IOC because it's 91 octane vs speed's 87 (unless you're using speed 93 or 97).Originally posted by Rtrlover83 View PostHey guy's
I know good quality unleaded fuel from a reputed pump is best for our rides. But among BP Speed (been using this brand for some time) and IOC Xtra Premium, which one would you guy's vouch for our bike or bike's in general?
I'am inclined to use Speed/Xtra Premium as these fuels contain cleansers that might be of some help.

Hey i'm not sure if there is anything like speed 87... because back in bharat stage III we had 89 octane as standard now we have 91 octane as standard so everyone must be using 91 octane as normal unleaded petrol... and i think one government company, BP has petrol above 91 octane with the name speed 93/97... i dont think anyone sells petrol below 91 octane now...Originally posted by julianpaul View PostIOC because it's 91 octane vs speed's 87 (unless you're using speed 93 or 97).
and i guess shell super unleaded is 93 octane... can someone please confirm this?
Can someone tell me what do tci and idi stand for... and how do i know if my tci,idi or coils are damaged... is there any way i can know without going to a mech ... a simple way to check?Last edited by saipranav; 09-20-2011, 12:49 AM.Apache 180

TCI= Transistor controlled ignition.Originally posted by saipranav View PostCan someone tell me what do tci and idi stand for... and how do i know if my tci,idi or coils are damaged... is there any way i can know without going to a mech ... a simple way to check?
IDI= Inductive discharge ignition.
The ignition is of IDI type and it's controlled by TCI.It's the green box.Then there will be the ignition coil.
If there's a problem with these then there will be "missing" in revs.It will feel like the bike is being switched off and coming back to life.
The same thing will be felt if the carb setting is wrong(too rich).Last edited by gixxer_junkie_m; 09-20-2011, 02:12 AM.Life begins, once you hit the power band !!

Yesterday my mechanic cleaned the spark plug completely after which i went for a ride of about 5 kilometers... ripped the bike to check is there is any problem and the problem was still there, today morning i took a pic of my spark plug. Can someone tell me if this is rich or lean... i guess its normal...Originally posted by gixxer_junkie_m View PostTCI= Transistor controlled ignition.

Cant see the pic properly but if the tip is white its lean and if black its rich. Optimum colour should be golden/brown.Originally posted by saipranav View PostYesterday my mechanic cleaned the spark plug completely after which i went for a ride of about 5 kilometers... ripped the bike to check is there is any problem and the problem was still there, today morning i took a pic of my spark plug. I'm pretty sure that regular speed used to be 87 (might have been 88 or 89, kinda confused with all the numbers) octane back when it came out, which is why IOC had the advantage since it was 91. Now i'm not sure what the status is on speed, seems 93 isn't available any more, which makes sense if regular speed is 91 itself.Originally posted by saipranav View PostHey i'm not sure if there is anything like speed 87... because back in bharat stage III we had 89 octane as standard now we have 91 octane as standard so everyone must be using 91 octane as normal unleaded petrol... and i think one government company, BP has petrol above 91 octane with the name speed 93/97... i dont think anyone sells petrol below 91 octane now...

I got my fi silencer changed in warranty for excessive rusting, the entire bend pipe was rusted. They didn't accept easily and i had to contact a senior official for it. he did mention that he's doing it as a favour for me or whatever BS and that the new one would also rust in 6 months! and bingo, it's about as bad as the old one now. Plus the new one is probably from a cheaper oem because the welding is really crap compared to my old one. so if it's only the bend pipe that's rusted, no point bothering. i'm quite fed up with tvs parts quality now.Originally posted by rajeshmushtang View Posthey guys do they (svc) change the exaust under warrenty 8months n 11k km old
mine got fully rusted!!!
Edit: more on petrol, IOC actually:

BS II and BS III http://www.iocl.com/Products/GasolineSpecifications.pdf
BS IV http://www.iocl.com/Products/MS_BS_I...0_Current_.pdf
Can someone make sense of this, i don't really have the time right now.Last edited by julianpaul; 09-20-2011, 04:37 PM.
