payload was 130kg and I've been violating it all this while. After this I got back the vibrations around 4k rpm which disappeared for a while when I ran for ~120km on odo and didn't use my bike for 3 days. Did I damage my engine and suspensions? I have no clue why this stalling happened yesterday. It was a very small speed breaker.

thanks.

@srinath2494 : You are acting paranoid now. Too much of thinking. I take my mom as pillion every now and then. And the combined weight of ours is way more than what is written. And yes, I am still on stock suspensions. Take it easy , its a mechanical thing. Its bound to what it is made to do.

I am posting this because this is the first time ever I'm owning a bike and I'm bound to ask questions. If not here then where else? And I found noticeable changes after this incident. I can feel more vibes which disappeared for a while. And the stalling never happened before. You would know it very well since you are having an rtr for long. The bike pulls gently if we maintain the revs isn't it? I did do that but this happened. Now I'm only filled with doubts and have an uncle who thinks the bike doesn't work well :P

Stalling : You were in wrong gear or you have not accelerated hard enough to pull the increased weight.
Suspension...its bound to make noise if a heavy rear dampens it more than what it is mentioned.
And vibes, if you act evrytime that something is broken in your bike, you will think that everytime you move.

Ok. So it turns out that the front outer tubes for RTR 180 and RTR ABS are different and the dealers around here doesn't have it in stock. I have asked one dealer to source it for me and it will reach me only by Tuesday. One single piece will cost me around 1500 INR.

Listen to what prateek2210 is saying coz he's right. You're overthinking it. I took my dad with me on my Honda unicorn the day after I bought it for the purchase of a helmet. And I let him ride while I sat behind him and since he rode only a Rx100 for twenty years he was shifting gears a bit rougher than normal (though he corrected himself within minutes of starting being the experienced rider that he is). For the duration of the ride my heart kept bouncing into my throat every time he shifted gears and I thought the bike's gearbox was gone in the end. But I still ride that bike after 8 years without problems.

Point is I was overthinking just as you are now it happens to everyone when their bikes are new. In the real world no one uses the bike for its intended purpose and certainly no one pays attention to the permitted weight limit. And as such the weight limit specifies upto how much weight the bike can carry while still giving its peak performance. Which means you can safely go about 30kgs or so over the specified limit with a very minor performance loss and no danger to the chassis or moving parts.

Also, bikes stall sometimes. That doesn't mean the engine components will break or be damaged.

Stop overthinking and enjoy the ride coz I've found that bikes tend to underperform if the owner is under stress (my personal experience) like our bikes can feel when we are troubled by something.

Cheers

Thanks for your idea mate..

However the problem was with the chain sprocket hold which was loose.. Gave it to the SVC and got it fixed after some thorough checking..

Everything's alright now..

And additional to that i have fed my beast with TVS FULLY SYNTHETIC oil.. Went with TVS SYNTHETIC since i don't want to break the warranty..

Hi,

Choose the one which you feel is good If you ask everyone else they'll only tell their choice of colour and it is absolutely relative :P Know which colour do you like!

Thanks!

Hi!

Sure, I'm open to all suggestions. It's just that I have started exploring every bike I come across only now. And being my first ever bike(also in my family :P ) I have tons of questions everytime something new (atleast to me) happens. I'm not carrying it to any other time other than when I'm posting it here. I'm feeling so excited everytime I see my bike and I love the grandeur on road whenever and wherever I ride (not getting carried away though. I concentrate on road and speed limits too :P ). It's like growing up simultaneously with my bike. Feels so nice whenever I think of my rtr and can't easily digest any damage to it (just because its new and I constantly feel I need to handle/treat it better everytime and I will improve with time )
