Check your spark plug...If it is whitish , then your engine is running LEAN AFR, if it is Dark Then it is running RICH..,if it is LIGHT TAN color the AFR mix is correct.
Hello, i made a mechanic clean my air filter in front of me, he also said there might be something wrong with the spark plug, so he removed and cleaned it and kept it back...

The TVS mech is very sure that the gear box is the culprit... during the 2.5 hour test run he changed the carb tuning a number of times and tried all possible tunings so that he can cross 105kmph... but that was just not happening... he was adament that its carb tuning problem only but when all those tunings didnt work out he concluded that its the gear box... he also said that two 160 FI bikes had this problem previously in a very severe manner...
below are some of the spark plug pics which i took yesterday... you can see some more pics a few pages back... sorry again for the poor pic quality but the best cam i have atm is a 3 mp phone cam...

I wonder how gear box can be the problem for bike not reaching above 8 K RPM.....The Pic of plug shows that you are running very lean AF mix, esp., look at the ground electrode, it is glazed white, which means it is running hot and not even a small amount of carbon ,as on the plug can be seen...
Good luck to you, and hope SVC solves your problem.

PSR sir,I think it might not be lean cause the whitening around the electrode is because of the poor quality of the pic, this happens when the pic is not clear.
@Saipranav:,Spark plug reading needs to be done with proper light/magnifying glass so please try to upload a better quality pic for easy judging.BTW,the RTRs are equipped with twin electrode spark plug, yours is a single electrode, which spark plug is that?have you checked the heat range for if its compatible with the engine?

That's the first thing i asked him when i saw the pic yesterday. He mentioned that it was the plug which his bike came with. The plug he mentioned about was CHAMPION PC4H .I knew earlier ones used to come with BOSCH UR5DDC - twin electrode.

My RTR 180-ABS has BOSCH UR5DDC- Twin Electrode..

ODO is now at 420Kms. Manual says first service is b/w 500-750Kms. Can I give to service just after 500Kms?

              • changes for comfortable riding

Now it seems my body has adapted to the riding posture of Apache. Wrist pain/back pain gone now. The forward riding position feels good while braking.

The only thing is I keep my heel on foot peg and toe on gear shift lever and after 15-20 minutes of riding the ankle starts to pain. If I take the toe from gear shift lever and keep it pointed towards ground, it feels better but it's uncomfortable in long rides.

The manual says 'gear shift lever position can be set to your convenience.' Has anyone changed the position ? (slightly lower could be comfortable for me) Also, how to adjust the clip-on handlebar?

Hey dude, i just happened to glance through my manual and saw that BOSCH twin electrode is mentioned in the engine specs page... i'm confused as well as scared... is this spark plug gonna damage my bike or something? ... and how did this spark plug come into my bike... i feel its there from the beginning...
BTW the MANUFACTURING date of my bike is march 2010.

No need to worry too much dude,if TVS has started to put champion plugs then you need not worry.
There could be a few reasons for it being there.

                    1. TVS themselves might have changed the plug due to whatever reasons. For ex the TCI unit is different to that of the old RTR180's(different mapping) and there are small changes made at stages.
The manual may not reflect these small changes,as they are printed in bulk and given.

                    2. Then the other reason could be that the ASC guys might have swapped the plug, which might not be a good thing.

Spark plug changes might have been done to batches by TVS.So it might not reflect on some other purchase done by a Xbhpian.
Do one thing, just confirm it from the ASC and if possible from other RTR180 owners who bought the bike along with you.

Just went to TVS ASC as they said my bike will be ready by today morning only...
They never fail to give me a shock.
He said he needs another 4-5 days to work on my bike(I'm guessing he still didnt start working because he said 'you bike is next sir', 'we are going to open the engine and check everything'
I dont know wtf is the problem with these guys, at first they deny there is any problem, now when they know there is a problem, they take so much time to start working on it, they took my bike at 2:00 p.m. yesterday, even though i went there by 9:30 a.m. and they still have not started working on it...
**** the lazy morons of TVS...

Yeah bro, that's how most TVS ASC's mech's attitudes are. Then ask the other bike owners who bought from the same batch about the spark plug.
Even better, mail the TVS officials themselves about the spark plug along with the problems your bike is having. That should clear up things.

All batches have the Bosch spark plug, leave the RTRs even the TVS Flame have twin electrode.TVS never use Champion spark plug in their bikes, its a local brand mostly used in HeroHonda bikes, your Bosch twin electrode might have been replaced by the SVC guys!Get a new one.

Keeping both the bold parts in mind, I strongly recommend you to contact the higher officials and to tell them both these things. I may be wrong and lets hope I should be wrong at it, but it seems that the SVC guys are cheating you by taking out the originals from your bike.

But I am wondering why someone would swap the plug (Its cheap at 114 bucks)... A used BOSCH spark plug has no value in my opinion. Most probably a mix-up or something during earlier service.

But you should definitely put a new twin electrode spark next time.
