Speedo shows more speeds for every rpm. 5th gear, 4000 rpm shows 54 or so.
Performance gain is not noticeable but a certain degree of smoothness shows.

Grip is increased noticeably despite less size, enough for lean cornering and stoppies. Front feels safe at extremer leans too.

For RTR: I earlier tested brand new RTR's and even the new 180 had tyres with grip that was lesser than my old Pulsar's MRFs.
One lean on the flyover corner made everything clear - Great Chassis but gripless tyres.

So, I suggest you get this mod done. RTR's amaing chassis deserves such tyres! Best of luck.
So i can replace the stock tyres with the R15 rear tyre without any problem?

      • @grafix:carburetter cleaned,serviced by TVS Service.
I tried the reserve to reserve method and currently mileage hovers around 40kmpl(Highway speed approx above 60kmph) But ,Since the front disk setup got some replacements including brake lever etc ,I suspect ,that earlier front brake was applied slightly which could have affected the fuel economy as it hinders forward motion.
BTW ,My RTR180's Mileage was never above 40-42kmpl till now.Since I service in a TVS service centre situated in a semi-rural town ,most service guys there are interested in having more mileage in power bikes like RTR160/180 .(Last time ,they boasted about another white RTR which gives 50kmpl mileage,MAY BE possible.)
@renny:I think they already adjusted spark plug gap :S Time to Show Up to Local Mechanic?

dont waste your money on IRIDIUM, it doesnt even give a crisper throttle responce, forget the increase in power.
stick to the original twin electrode one.

RTR 180 can be tuned to give 65kmpl...
but in that case you'll ruin up the engine real good, will have no power, and you engine will run hot, if you guys are gettin 35-40kmpl with the kind of throttle response and power it gives, stay happy..

That is precisely what I used to feel before I tried it out.

We had an 3 RTR160's in one ride with many straight roads + some slightly uphill inclines. One was running stock and freshly out of the SC from service. Another was almost due for service and running a G-Power. The Third was somewhere in between the service cycle and had a lot of rattles and was decently harsh (needing some attention and tuning) and was running an Iridium plug with Spitfire Cable. This bike also had a lot of vibes at 70-80 KMPH band.

There is a clearly marked difference in the way each bike pulled and especially the acceleration after 70 KMPH all the way till 130 KMPH. Simply put, it works. The bike running on Iridium with Spitfire used to ride smooth all the way till 130+ KMPH without showing signs of stress and the other two would be catching up and finding loss in power. Particularly the one on stock plug. After riding the 3rd bike I rode the first bike. I felt it is loosing power from almost at 60 KMPH.

No quantitative measures available. I rode all three back to back. Iridium plug with Spitfire cable definitely works on an RTR. But I cannot say whether that is the result you'd want and/or that is the difference in performance you'd be happy with. Or, for that matter, if you'd feel the difference is VFM.

              Hope that helps.

              +1 on that.

                • @ Guitarfreak.. yes you can install the R15 tyres on the RTR. Just make sure you get it replaced using a tyre removal machine. Don't take it to the el cheapo tyre walla who uses those bars to remove the tyre cause it'll ruin the rims. I had asked the same question here before and one of the forum members told me it can be done. I also saw a RTR 180 with the MRF Zapper FY Front but with a MRF Vyde 120 Rear in traffic today. I wanted to ask the rider about the tyres but he was riding way too fast for me to catch up. What tyres are the rest of you guys using?

i used the IRIDIUM alone (with no spitfire cables) that's why i think i didnt got the results i was expecting...will try with the cables now.
                    thanks for the detailed review

                    • Thanks rennycornelius & Hydbiker for sharing your experiences.

I wonder how to install splitfire cable as stock cable is permanently attached to ignition coil.(do we need to cut it?)

Wont a 120 section tyre strip of performance and mileage on the RTR?

i think the cables come with their own coils as they give boost in the current (real purpoes of the spitfire cable)

                          HYDBIKER little light on this.

little bit,as the contact of the tyre with the road will be increasing by few MM's the engine will have to work little hard on that, and this will hamper the top end by 4-5kmph and avg by 4-5kmpl too.
But 120 will be out of proportion for both RTR 160 and RTR 180, the good upgrade is 110 with 60 or 70 profile.

It all begins with a thumb-start -- Oh, wait, I forgot the kill-switch

ZAPPER Q is one good tyre to go for, it's available in 110 size and it's gr8 for dry as well as wet, but i'll still recommend to fit R15 tyres (MRF again), they'll look thin but will serve the purpoes real good...
