My 9 months old RTR 180 is leaking oil in the HEAD. Since the bike is in free service period, the SVC people are going to ignore it....
    How to fix this issue

      Hi Guys,

My Apache RTR 180 1st gen 2010 model has finished 70000 kms and I am facing the issue of oil getting used up pretty fast.
I had heard somewhere that you need to change the engine head after 50000 kms to avoid this.

Please correct me if I am wrong because as soon as the oil level falls the engine becomes very hoarse and starts making noises with vibrations.

Also I am seeing oil leaks near the clutch cable and from various parts of the engine.
Is this normal as the bike has completed 50000 km or this is some grave issue?

      Thank you.

          Thank you for the reply.
I am using Shell semi-synthetic oil. I don't remember the exact name but it cost approximately 400 Rs.

Also I have not seen any leak marks under the bike anytime, but the local mechanic told me that as the engine becomes older, it starts drinking oil like anything.
I don't know if he is telling the truth or not.

Is the engine producing blueish-greyish smoke? If so then your valve seals and/or piston rings are gone and you need to get the piston & cylinder kit replaced, along with valves, valve seals etc. You don't need to replace the head unless it is damaged badly due to mechanical damage. How much oil is your bike engine using up?

No smoke as such but the mechanic told that the exhaust tip is blackish when he checked. So may be oil is getting burnt.
Every 3 months the oil level falls to less than half and the engine starts making noise.

Any idea how much will it cost to replace the piston & cylinder kit, valve and valve seals.?

Also if i replace all of the above, will it be worth in the long run as the bike is already covered so many kms and is more than 5 years old.
It should not be like i replace the above mentioned things and something else in the engine goes for a toss and all it becomes a money loosing issue all the time.

              Thank you.

Getting the piston kit replaced along with head work and all costs somewhere around 5-10k depending on what all needs to be changed. The engine will be practically new, so unless the mechanic goofs up, you should be all set, also its recommended that you get the work done infront of you, buy the parts required yourself. Get a skilled mechanic to do this job.

But now there is no stopping bite at the rear, and some time wheel is not rotating properly also. while checking with TVS ASC, they are asking to change the whole brake calliper set , but the parts are not available as of now. my question is whether any body is facing this issue, if so what is the solution?

and while braking, from front some tick sound is coming, is it normal?

                    thanks

When the disc caliber is cleaned, then the breaking bite will not be there for atleast next 50 to 60 km (approx. ). I faced an issue with disc noice. It was very loud and the ASC cleaned the disc. Then while taking the bike, I felt like my rear breaks are not at all working. Then got it clarified.

Your caliper pistons are jammed as it was unused for a long time. I believe there is a caliper repair kit which has all the necessary "O"rings that can revive the caliper to it's normal working condition.

But before that, try your local two-wheeler scrap yard also called as Gujili market, you might get the whole caliper assy with MC for as low as 2k or even less.

My Apache issue got solved, i changed front caliper, then rear caliper air nut, then one abs oil hose. Now brake is sharp, but I feel initial bite is not there.. may be brake by default is like that.

Ask the SVC to get replace woth the new head under warranty.

Generally many ASC of all bike companies will be like this only they care for their known persons and just don't care others !
Only a few ASC will do their job perfectly.

Regarding to your issue ask them to replace ,Don't leave them .

Do call them often or appear by person ! They should replace it for free .

                              What's the reason ?

I hope ,even After a decade still the older Apaches 160,180 are on sale along with the new generation (2018)Apache !

I'd suggest you visit some reputed local mechanic, he could get the parts from aftermarket & get the required work done on your ride.

It's a shame you're facing parts unavailability issues on Apache, it's weird.
