Today had a circuit race with my friend on FZ-S..No doubt Fz was left behind on the straights but on the corners i was too afraid to push the bike to limits.Undoubtedly, that guy has awesome control over the machine and was leaning the bike at angles that i can't even imagine to attempt..maybe that's what i thought and dropped the plan for the time being..
But as soon as the race got over i decided to try some peg-scraping action with the RTR...I don't know what's the matter with it but at speeds over 70-80kmph the rear feels as it'd slide away and at times,i felt like i am gone but thank god,it didn't happen!

Now ..Do the tires suck? And one should not attempt these actions with these!..Or is it more of a mental affair than technical?..Should i stop practicing it without swapping the tires?
Help me out please ..i want to lea(r)n these things!
    w.r.t the blue bolds...

i have rode a FZ several times...and on my first ride..i tried to lean it as one does on a race track (considering it has the widest rear tyre in the current market)....guess what after a certain angle i felt a big thud..lyk some part of the bike hitting the road....i examined and found out it was the foot pegs ! ! !....

actually in a FZ there is an extension of say 2 cm towards the bottom of the foot pegs..so it just makes it impossible to lean after a certain angle..and angle of lean which is possible on a FZ is nowhere near the race standards....

no doubt FZ tyres rock...coz of the compound and the width...so i guess it wld feel more glued 2 the track in comparison 2 a RTR 180..

    @ TVS tyres...

well i have a TVS victor which i used to ride during my engineering days..
it also had TVS tyres and boy..i bet u wont try 2 even brake hard if the tarmarc have even a hint of sand on it....i had lot of scary moments...coz i usually love to brake late and hard ....

i guess the compound of the TVS tyres are harder compared to the MRF.....so it hardly sticks to the tarmac..and if it is wet or sandy..GOD save u ! ! !..

One more surprise...i am yet 2 change my rear tyre ! ! !..its been more than 6 years ...and my avg kms is lyk 35-40 per day ! ! !

    • Guys I'm having a hard time finding a 110/80 17" TL rear tyre replacement for RTR180.... is there one out there??? I dont want to change the specs, but just the brand...

Found these from Pirelli, but for front fitment
      110/80 - 17 M/C 57H TL
      110/80 - 17 M/C 57V TL
Can they be used for the rear????

      • I think you can used it but there would be difference in the ply rating and also the pattern design is more suited for front fitment.

        @pritish
Even i have a 91 months old Victor which is going great guns. The tyres which came stock in the first generation were simply outstanding tyres i have ever come across.Impeccable grip in every situation.I remember tackling corners even in weight roads something which i would never attempt on the RTR.

The subsequent versions came with tyres which were worse and i dont know why the hell did TVS dump those tyres, may be because those didnt have much lasting. The Rear TVS tyre lasted me only 23k but the current Zapper i am using has done over 34k and still has some tread left in it!!

FEELER BOLTS buddy, they are actually there to break your lean, as they are set to that limit after which it becomes impossible for the bike, and tyre to lean.

thanks for the terminology....yeah i know its been placed intentionally by yamaha....so that people lean within limits..otherwise guys lyk us will cause mayhem on city roads....

Do I need to sustain at full throttle to get to more rpm??

Is there any problem with my bike.

                Share ur ideas guys....plz...
You can look at changing the standard air filter to K&N, wait until the bike puts in 2500 KM. In the meantime, slowly attune the vehicle to gradual higher speeds. This way the bike piston will have uniform wear and tear at high speeds. De carbonising the engine at 4500-5000 KM will make it primed up for higher speed. Trust this helps...

Bro./..probabaly you can try to use the R15 rear tyre....most people feel that tyre is perfect for the RTR....it is the right suitable specs too...
and the front tyre you can use the P220 front tyre...

TVS tyres suck big time on wet, and while attacking corners, their sidewalls are good for nothing, they are good for straights and city puttring, but for performance oriented riding, RTR's chasis yells for sticky compound tyres (MRF,DUNLOP).

though i've scraped the pegs using TVS tyres,( my bike still runs on them ) but they dont inspire confidence, and you have to correct your lean while staying in and coming out of it (transfer of the weight on opposite side) cuz the sidewalls just dont stick to the tarmac, and on the stage of scrapping the peg, one uses the sidewalls to the limit, and i did it to the road well known to me, and i always "examine circle" it for sand, stones before putting my knee down...

i strongly recommend you to first change the tyres (MRF) before practicin leans as you're new to it, and you'll end up kissing the road with the TVS tyres.
Thanks for the suggestion mate! It'll take time to collect money for the new set of tires ..
And you mentioned above that you put your knee-down with these stock tires..Isn't that scary?..

Even i like to do the same which is in bolds but never had scary moments..
The bike never skids unless you intend to do so..
Yup ..while practicing stoppies i had these kind of 'scary moments' as the front skids and so there's always a chance of dis balancing and falling down and you might even loose your incisors in the process..and,therefore,I am not trying stoppies anymore!

                    @Chicane..
The pic you attached are Pirelli,no?
                    Are they available in 17''..
If you ride like there's no tomorrow...worry not there won't be!

                      i would say..very very wise of u..
dont try stoppies unless u have a proper set of tyres at ur disposal...
i have never ever tried it..i brake late and hard..but never trd a stoppie..i didnt have the confidence on my tyres...so good for u not 2 try it too....
