I checked the spark plug and found it's tip almost white and it's running lean. Also, somewhere in this thread, i read that the bike vibrates a lot if it is running lean. So i wanted to get it checked! Anyway, should i wait till she clocks 3000kms to feel the real power and smoothness?

Its more than a year and a half since I bought my bike . so I am not sure whether I still have warranty . And the last time i left my bike in the TvS service centre for a rear disk fix it took them a month and I also had to complain to the TVS Manager .Originally posted by chicane1879 View PostWhoa..Why are you spending your own money in replacing the parts.
Your bike is in warranty, Right? You can replace every damn thing under warranty!!
And why are you so hell belt upon servicing/replacing the critical parts from an outside mechanic?

Your bike has 2 years/30000km warranty period.Originally posted by chucknorris View PostIts more than a year and a half since I bought my bike . so I am not sure whether I still have warranty . I really dont know why were you charged for the replacement of those parts. Did you replace it in TVS authorised service center? If yes, keep the bills intact so that you can mail/post them to your regional service manager to get the refund for the same and drag the dealership/service center personnel by their collar to get the job done.
It's daylight robbery if they are charging you for faulty parts!!

That's a mistake by your side.Originally posted by chucknorris View PostI had it checked by a Local mechanic . Would that Void my warranty ?
Next time, replace things under warranty from authorised TVS SVC. Only after expiry of the warranty period you can go in for local and trusted mech.

I understand that But now that I have already had a local mechanic check it . Can I still go to the service centre and have it replaced ?Originally posted by chicane1879 View PostThat's a mistake by your side.

I have ripped my grey ghost to 110 kmph a couple of times before the run in period was over. No issues with her at all. Am at around 9k kms on the odo. All I am saying is, control your Need For Speed for an extended period to ensure your baby has an extended life span. Just because you have a beast between/under your legs, doesn't mean you show it off to everyone. Pun intended!!Originally posted by streetglowie View PostThanks for the reply

I am careful with my riding cos, I dont have a decent mechanic (AFAIK) around my area who will be open on a weekend to educate me and help me increase my baby's performance and life. I depend solely on my local TVS SVC guys (in Vashi; TVS Kapoor) for advise, and they aren't to be trusted blindly. (BTW, people in Navi Mumbai with an A180, need your help with a good mechanic who works on a weekend, please post/pm anything). If you know of any mechanic around your place (BTW, since you are in your free SVC zone, always get it done from the authorised SVC) and have enough moolah in your wallet, by all means, test her power and smoothness.
Also, I had an query with the rest of the owners of A180. A subordinate of mine advised me, not to give my baby for the last (5th) service. He owns an A160. Claims that his baby was royally buggered by the SVC guys before it was returned after the 5th Service {the last free service}. (The Vashi SVC: TVS Kapoor: They have given me whole load of ballies so far)) Does that make sense, or is an urban myth???

Lie as if you never lied before!!! Don't over sell it, but definitely Lie!!!! Ensure its fool proof (Considering the SVC guys in most of the SVC, they are fools) lie!!Originally posted by chucknorris View PostI understand that But now that I have already had a local mechanic check it . My bike is still under warranty. I want to get some performance mods done, without affecting her over all Life span. Any and all help appreciated. Before that, need help from people around Navi Mumbai directing me to the nearest tire shop where I can score more Pirelli MT71 (As mentioned by n.krishna.p in post #6638) or better tires for rains!!!

Fine.. I'll ride her soft for a few months then! That's for enlightening me n setting things straight! BTW, i'm at the service centre now. Get them to tighten all the loose ends (With the vibs, comes a decent number of loosened nuts and bolts). This should help you with the vibs, upto an extent. Ask them about the lean mixture, (your detailed observations about the spark plug). If they agree great! or you have to convince them. Try and get you way out the Oil change. Get the Oil changed to the oil of your choice. Don't enforce, see if it's possible. I had a noise from the break pads in the front tire. If you do, please get that checked. This will ensure your disc breaks are unharmed. This took me 4 Service to be fixed. Get them to wash, oil and grease your bike proper. Thumb rule, since your bike is just around 1.5 K old, she should be/ sound like she just came out of the showroom. Try to get the service done in front of you. Once they did service the bike in front of me, and she was like butter till the next service...Originally posted by streetglowie View PostFine.. I'll ride her soft for a few months then! See my replies in bold.
First of all does your mechanic have a gauge to set the tappet clearance? I bet he would not have it. How would he be able to set it at 0.6 mm for the inlet and 0.8 mm for the exhaust? So why bother too much at this workshop. By the way may I ask which is this workshop located and the name of the mechanic.Originally posted by pranav_salieri View Postguys i have an interesting info to share! i went to my local mech to tighten up my rear footpeg. and i told him about the tappet sound sound he said it was okay and the engine should get heated up it seems and if he removes the tappet sound then the bikes performance mileage will drop it seems .is this true???
also my bike's handle starts to shake when i take my hands off at about 60-63 km/h it shakes like hell only at that speed even at 100 it doesnt shake! i told this to him and he said its normal and to stop this shaking he has to change the tyre! is this true???
How did he conclude its the tyre. did you have a puncture recently? If yes, did you the beeding seated properly to ensure that the wobbling doesn't occur. I would not buy this tyre change thingy unless I see there is something grossly wrong in the thread pattern or the beeding. Even an improper wheel alignment can cause wobbling.
Which service center are you talking about? Please provide more info. Being pissed off with the service center will not fetch you any good results, it will add to your frustration.Originally posted by pranav_salieri View Post@ haxor- my svc sucks big time! thats why i give it a local but he's pretty good puts only geniune parts.but is he wrong??? if he is then ill stop giving him
If possbile do meet me up at chamarajpet this saturday, will help you out to get this resolved.
At the current moment a big NOOriginally posted by pranav_salieri View Post@garry,chicane do you buy my mech's statement???
There will be tappet clearance and by default the tappets would be set marginally lose. This is to offset any reduction in the tappet clearance when the engine is heated up. If the RPM meter is the culprit you have got all the right to get it replaced under warranty. However, note that you need to head to the authorized service center to get this replaced and your mechanic will not able to do it.Originally posted by pranav_salieri View Postdrifty- not vibes the handle bar feel's like as though its wobbling! i mean it! it happens only at 60-63 kmh.so should i get my tappets resetted? and guys i just hate my RPM meter. now all of a sudden it has started dancing like sheila ki jawani at 8-9k rpm. its irritaing like hell to see it! shoul i change it under warranty?? and the paint from the kick starter has started to wear off! i mean WTF!!! poor paintjob!!!any more ppl experinecing paint coming off from any part of the bike???
The kick start lever coating/paint fading is common. Unless you want it to look like new, get them painted.
PM me if you need further help.

Agreed being in bangalore there are a lot of good sc s where you can get your bike serviced if not the one which you are going to take it to another sc.Btw which sc are you going to pranav ?Originally posted by n.krishna.p View PostSee my replies in bold.

Me and the chief mechanic picked up an arguement about the carb settings and i argued that my bike is running lean and it is the reason for vibrations but he strongly opposed it. He also openly said that he can't adjust it whatsoever! I got frustrated and gave away the job sheet and came out. I'm now going to the head office to elevate this issue as per the guidance of the sales executive for he had been helpful since the day i booked! Hope everything turns out well and people, wish me luck!Originally posted by Newbie View PostGet them to tighten all the loose ends (With the vibs, comes a decent number of loosened nuts and bolts). Not that I don't rip her around, but I usually am trying to find how she responds and then ease off!! Personally, I know I will miss her grunt on acceleration, if she is at the workshop!
