  • got oil leak repaired

got my rtr 180 today evening.....the cylinder head gasket was worn out due to overheat....but it is well now...done in warranty.BIke is now smoother than earlier in higher rpms.
But at last when my bike was being handed to me....the owner of showroom told sm to check idle setting....but he messed up with air fuel mixture screw....now the bike is acting different.....when u engage clutch while changing gear the rpm sudden increase with 0.5-1k even if throttle is released completely....then i only adjusted AF screw at home...now the problem is minimised a lot but i want the default settings since they were ideal....Please tell me the ideal AF screw settings for rtr180....and also light me up about details of AIR FUEL mixture settings....how it affect engine performance and mileage...thanks...please reply.

      • Today ,I took the Bike to Local TVS ASC for Changing oil to Elf MOTO 4 Gold 20W40.I also asked Service Guy to Ride the Bike in a bad surfaced Road.He Also heard the Sound, His Arguement was it is the Sound from "Pump"(of front shockers) and it is Pretty Normal. But ,Later I consulted with Other Mechanics and They Later Told Frankly that This "Thud" Noise in case of My RTR180 is a Defective Front Shock's Pump.
So ,I am Going to leave the Bike Tomorrow for Service at Cochin Motors and Warranty Replacement of Front Shocks.Hope They Will Replace it.

TVS ASC Told that Some RTR160s and Even Few RTR180s also have this Issue in Front Shocks. In My Bike's Case It is Clearly Audible(Even if someone pretends to be deaf!).The Element Responsible for this Noise is "Air Pump" or "Piston" to be Precise.

I Searched for Gulf 4T 20W40 in My Town.No One have Stock.Got a ELF MOTO 4 GOLD 20W40 and Replaced Oil and Oil Filter.
        My Experience:
After a 5kms Run , A Burnt Smell came.I experienced Clutch Slippage 2 Times;Don't Know if It is related.
Gears Become Smooth to Change compared to TVS-TRU4.There is a reduction in Noise; But Tappet Noise is Now Clearly the Main Noise from the Bike.
Now ,Whether Above Points are Placebo Effect or Not,You have to Wait Till Few days.I Bought this since @chicane1879 recommended it.

There is a Very Very Slight Oil Leak Near that "Round" Rubber Thing Which is Glued into the Cylinder.I Doubt this Happened Due to Foundation Bolts Become Loose.

Coming to the Main Issue- Front Shock ,One of them is the Culprit Here.I will have to Find a Bad Patch of Road tomorrow to "Demonstrate" the Thud Noise.I am worried How to Convince Pretended Deaf Ears.Wish Me Luck RTR180'ians.

ELF oil is nothing to write home about. IMO, it is a very average oil.

If the shock absorber is the problem, either the oil level in the shock is too low from the factory or there is a leak. Search for oil marks on the forks. If there are no oil marks, just add some oil to the forks and see.

Tappet noise is a characteristic of the Apache!!

          • @Abhijeet:I was contended about TVS-TRU4.and here all available oils are either semi synthetic or very poor quality(packed in plastic covers). If You Think this Oil Will not do any good to My Bike ,I can even change the Oil back to TRU-4.

But Shock issue needs a valid replacement.Back in 2002 ,I got My Suzuki Fiero's Rear Shocks Replaced after few Months!.

            • I used this oil once. And I was like, when can I get rid of this one. Valvoline 20W40is what I use. Gulf 20W40 is also said to be a good one. Else, even good old Castrol will do!

I would say, use this oil for a 1000km if possible, then replace.

              • ^OK Fine(Will be Dumping that Oil Soon ;But ,Gear Shift is heaven with this Oil).Any Idea about very slight Oil Leak near Tappet Cover(I guess that "Round" O-Ring Like thing)?Should I Complain to Service?I have a feeling that Bike Needs Tappets/Valve Clearances reset Properly.

Yeah, show them that. A good rubber sealant at the gasket should fix it.

About valve clearance, allow them to do it only if they have feeler gauge. Else, adjusting tappet by "feel" would be disastrous! I have had my share of these disasters, so I should know!

try to avoid tru4...it's not high performance oil as the RTR's engine demands....

slight oil deposit around the fins of the head is completely normal with RTR..
                    dont worry for that

That Very slight oil leak just left of tappet cover ,I feel is because of loose Foundation Bolts.Anyways, Will leave bike for service tom.

                          • I left My RTR180 at Cochin Motors for Service. They are still insisting that "Thud" Sound comes due to front Mudguard making the noise and front forks are OK.Well ,I cannot completely dispel their claims ,since I took test ride of Another RTR180 and it also makes that "Thud" Sound. But ,Here in Muvattupuzha ,Local Service Centre Figured out it is the Front Shock's "Pump" making the Noise.Finger crossed.I will get the Bike Tomorrow.
Another Work is ,Adjusting Tappets(Valve Clearance) and Fixing that Slight Oil leak with Most Probably a New Gasket.

Can Someone Share TVS Motors Customer Support email Id? I will ,anyways shoot a mail to them ,since it is totally unexpected for New RTR180s Coming with This "Thud" Noise while Riding through bad surfaced Roads.

@REVZ_RACING:Is Your Last Comment showing Disgust about RTR?

I never had that problem in My 160. why dont you try removing the front mudgaurd then ride and see if you still get the same sound.
