I have used only MDH and Shanthi till now and i can tell surely that Shanthi sucks to the core while MDH is a bit better...

i don't see any pic whatsoever
2) see the third attached pic of orange Fi. if you are talking about the circled part having no rubber cover then yeah its like that only.
3) see the 1st attached pic of white RTR. there is a rubber_elbow_bend kind of a thing on the right side of the engine. Pull it up with your hand. This will expose the spark plug. Then use the 10mm box spanner given in your toolkit to unscrew the spark plug.
regarding the brake pads, just bend in front of the disc and try to get a close look at it. refer the second attached pic to get an estimate of how much is too much. When the middle grooves seen in the new brake pads (right brake pad of the 2nd pic) start to shallow out and disappear(left brake pad in the 2nd pic), you should change them.
4) see if the ring is completely covered in dirt. If yes, it is not a big issue if the amount of dirt is minor, but get it rectified when you find time. If no, then dont worry, until nothing goes in or comes out, everything will be fine.
Btw, check the oil level after every 400-500kms or 2-3 weeks interval. Thats enough.
5) I dont know what to say. It is pretty normal but if you really want to check, then keep your bike in the sun for 4-5 mins. Try smelling around the cap to see if you can smell petrol.
Else check your mileage. If you are getting a satisfactory figure, then just forget about it.
Have updated the pics so You can comment on those.
Could get much idea from the FI pic, so please check My pictures and comment.
Thanks for locating the spark plug.Is it safe to open by Myself?
Will check about the brake pad tomorrow before going out.
Yeah, the whole ring is covered with dirt, have cleaned the cap too this time. Will check again next time. Read a lot that bike goes kaput on low engine oil level, hence I check it weekly.
Never noticed any petrol smell from the bike, as in afternoon, sometimes My bike is in sun for 2-3 hours. Getting a mileage of 40kmpl. Just wanted to clarify the doubt so asked.Apache RTR 180 Bike Parts CatalougeOriginally posted by MirhawkI couldn't repair the Brakes, so I just made the Horn more louder!

yeah its been pretty long. in the mean time i did a bangalore-ooty run, bangalore-anantpur run, bangalore-hosreley hills run, bangalore-kanva run. planning for pondy, coorg and kodachadri in next couple of months. :POriginally posted by Garry_Menace View Postkunt-roll your emo-sons

@dead_piper
Well, sad to hear that. Though, I've never heard something like this from anywhere else, I wish its just a different case with the guys who've already sold their babes.
Anyways, long time man! Good to see you back.

I too haven't had any problems with the bike till t'day. I try to keep it in good shape as far as i can. Mom often complains about me sparing so much time with the menace

I'am NOT saying this out of pride, but two sincere Mechs at my SVC have told me that my menace has got more pick up and smoothness (they are all smiles when seeing me at the SVC). I think it's because i, like many Apachian's did the run-in properly, did the services promptly, and attending quickly to any niggle that might come up.

2) In the second photo, I have a black rubber cover at the beginning of clutch lever. In the third image, it is not there for the front break lever, is it like that only or am I missing it?
it comes only one side (for clutch) as u cannot place one for the brake lever as it wont fit there coz of the master cylinder placement.
4) I check oil level each sunday. I have noticed that whenever I remove the cap, there is some dirt beneath, on the ring, no matter how tight I fit it. Is it ok or should I get it checked?
its normal.,
5)I have noticed that when I remove the petrol cap, the rubber seems to be a bit out of it's place, just a little bit. Can it lead to petrol evaporation?
its normal. after a while u will feel that the rubber has become loose:P
U WORRY TOO MUCH ABOUT YOUR RIDE. stop doing it and it will all be fine.
i got a pirelli sports deamon which is 120 80 and it fits perfect and as someone mentioned it has increased my topend. mileage remains same i guess and no feel in loss of pick up.Originally posted by nick1979 View Posti also thought of fitting larger rear tyre of pulsar 220, 120/80..17...but when i carefully look at the swing arm, i realize its not possible cuz not enough space to fit wider tyres...
bridgestone agencies - rajkumar road. i brought my bike from there have always given there for service and they always FIX your bike according to your needs.Originally posted by rharish90 View PostIs there any good SVC for Apache like Auto-Service for Bajaj in Bangalore?
its not your chain. its your sprocket which has gone bad and is making the chain be loose. and also your sprocket rubber. put some lube to the chain for the time being. do check your sprocket onceOriginally posted by social View PostWhat are the indication of a worn chain?
My chain tightens and loosens on its own. And I can hear a kut-kut sound whenever I rotate the rear wheel... The chain has some tight spots and loose spots. Spent an hour today trying to set the chain right but in vain... Visually the chain looks in pretty good shape.
What is the lifespan of a chain? It's already done 17.5k. I am planning to change it around the 20k mark.

Hey guys... i need some info, what are the signs of a damaged clutch plate... when my carb was changed and my pickup dropped(AND i have hardly touching 110 speed... wheres as i previously touched 135...), i went to castrol bike zone and asked hiom to change my carb settings, he said that my clutch plate or some clutch thing was damaged and i need to replace it... but when i went to TVS A.S.S. after that he said its just improper carb settings and said he will fix it... I would like to know if there are any symptoms of damaged clutch which i can observe myself...
Thanks for the info...Originally posted by harishmenace View PostKiran TVS, you wont get better TVS A.S.S in hyderabad.Apache 180

when u do de-clutch while riding ur bike lags - best way to check if ur clutch plates are gone.Originally posted by saipranav View PostHey guys... i need some info, what are the signs of a damaged clutch plate... when my carb was changed and my pickup dropped(AND i have hardly touching 110 speed... wheres as i previously touched 135...), i went to castrol bike zone and asked hiom to change my carb settings, he said that my clutch plate or some clutch thing was damaged and i need to replace it... but when i went to TVS A.S.S. after that he said its just improper carb settings and said he will fix it... Man, let me make it very clear to you. If you don't want me to deflate the tyres of your ride and tie it up somewhere with chains, don't ever dare to make me feel so much jealous again.

yea no problem opening the spark plug on your own. Thats why its built that way with easy access so that user can easily have a look at it. All companies know that spark plugs are a nice way to check the tuning of a bike. Just make sure that you fix it back and place the rubber cover all the way in just like the way it was.Originally posted by Mirhawk View PostHave updated the pics so You can comment on those.

and i saw the pictures. Yes the brake lever doesnt have any rubber flap like the clutch. The only reason that comes to my mind is since there is no cable involved in braking, therefore it doesnt need so much of protection.
40kmpl from a RTR 180 is pretty good.If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough - Albert Einstein
I think i know less than what you think i know.

Yeah, not ALL the old people are here now. Renny has sold his machine and don't know why he doesn't come here now. I mean, I think he has left xBhp completely, not just this thread. Nox is also close to completely inactive these days. You can find gixxer, drifty etc. only now, and obviously the newer guys
And yeah, LijoK bro is also active, but he's on his LEH ride these days
so, not able to come online. He'll be back as soon as he returns.

Guys, I'm new to biking (just started learning 2 days back) and have hit the first hurdle!
Sometimes (say 1 in 10 times), when I shift from 1st to 2nd on my Apache, it goes into the neutral gear. Am I doing something wrong? Or should I take it to the service center?

Its normal . nothings wrong with bike, every one would have faced this situation in beginning. its tough to find neutral but you will get hold of itOriginally posted by prateekm View PostGuys, I'm new to biking (just started learning 2 days back) and have hit the first hurdle!

Err, I meant, I am finding that it goes into the neutral gear when I am not expecting it! Like, when I shift from 1 to 2, sometimes (rarely) it will go into the neutral. Hope I am explaining it properly, I am a noob when it comes to biking terms.Originally posted by kantu View PostIts normal . nothings wrong with bike, every one would have faced this situation in beginning. its tough to find neutral but you will get hold of it
